What a cute vintage little diner!They make malts with actual malt powder and have a huge variety of different flavors of ice cream and toppings! The lady working today was very friendly and helpful and the cook did an excellent job on our quick lunches. Not one thing to complain about- food quality, service, atmosphere and pricing was all very good. They have many vintage items in store, so while we waited for our orders, looking around really made the time fly by.10/10, for sure!

This place is probably the best place to eat at in Garrison, ND. It is located on Main St in the business district. I ordered a chef's salad and a chilli dog for lunch thinking the salad would not suffice. I'm a big guy and the salad was so much that I actually had leftovers. It's was a good salad too. Had dinner here too one night - smothered burrito. This was OK. It was hot and filled me up.They have what I'm told are awesome cookies. Two people in our party tried them and were instant fans. They have some specialty ice creams which are also highly recommended,however I was too full to try them. When you get soda - you do get unlimited refills. They have a special salad bar and soup combo. I saw a few locals come in for this. I did not try it but looks like it must be a decent deal.They close at 8, but staff is accommodating and seated our party of 12 in the back of the establishment at 7:30pm even when we all had not shown up. Friendly and fast service and reasonably priced decent food.No booze here - which was not a problem for me.****1 year later*****Pork chop Wednesday special was terrific! Chicken Tortilla soup was perfect for a cold snowy winter day. The pumpkin spice cake was good too!

I went to this little shop so frequently about 8 years ago this month. I often think about the huckleberry ice cream and the amazing decor. These photos are from 8 years ago ❤️ I live far away now but I want to take a trip to bring my son one day!

Great food with a family friendly menu. The decor is very 50s soda/ice cream parlor. They ice cream for everyone, even the dog. We all got some and Chloe our Boston Terrier finished her cup first and then sad eyed our cones!

My boss and I were in town working and stopped in to the ye ole malt shoppe. Little did we know we were going to have THE BEST FOOD IN NORTH DAKOTA. I have cooked a 4 and five star restaurants through out the state. The burgers were outstanding. Made with fresh made buns. How good can a burger be. Well stop in garrison and find out. I'm going to try the walleye next

Massive staffing issue. We sat while, 21 people walked. They turned away a party of 8, then party of 5, then 3 elderly couples(3x2) walked of their own accord, then us 2. We walked. That's a lot of business loss. Harsh for Memorial day weekend.We waited painfully long for menus, our drink order to be taken... then never brought to the table, Until our food was brought out and we asked again hey could we get our drinks... my food was wrong, my husband never got silverware so he was left staring at his plate. We'd already been there for 40 minutes with our newborn and I knew she was going to get restless soon. We figured in the time it'd take to make the food we'd asked for to begin with we'd be there another hour or two... can't sit that long for horrible service. Especially with a newborn.The poor couple behind us, the girl came up to them twice and said I'll be right with you and then never came back to them to even take their drink orders. Went to front behind ice cream counter and started making ice cream, and malts for people who had just walked in while all the lunch tables sat underserved and very ignored... like we all kept looking at each other trying to be patient, finally shrugged & left. We left a $20 on table to cover our two meals one of which we never got and the other completely untouched. I've been a manager, a hostess, and a waitress. I'm patient super understanding... but this was BAD SERVICE. The dark haired girl needs to go or get some retraining. The blonde was very kind and doing her best.Seems like a great place too bad we spent an hour there and never got to try it.

We LOVE this place and recommend it to everyone we talk to. We have yet to find something on the menu we don’t love. The Monte Cristo was the best I’ve had in a long time. Taco Salad is great. Chicken fried steak is great. Hamburgers are great. Poutine, yes please. As great as their food is, the ice cream is too. Great milkshakes ( best I’ve found in the state so far), banana splits and other pastry desserts. Staff is always so nice to us and it’s super easy to order. We will always come here when we pass through.

Stopped by because we were in town for a ball game. It is an old fashioned classic Malt and Ice Cream shop that also has food as good as any diner I have eaten at. My double burger and fries were great, the bun fresh, the fries excellent, and the meat tasted really good. My son's and wife's meals were similar.We also had a chocolate malt and a hot fudge shake.The young ladies were very nice and took good care of a couple of noobs. Portions were good and I think we got really good value for our money. We will definitely find an excuse to stop by again.

We walked in, told to seat ourselves. Found a table in the back. Waited about 15 minutes for menus, 10 more minutes to order, 2 of our 4 drinks came out with our food, which was less than thrilling, after waiting 5 minutes, had to go seek out my own silverware and ketchup. No follow up or told our ticket was at the counter and we never got 2 of our drinks. I have no idea how this place has such rave reviews.

If you're passing through Garrison, this is the place to stop. Great burgers and shakes. Also love their patty melt. Great quality food in a nicely decorated small town atmospheric place.
