This is a review more so for the food truck located across the street from Ashe County Cheese assuming the two are connected.We stopped by this foodtruck last week and got 2 BLTs and a Grilled Bologna & Gouda. My husband is always teasing me for not having tried bologna despite my "bougie, well traveled food pallete" as he says. For this reason, I got the latter. Oh. My. Gracious. This was so amazing. And no, I don't mean for the bologna, though that was good too. The crust was toasted to perfection, the size was huge but handling appropriate without being messy, good quality bread, it was all fresh... but that gouda. My goodness I have tried alot of grilled cheese joints back when they were trending in FL preCovid, but this took the cake. And I blame it all on that cheese. It was the PERFECT consistency! I only have met one other person that could reach this level of perfection this place did in the world of grilled cheese, and that was my best friend whom tragically removed himself from this world last year taking with him all the secrets to the world most perfect grilled cheese. I haven't ate a grilled cheese since. I can't say this beats his, but if he was still alive, this would be a hard tie almost and I think he would consider it excusable that this is the one that broke my grievance fast.The ladies working behind the counter were very friendly with a good sense of humour. Food was processed fast and tasted like it was fresh off the griddle as it should. Prices were very fair and everything was very clean. It was a bummer we missed the tour across the street, but eating here had us get over it real quick!

Best food truck EVER! The loaded pork belly fries are to die for and the quesadillas are better than I’ve ate anywhere. Definitely will be coming back by!

The experience here was very nice. There is a viewing room where you can watch them make cheese. There is a food truck where you can order food with their cheese. Also, they have a shop where you can buy all (and sample some) of their cheese along with some other items and souvenirs. The shop was really busy when I visited.

Very quaint little town West Jefferson is. Our pastor, Andy Clapp wrote a book entitled "Midnight Christmas Eve" with that town being the backdrop of The story! Everyone should read that excellent excellent book! Great little town to visit with lots of sites to see.

Review is for the store. I was super impressed with this place! So much good cheese, for a very affordable cost. The cheese you buy here sells for easily double the price in other parts of NC. Their other goods I think are the real deal -- bought some canned bread and butter pickles (10/10), and some pimento cheese (tasted exactly like a Southern grandma had made it). Very pleasantly surprised!!

The absolute best butter on earth. Reminds me of homemade on the farm butter churned with my great grandmother. The cheddar cheese is competitively priced and has a much richer flavor. The store is fun to shop with a wide variety of non-dairy items including picked peaches, apple butter, crackers and wine. Definitely worth a trip to visit the store! However, if you can’t get there, you can still enjoy the bounty. They ship everywhere.

We drove from Boone to Ashe county cheese store which was about 35min drive ,thru beautiful scenery.Store is located in little small town on the corner of Main Street .Across the store is a factory where they making cheese,factory was close that day but we were able to see a video of cheese production (it’s about 7min long)on a tv inside the factory .Store is very clean,they have cheese area ,candy area ,wine area ,fudge area ,little gift area.Staff was amazing ,helpful .Prices are very reasonable .And the cheese is AMAZING !!! Especially I would recommend Mango fire cheese.

If you like cheese like I do then if ever in West Jefferson, NC you have to go by the Ashe County Cheese Factory.Located in downtown West Jefferson at 106 E Main St, West Jefferson, NC 28694, the cheese factory is North Carolina's oldest cheese plant, producing quality cheese since 1930.In addition to the actual factory that you can tour and see how cheese is made, they have a store which sells the over 20 varieties of original cheese they make as well as county butter, homemade fudge and fresh cheese curd. They also offer locally made wines and a variety of gifts, souvenirs and old fashioned snacks and candies.

Such a quaint place. The cow milk tanks are so cute. The cheese is fantastic too. I got some hoop cheese to take home. The shop sells all sorts of cheeses, candies, ice cream. I wish we could have seen the cheese making, but that part wasn't open for tours on the day we went.

