This college has a sweet amiable feel to it. I did not attend but I know someone whose daughter attended. She felt like giving up a few times but stayed the course and graduated today. (5.12.19) I am not sure if the school partners with other entities to offer summer internships but I wish she had that opportunity to do so. Beautiful campus.

Wingate has a very personable and helpful staff many of whom have been there a long time it seems . Admissions staff was first rate. But once your student is enrolled, as a parent, you will need to be persistent to stay informed so you can help your student succeed.Wingate's technology is antiquated. Difficult to do any business online as a parent. The school is paper intensive and sometimes the paper seems to fall through cracks. Wingate only recently came up with a way for tuition to be paid online. There is no parent portal yet that allows you to stay up to date with what is due when. Bills are mailed and the expectation is you mail checks or pay on site. If they have a payment plan, they do not advertise it. Most pertinent information goes through the student portal that the parent has no access to. This creates opportunities for miscommunication and missed deadlines. The school is under-staffed. If you have to phone someone to ask for help or clarification, expect to get voicemail that states you will hear back in a couple of days at least. Email is a better option but don't expect a same-day reply.Communication is not a strength here. During this last and very widespread flu season, the campus had a very big outbreak but no classes were cancelled and parents never received any communication regarding making certain your student had a flu shot.Overall, I would say the school has its heart in the right place and most professors are engaged and want to see the students succeed. Still, the school has a ways to go in developing the kind of infrastructure that justifies its tuition costs.Wingate rightly has a reputation as a collegiate Sparta, roughly one in every four students is some sort of athlete. Not necessarily a bad thing but if your student is not going to be playing a sport or chooses to leave a sport once there, be aware of what other options they have on campus to stay engaged. The student transfer rate accelerates at year two.If campus surroundings are a consideration, know that Wingate is an exceedingly small town so that the campus is basically all there is. The neighboring town of Monroe is slightly bigger with more ammenities: small mall, Walmart and fast food options. Charlotte is a short drive beyond that. Uber is not allowed on campus, we were told. So your student needs a car or friends with wheels if he or she is going to leave campus or fly out of Douglas International.Overall, Wingate has been a good experience for our student despite a bit of heavy lifting for the parents. Having proper expectations is important when choosing a college. Before you go, we wanted you to know what our experience has been.

Beautiful field and sports complex. Small town school with heart for sure. Competitive athletes with powerful personalities and coaches. Loyal fans in the stands.

My partner interviewed for a position with Wingate and was treated worse than I could have ever imagined. He got wind of the open position and reached out to send his resume. They took weeks to get back to him with each reply, and their final word to him after he sent a proposal was to say that the position wouldn’t be even part-time pay and the university wouldn’t provide support outside of his pathetic stipend. So he obviously declined. This past week, they have posted the opening for the same position with more detail, and it is an EXACT replica of the proposal he sent. No pay listed, so I’m sure they will try to swindle whoever applies. The leadership here is full of snakes, beware.

This is a great university. You can tell that the staff here for the most part cares and does all that they can to offer an affordable education in a field that will get people jobs and prosperity. The actual campus is absolutely wonderful. It is very scenic and laid out nice. There area also some very quaint older buildings.

Stopped here for lunch. There are several cafes and restaurants on campus that are open to the public for those that are looking for Chick-fil-A or sushi even a salad and wraps place. There's free parking and ample picnic tables to sit out outside and enjoy a nice lunch overlooking the college campus.

I have one child who has already graduated from here, and one child who is a current student. Small campus and teacher to student ratio is fantastic. Professors who care about their students great! Financial Aid and Business office who know what to do and how to communicate with parents. Not so hot. Parents will need to stay on top of students to find out what is going on, but the education is fantastic!

It was really nice there. Our visit was March 2020 the weekend when Covid-19 closures had just begun. Staff was friendly and helpful and still allowed a few families with potential students to tour the school. Planning to visit again this spring and possibly enroll our daughter for Fall 2021

Once a Bulldog always a Bulldog!I am completely thrilled that my one and only daughter and child will officially become a Wingate Bulldog in August 2021! Wingate University holds a special place in my heart as this is where I started my college education. I ended up transferring to complete my Nursing degree (at the time Wingate did not offer Nursing degrees) Even so, my faculty advisors and mentors steered me towards my strengths, leading me to a rewarding career in Nursing. To backtrack a little, before I started at Wingate University, one of my brothers and his now wife met at and graduated from Wingate. When I started there, I was home!

