I went there for the first time today to assess and pull a couple of dogs for Freedom German Shepherd Rescue, and had a great experience! The friendly staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable about the animals in their care, and very helpful in assisting us with the assessment and adoption process. I would highly recommend visiting the next time you are ready for a new best friend!

Adopted a beautiful little male chiweenie this past Friday and he’s already dead. 1 year old. He had parvo. They didn’t check for it. Good thing my other dog was vaccinated or she would be sick too. the paperwork was completely fudged. They had him listed as a female when he was obviously a male, all of his dates for vaccinations were all messed up and you can tell it was just thrown together. Called today to tell them what happened to the dog I adopted and to make sure they clean the facility so other animals don’t suffer the same fate… and they were not very kind nor did they seem concerned at all. Also… we’re told he didn’t have fleas… well he did… and my other dog got them as well. Spent over $1300 on this poor dog with the cost of the emergency vet just to lose him on the Fourth of July and have to bury him in my backyard. My 2 year old is traumatized. Will never adopt from here again, and I’ll tell everyone I know of this experience. Poor animals… they deserve so much better than this place

Adopted the sweetest dog Friday June 30th, he died early morning July 4th from parvo he contracted at the shelter. His adoption paperwork was done incorrectly. When we called to tell the staff that our dog had died they didn’t seem to care past a simple “sorry” and continued to post dogs for adoption with no public warning that their shelter had parvo and to watch for the symptoms. The vet we took our dog to said that by the time we adopted him it was too late to save him, and it could’ve been saved if the shelter had tested him or watched for the start of his symptoms. Not only is our daughter heartbroken and traumatized that her new puppy is gone so soon but we are all devastated at the loss and the amount that we spend on adoption fees and vet bills just to only love him for 3 days. The shelter should be testing, should monitor for these symptoms, be straight forward if animals show symptoms pre adoption, be cleaning their shelter before adopting out animals to unsuspecting families. Unfortunately situation that never should have happened.

My husband and I have been looking into adopting a dog from a shelter. We are from Wilmington so we have been looking at New Hanover and Brunswick County shelters. Everytime we see a dog we like it is gone almost instantly. Why? Because they only charge $65-75 for adoption. They keep the animals in good conditions And good health. They even get a volunteer photographer to take pictures for their Facebook. Out of curiosity I thought of checking out Columbus County to see if they had any availability pups. Columbus County shelter is seriously failing and it is evident why. They are charging $125 for adoption and half of the pictures of the dogs are through a chain link fence. They have 23 available dogs! It's just sad.

Have tried calling before in the case of a dog I found in my backyard who was unable to walk. Waited hours and before his condition worsened, I drove him to the animal shelter myself. The guy who I had spoken to showed up 8 hours later asking where the dog was.Today, I was out in my yard with my dog (who I had let out about 2 minutes prior) and a man in the animal control truck pulled up, told me he was looking for my dog and that someone had called complaining about two dogs running around that were "big and brown." I told him it wasn't my dog since he was just inside and this person didn't seem to believe me? Not really sure what the deal was but this is the 2nd time I've had a negative experience with this group. Also - this is ZERO reflection on the Columbus County animal shelter who continues to do an impressive job.

I have had my dog for 6 year and they came and got him with me called a 100 times about the dogs on my road a man has 42 dogs but did they get them know ,they took my dog I guess because he is so friendly that he just jump right in there truck . Knowing that they have seen my dog a 100 times when they pulled in my driveway to ask about outher dogs I really do not appreciate it.

Months later, David and Jenelle Eason’s animals not only haven’t been removed but they have gotten more dogs. You’re asking people to stop calling and reporting them because “that’s not animal controls job”- BUT ACTUALLY YES IT IS. You guys might be fooling people who haven’t done rescue but I’m familiar with how things work. Someone over there isn’t doing their job. Normal non-reality tv people would’ve had *every single* animal seized including livestock. Shameful.

I have nothing but praise and admiration for the job of Candice and the staff at CCAS. I represent a 501c3 national breed specific rescue and have worked closely over the last 5 years with CCAS and Candice and the staff. They have always answered any questions, found out additional information if requested, assisted in ways large and small to help move animals in need to a better situation. I wish all shelters and shelter staff were as accommodating. Every effort is made to see that the best result is achieved in the interest of the animals. Well done and good on ya!

they have VERY poor service. They DONT care about animals, so I don’t know why they are an animal control service… Found a stray dog on the road, and waited for 30 minutes just for them to tell us, they are “maxed out”. They are repulsive liars.

I thought animal control was supposed to protect and help animals. I guess they’re afraid of everything so the law doesn’t apply and they allow beating and murdering of innocent animals AND they allow you to keep more after beating and murdering other ones!Section 3. Cruelty to Animals.A. It shall be unlawful for any person to molest, torture, torment, deprive of necessary sustenance, cruelly beat, needlessly mutilate or kill, wound, injure, poison, abandon or subject to conditions detrimental to its health or general welfare any animal, or to cause or procure such action. The words "torture" and "torment" shall be held to include every act, omission or neglect whereby unjustifiable physical pain, suffering or death is construed to prohibit lawful taking of animals under the jurisdiction and regulation of the Animal Control officers or persons duly authorized by the County Commissioners or Veterinarians from destroying dangerous, unwanted, or injured animals in scientific research.

This isn't a review but a response to two comments about David Eason. Turns out he thought it would be funny to put that out ther he killed the dog to gain more attention for Jenelle. Turns out it was a hoax

Use to love volunteering there , then they stopped putting the the information on the dogs cages , so Keith nothing on the cage I took a mixed pitbull for a walk , I played with him for about fifteen minutes he was really sweet loving , and one of the workers came out to the yard and said wow you took spirit out , I said yea there was nothing on his cage then he said he might take your arm off when you put him back iin the cage , then instead of helping me he dissapeared when he should have went and got the animal control officer to help me , I thought I better put him back inside , he went right in the cage no problem , but when I took the leash off of him he attacked me and bit my finger off ! I took it up to the emergency room but it was to chewed up to to reconnect it , so am missing half a finger the emergency room was a joke they just gave me a term is shot and wrapped it up and gave me a surgeon's number to call the next day , so I called the next day and they couldn't do it and gave me another number which turned out to be the emergency room again , then after talking to 5 different nursed they told me to come back to the emergency room ,I chose a different hospital they didn't do anything either and wrapped it up a little better and gave me a number to call it was a different surgeon I called and got the first appointment available which was Tuesday ,4 days later because everything was closed sat sun and Mon was Martin Luther king day , so I went Tuesday and the woman there at the shelter shippman had already refused to help me at all with any hospital bills and the Secretary said that they didn't accept my Medicare ,so I got sent home again from third doctor with instructions to kkeep cleaning and soaking it so now I have half a finger that never hot stitched up or any help at all except anti niotics ,so now I guess I gotta get JOE PESCE my cousin vinmy , to help me with the goood old boy system that I will be suing

I have called several times to report a dog of a neighbor that barks at us . And has chased my child. We have to leave a message every time we call and no one ever calls us back!

Very friendly and prompt. It's not an easy thing to go to but I had to surrender a dog that I found yesterday. She's going to be adopted by a loving family.

Waiting to see if they can do something about David Eason - Dog Killer Dave. Hope they look into this serious incident within their territory. Sad and sick!
