Just took our 3rd trip out with Shack and Bo and each one has been better than the last. We might not caught our target fish this trip (but hey that’s why it’s called fishing and not catching, and they’ve been able to get us on the fish both previous trip)Even with the fish not biting they made sure to give us the best trip possible by switching gears to whale and spinner shark watching and got the new comers this trip hooked. They were also very accommodating when it came to having to push due to weather. They were willing to take us on a Sunday (they don’t normally fish on Sunday) instead of rescheduling for a later date which would’ve been difficult as we were coming in from out of state and wouldn’t of been able to reschedule our stay. We’ll definitely be back next year!!

Capt Shack and Bo know their stuff! At one point the fish were literally jumping into the boat and we didn’t have enough people to grab the rods! I have had notoriously had bad luck fishing on my own but I feel my luck has changed! It was a wonderful experience and beautiful boat! Very friendly captain and crew who make you and guests feel welcome ( we had two small kids and they had a blast)! Will do again! We caught 41 mahi! Five star and don’t hesitate- book now!

Booked a trip on 08 AUG. Original trip was on Monday during a hurricane. Shack accommodated us for Friday. We left the dock at about 245 and returned at about 630. Great time with some of my family. Britton (Shack) was awesome, as was Bo the First mate. We caught 12 fish in under 4 hours. The fish, ribbonfish, were delicious fried and baked.

Just had my 50th birthday with my guys. Awesome trip. We stayed in a Bunk house on the Captains property and it was surreal. Surrounded by horses and the night sky. My buddies loved it. The fishing was fantastic and the mate ensured everyone was attended to-I have fished on myriad charters through the years, but this was special. CPT Shack is better than advertised. He made our trip one we will never forget. THANK YOU CAP!

If you want to have a great time on the water and have a chance to find some fish, I recommend the Doghouse . I recommend the Doghouse for several reasons. Capt. Shack and First Mate Cain are professional and will do everything in their power to find the fish. They also make your fill like one of the family. The two times I chartered the Doghouse we found fish it was not easy but they keep looking and we had our lines go tight and as you see we came back with fish. Even my non fishing wife (Sol) who was just along for the boat ride reeled in a few Mahi. The trip that we caught Tuna was extra special since I was able to take my Son and Daughter and Son-in-law out. My son-in-law is not a person that has done a lot of fishing but he caught his self a 113 lb Big Eye tuna and Capt Shack and Cain Coached him and the rest of us on how we could help. The young man will never forget that trip. I have also used Capt Shack's son Austin to do some sound fishing. Also have had the pleasure of deal with his daughter Ginger on the phone to book the trips and everyone is always willing to help and go out of there way for you.So if you are looking for a great time on the water with a chance of catching fish (remember that is why they call it fishing because you never know what will happen) then I give the Doghouse Five stars because Capt Shack and Cain are true professionals at what they do.Thank you for the great memories,The Hepner Gang

This was my second trip on the doghouse. Captain Shackelford is a great boat captain and will try his hardest to put fish in the box and make sure you come home with something. He also has a wounderful first mate that does great work in helping put the fish in the box keeping the bait fresh on the hooks and keeping good conversation waiting for the fish to strike.

We've fished twice in 2020 with the talented captain and mate plus many past trips. Each trip I learn something new and catch fish! We usually go with 6-8 men for a day of fishing and the Doghouse provides a cabin w/ a/c for relaxing between catching fish. This year Captain Shackelford and Bo (mate) got us catching tuna from flying fish lures suspended from a kite, dolphin, billfish, sheapshead, and more! For years friends had been trying to get me to fish on the Doghouse and I'm glad I finally did. Every time I go, I'm amazed by the number of rods, reals, and lures Bo keeps handy for different species, conditions and skill levels. We used light tackle and heavy rods plus everything in between over the years. I've been on company trips where teens were along and they had a blast catching fish! I'm looking forward to taking our grandchildren out! You'll not find a more knowledgeable Captain than Britton nor one who gets more excited when you're catching fish. If you've never fished before or fished for a lifetime, treat yourself to a charter with Captain Britton on the Doghouse. I'm looking forward to my next trip!

My wife and I chartered the Doghouse on 5/21. It’s been a dream of my daughter to go off shore fishing. She loved the fact of how gracious Britt was. He sent doghouse decals to her after they sold they’re car and forgot to remove them. The process was seamless. We ordered the awesome Doghouse shirts and surprised the kids at Christmas with a poem eluding to the fact that we were heading out to sea . Six family members went. What a awesome experience. The sunrise as we headed, and just to experience Gods awesome creation. We were on the fish in no time. At one point we had 5 lines tight. We caught 15 yellow fin tuna. What a day we will never forget. Larry the first mate was on his game giving us instructions on how to get them in the boat. Thanks so much. Psalm 69:34

Changed our trip from offshore to inshore on advice from the captain because of the weather, Captain Britt Shackleford’s experience saved us from a miserable day offshore, gave us an incredible day inshore with Bo as first mate and we slayed the fish!!! Already made reservations for next year, highly recommend a trip with these guys and always defer to their wisdom. Thank you and see you next year, if not before.

I have been fishing with Britton for the past fifteen years. My crew of friends have had countless limits and truly fish of a lifetime.....have you ever had someone ask that the reason you didn't come home with fish was because they where too big.....I have. Great trip with Shack and Beau! Went offshore and limited on Tilefish! Majority of our Boat were kids and they had a blast being coached by the Captain and first mate. Trolled for Tuna and Mahi but the bite wasn't on. I've been out several times with the Doghouse and have always enjoyed it. Fishing isn't always guaranteed, it's a sport and it's about the experience and the memory. If you want guaranteed fish, and the memory isn't important, buy local fish at a fish market. If you want a great experience and a lifetime of memories with your kids, book with Shack and the Doghouse!