New to PT...(physical therapy) and hopeful it will aide me in my pain levels from the diabetes I struggle with every day. It's a little bit of a walk from the parking lot....no more than if you went to the mall or the Harris Teeter. But THESE students are well trained.... Congenial, courteous, and professional. Looking forward to my next appointment 😊!!! Yippppppeee!!!🎉🎉

Been here for three years and all Wingate has done is raise the price of tuition while subsequently taking away things on campus. For one, they have limited our meal exchanges for Chick-Fil-A and Freshens to only two and three exchanges per week. The caf is unlimited, but they close at 8 p.m. and have limited food options. Wingate is also planning on charging us to keep our cars on campus while raising tuition at the same time. My question is why? No one asked for the DPC to be upgraded (and it was supposed to be done in January...) so why should we have to pay for it? The freshman dorms are in serious need of upgrading and the upperclassmen apartments are manageable but not worth the money, in my opinion. Honestly, the only reason I still attend Wingate is for the music department, and that’s why I gave this review 2 stars instead of 1. There is absolutely no reason that our tuition should be raised each year, that’s ridiculous and it actually causes many athletes and other students who attend Wingate on full scholarships to have to drop out. Private colleges are supposed to be essentially all-inclusive since that’s what the high tuition prices are for, but Wingate is definitely not all-inclusive and constantly cheats us out of our money.

If this isn't the prettiest little school in the Carolinas (or beyond for that matter), that I don't know what is!? Few colleges their size are growing at the this point in time - and they are booming! Stop by on your way to the beach or when you're in the Charlotte area - now just 30 min away thanks to the new Monroe Bypass on US 74.

Wingate is Amazing! You could not ask for a better college experience, especially if your a little overwhelmed in large crowds... Wingate is the place to focus on your education, the college experience and allow your parents peace of mind.Yes, bad things happen everywhere but this is one place I always felt safe. Just small enough to not get lost, just big enough to soar to highest pinnacle.GO BULLDOGS!

The whole admissions process was a nightmare. I emailed my admissions counselor months ago and still no reply. Her name is Chelsea, hope no has her for their counselor. The admissions director has no empathy and will not call you back either. All this school wants is your money so I hope you have plenty of it, they took me out of there system because I stated I was having a hard time coming up with the balance. NO ONE helped me and 3 days later financial aid contacts me to tell me I qualify for another loan. But KELSEY in admissions didn't mind putting me out of the system, now I'm having a hard time getting back in. Unfortunately I have wasted all my time getting in this school that I'm going to finish the semester then I'm going to Western Carolina, their staff made me feel much better about the financial aid process and took care of all my questions with in 24 hours.

I attended Wingate Junior College in 1969-1971.No one from my hometown of Warrenton, NC had attended Wingate but a very sharpe girl from Ansonboro talked glowingly of this little school in Union Co.I loved Wingate from the very beginning as I moved into Cannon Dorm. I made life long friends that are always just a phone call away. It was the right fit for me.I did transfer to and graduate from Appalachian and that was anotherperfect choice for me.Wingate has made me proud.Appalachian finished what started Wingate started. I love these two schools.❤️

This school needs to improve their eating facilities and some of their teacher selection. It does not make sense for a 40,000$ a year payment to be used on Aramark, the worst food company for a cafeteria. It also doesn't make sense to build unnecessary things instead of expanding the wingate experience. The teachers here get a 7 out of 10. There is a lot of lop sided teaching technique varying from teacher to teacher in the same course. There should be a set curriculum so that teachers will actually teach or will not assign ridiculous assignments compared no assingments with another teacher. It really affects the grades among students and it is not fair.If wingate university wants to be noted as a serious school, they need to expand their connections and start creating a better environment for the students. A lot of sudents leave over the weekend, simply because there is nothing to do.Sincerely,Taylor Tarte

I was concerned about campus safety and specifically about two incidents I heard about and wanted verified. It was eventually confirmed that a female student was sexual assaulted in Cannon Residential Hall and that the culprit was sentenced to five years in prison. Additionally, two years ago three people were shot on campus leading to a campus shutdown. Two of the victims died. I note I contacted the Vice President of Student Life, Rhett Brown, about these incidents. He told me he would get back in touch with me. He never did and my messages went unanswered. I consider this quite unprofessional to be lied to and to receive no response. A proven unsafe campus and a lying administrator degrades Wingate University.