Cute cheese/dairy shop with cheese flavors that I haven’t tried before, but I am excited to! They also have wine, candy, kids toys, ice cream, and recently they got a wall of vinyl stickers, which are SO cute! I was disappointed that they didn’t have pimento cheese, but you can’t have everything 😂

Definitely a must visit for Ashe county. Soft serve ice cream is great & try the cheese curds aka "squeaky cheese". All the products are great quality.

You can't get any fresher than this! What a jem! Went to the food truck across the street, open for lunch 11am-3pm. Great sandwiches on big slices of fresh sourdough. The melted Gouda cheese is to die for.

Very cool local cheese maker and shop. Stop-by the viewing room to watch them make cheese. We love trying unique varieties you can’t find at a grocery store like habanero pepper Jack or seven year aged cheddar.

Ashe County Cheese is a wonderful local institution.We visited on a Monday, stopping to view the cheese making process and then browsing their store. The trip was very informative and the store was wonderful. I loved the variety of cheese and the local nature of their products.If you are in the area, a stop here in downtown West Jefferson is a must.

My family decided to come here based on other people's recommendations. We were not disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here.From my experience, I saw that the shop was very clean and looked well sanitized. It looked well organized, and they have excellent customer service. I had bought candy there that you dont normally see in grocery stores and the candy was great. The cheese we bought tasted delicious and the ice cream they offer is made from their butter.Across from Ashe Cheese was a food truck that was a part of the cheese shop and they make the BEST grilled.cheese sandwiches that I have ever eaten, the cheese was fresh, hot and the bread was grilled, perfectly golden brown. The customer service all around was just great and it's totally family friendly. I definitely would come back. I recommend Ashe Cheese, I promise you won't be disappointed. I'm gonna give Ashe Cheese a 5 star rating.

We were last here 5 years ago, and we remembered that we enjoyed their delicious snacks and cheeses so much that we took a 40 minute detour to get there again on our trip today. It did not disappoint! We got treats and snacks and cheeses and we're so glad we made the stop

Definitely a place to stop when in West Jefferson! They have a viewing room where you can watch them make the cheese. Across the street is a shop with lots of yummy goodies, including ice cream and fudge! The food truck had amazing food that was served up quickly and was very reasonably priced! The fried cheese curds were so delicious 😋!

What a beautiful town. These people are so sweet and polite. Everyone knew everyone. They knew we were not from the area. I was wearing a Panthers scarf and it gave us away. No one wears Panthers stuff there. Lol. The shops were like a blast from the past. Ashe County Cheese was just unforgettable. The food, the cheese, the so many things they had to purchase was awesome. We bought quite a lot, but the prices were very reasonable. The buildings were very well reserved and so much happiness was all around us. Felt like we were in a Hallmark movie. Had never visited Downtown Jefferson, but looking forward to going back next year.

Wonderful place to visit. We have been there twice. We haven’t seen cheese making yet though. They make cheese on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am until 2:00 pm. Of course the cheese is delicious and they have a store that sells their cheeses as well as others. If you are ever in West Jefferson, make plans to check it out.

My family loves this place. The fresh cheese and butter is exceptional. The staff are always helpful and kind. We go everytime we are in the area. They also have jellies, jams, pickled items, crackers and wine. There is even an area of different candies for kids!

Fun shop! They had their cheese, plus other cheeses. No butter today, though. There was also a candy area. Really good turtle candies and raspberry chocolates. The cheese factory viewing room across the street was fun, too.

My husband and I visited West Jefferson for the first time last summer and really enjoyed stopping into Ashe County Cheese. The store is beautiful and there are so many selections of cheese as well as butter and many other goodies.

Of course, we always stop to shop at the “Cheese Store”, then go to one of the many restaurants for lunch. But today, I saw this new “Ash County Food Truck” across the street. In case you don’t know it (since Covid) food trucks have become very popular and safe to places to eat.The choices on the menu board out front was tempting and the price are a lot more affordable than other nearby spots. They also have (for just $5.00) grilled cheese & fries for kids. We went with a Grill Cheese and a BLT. Both were outstanding, and very oversized. We could only eat half of each sandwich.But the BLT just went to the top of my “Most Favorite” list of sandwiches to die for.Can’t wait to come back again.
