It was my first time at this cafe, went with my kids, and I would say it won't be my last. If I find myself in Cavalier (Pembina County) again, I will surely have a meal there. Old setting Cafe looks like a family owned restaurant.The food was great, the service was even better, and the lady was very friendly and courteous without being over patronising.The atmosphere was okay and basic, for small town maybe that's all that is needed.Customers should please stop sticking chewed bubble gums under the tables, it is bad for

This place doesnt understand what vegetarian means...or what no meat means. Ordered a bean burrito...had meat in it....drinks were weak..margarita tasted like limeade with a ton of sugar dumped in it. Food was flavorless. Service was also very slow. Got home and noticed we were overcharged.

You better be local if you want good service! We waited for 30 minutes to place our order but locals got menus and their food! Finally got our food and it was cold, dry, tasteless lasagna, and hard, inedible bread. Our drinks were warm also, no offer of ice. We waited 20 minutes for the bill. I will never recommend this place.

This is not ritz and glamor, upscale, fancy eating in a fancy setting. This is rural, comfy eating, friendly faces, and delicious. Between the OAK omelet, the pizza, and the kids menu, my family was very full and happy. Very nice waitress as well.

Only time we ever get a great meal is if the owners are cooking! Otherwise forget it. They get our order wrong dang near every time. Last time we were there as a family, we were the only ones in there. Bunch of kids working. Bunch of tables dirty. I watched as they put our plates of food up and yelled order up. And then as the waitress went for our food the cook throw something from the kitchen at her. I watched it land in one of our plates and the waitress picked it out and brought us our food. Gross. They were screaming and yelling... apparently forgetting there were customers in there (us).

Chicken fried steak was small but good as far as flavor. Teenage burger was satisfying. The waitress forgot our mango smoothie but I didn't hold that against her. She was very attentive and our food came out in a timely manner.

Staff are very friendly. They usually have good food but this time when I received my chicken strips they were very overcooked. The breading was very hard and chicken was dry. We went back the next day and as usual the food was good.

Food was good, I ordered the nacho plate to go, and it came on a paper plate with saran wrap over it, I had specifically requested salsa and sour cream and got neither. My husband ordered the special, ham dinner, and didn't get a plastic fork, or salt and pepper.However, the staff was super friendly, the wait time was short, and again, the food was good.

Awful! We walked in and nobody acknowledged us & they looked right at us, we finally got up and asked about service and menus. They brought us menus and a pitcher of pop. We again waited and waited and again got up and asked to take our order, they took it and we waited and waited some more. We saw a couple who came in after us get everything sooner than we did. Food was great! We never once got asked about our food or if we needed anything else. We paid $12 for that pop pitcher in the end 😠

Order takeout/great burgers/slow service/family friendly. Small town diner with amazing food but incredibly poor/slow service. Mushroom and Swiss burger was consistently delicious! I've visited on 6 separate occasions...food always took 30 mins to an hour no matter if there were 5 people in the entire restaurant or 20. Noticed many people eating from the salad bar and lots of to-go orders. Homemade deserts. Clean restrooms. Large menu.

Staff were awesome we were camping in the area and got in late, they were helpful and polite even though we ended up arriving near closing time, definitely would plan to eat there again when visiting the area. We all ordered burgers to avoid extra work for staff, but they were on par with the best diner burgers our family has had.

Burger, (teenager), and bacon was great! Service was also fast and friendly! If you're looking for something extra special, order the bread sticks with a side of maple syrup! Not kidding! Best thing I've had a long while.

First time ever traveling to ND. We are camping at the local park for several days. Eating a lot of hot dogs, burgers, etc... We were hot, tired and just wanted a good meal. Found Thompson's Cafe and ordered the salad, broasted chicken, with potatoes and green beans. Had apple pie too. OMG! It was perfect. Loved every bite. Please give the cook a big hug! Also, the staff and other customers were very nice. I've never commented on customers before, but they were really friendly. I'm really loving North Dakota!

Have gone there every Tues. for the chicken and pizza buffet. Last week at 6:15, they were closing early at 7:00, the cook didn't want to cook more chicken, even though the buffet went till closing. Manager comped my check. Very nice of her. This week, it was 5:15 and I asked if he was going to put out more chicken. Eventually, found out since there were only two people eating off the buffet, no. Then at 5:55, was told chicken would be ready 15 minutes. Too late. Either have a buffet or don't. Also, soups need to be seasoned. No flavor.

Can we take a moment to discuss the bacon cheeseburger pizza? If you like a real nice bottle of fine wine, or maybe even some of that fancy high dollar Pappy Van Winkle whisky, or maybe, JUST MAYBE, your an ordinary person who enjoys a good meal, ABSOLUTELY stop in! The staff rocks, the pizzas are awesome, particularly that bacon cheeseburger one! Either way, this place is in the mix like a blender!

Husband and I love the teenager burger! Good comfort food and the waitresses are nice as well as the cooks. The staff is always nice to us and we are thankful to have a restaurant to go to near home.

The service was terrible. Stopped in for lunch while in town at a client and we were barely attended to. The waitress assumed that we knew what to order and didn't read us specials. It wasn't busy at all, seemed like the big rush had finished already. When I received my garden salad it had a long black hair stuck in it. The food was inedible and the service was terrible. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Great food and good waitress staff, but owners could do alot more for the atmosphere by removing the filthy carpet and installing a tile floor, by improving the restrooms, and by improving the salad bar. Some appropriate dining music would be nice too.