We have been out on the Doghouse for the last 2 summers. Captain Shackelford is a top notch Captain with a 1st class first mate. We caught a boatload of fish both years as well as having the privilege. Captain Shackelford is a knowledgeable Captain as well as a personable kind and caring man. We are already planning our next trip and this will be making this an annual trip at minimum. Can't wait to go back and do it all over again!!

I’ve fished the Doghouse on two different occasions, the Alice Kelly woman’s tournament and my son’s evening birthday party.First, there is such a focus on safety by both the Captain and the Mate and I felt like they were looking out for us at all times!I’d heard for years of the sunrise blessing of the fleet once they got out of the Inlet and it was amazing to be part of that as our Captain was the one offering the prayer. As someone who works inside of a four-walled office, I can only imagine how it must be to have that ocean as your “office”. But I digress ...Captain was always concerned about making sure he was doing everything possible to “put us in the fish”. Along the way, we relaxed and enjoyed the sites of pilot whales, offshore birds, the unbelievable water, watching a Mahi Mahi chase another fish and more. Capt. Britt is a wealth of knowledge about the local geography, the fishing in general, the birds and other fish and mammals that you might see.My son and his friends had a ball on their trip - they thought it was “so cool” going under the bridge at Oregon Inlet and trolling for fish while we were still in sight of the coastline. They loved learning about the types of fish they might catch and that we were looking for.I know Capt Britt and his crew aim to please and I’ve sent many friends on the Doghouse over the years and their messages are so similar to mine (except the fish part).

Went Tuna fishing on the Dog House today with my son it was the first time either of us have been offshore couldn’t have asked for a better time we landed 2 huge monsters a little bummed they were to big to keep but that’s not their fault. The boat was awesome 61ft of fishing luxury. Captain and mate were first class all the way we will be coming back in April

The Website is misleading for the amount of fishing time! Says leave the dock at 4:30 am, we left at 5:30 am and we were back at the dock by 2:00. The experience was very rushed! His website says his trips are 10-12 hours for a full day. Although the Captain did not know it we had a GPS on board which showed we never reached the fishing grounds. The air conditioning didn’t work, the lights didn’t work and he was in a hurry to get back to take his evening trip. We definitely did not get our money’s worth of fishing. Captain Shack and mate are nice guys but if you want to catch Tuna go with someone else!

We would not recommend the afternoon trip.There was 7 of us on the trip. We were told by Rachel that we would receive a text the day prior to the charter from the captain regarding the trip, but we received any communication. The day of the charter poor weather conditions were predicted so we called Rachel just after 12:00PM to check on the details and confirm trip was still a go. Rachel apologized for the caption not texting and told us everything was still a go. She called back a few minutes later and instructed us to be at the dock an hour early due to some squalls forecasted. The afternoon trip was originally scheduled to depart at 3:00PM, but was moved up to 2:00PM. We were on the dock by 1:45PM. It was after 2:30PM before left the dock. The captain had a long chat in the cabin with 2 gentlemen from the offshore trip that just came back in.Once on the boat we were directed into the cabin where the air was barely working. The captain told us the generator got hot on the way in and was working to catch up (it never really did). Once in the cabin we took the blunt of the blow from the issues with the previous charter, with the captain telling us the trip “was not a restaurant”...meaning you get what you get...his tone and demeanor was rude at best. The issues from the previous charter had clearly carried over and we were now catching his frustration.When we made it out the first mate dropped 3 lines for Ribbon fish (there was 7 of us). After about an hour he dropped another line for Spanish. We then trolled with those 4 lines in the water for about another hour. We caught 2 small Ribbon fish and a undersized Cobia.Due to weathers issues we then headed back to the dock and arrived back just after 6:00PM. Once on the dock the captain came and telling us how much we owed him. No thanks for coming, sorry about the weather, that’s fishing...just how much we owed him. He did give us a Veteran‘a discount.Very disappointed with the charter and the attitude of the captain.The boat is larger and can accommodate several people, but with only a few lines in the water there is a good chance with a larger party you will have people that will not even touch a pole. Don’t be sucked in the by the “Wicked Tuna” ad, it means nothing.This is our last go around with a charter like this. Going forward we plan to rent a pontoon and fish the inter coastal on our own. We can’t do any worse and we will have much more fun for a fraction of the cost.

Had a great full day trip with Doghouse. Clearly knowledgeable captain and mate. Were amongst other boats but still could see fish jumping nearby and Captain Britton put us on that school and hooked up in no time on two different instances. Walked away with over 250 lbs of filet on the second day everyone was allowed back on that water. Couldn't ask for anything more from a captain and mate.

Spent the day with some Friends, old and new. Cpt Shackelford and his 1st Mate Beau not only made sure we caught enough fish to keep us happy but the variety was AWESOME!!! The weather was fantastic and the ocean cooperated in making this one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had in my life!!! Thank you to my New Friend and Brother, Jim Dickerson and my Brother Marc for helping make this such a memorable day!!! Cpt Shackelford.. If you are looking for a top notch fishing or duck hunting adventure look no further! I've known Shack personally for a number of years now and have both fished and hunted with him and his posse a bunch of times. He is a very personable guy and that goes a long way with me. I cant guarantee a dock full of tasty fish or a bag limit of ducks, because its called fishing and hunting...not catching and killing. But I will guarantee you will be in the best position for it to happen! Thanks for the years of great trips and even greater friendship!

They have a duck hunting company under this outfit as well, called OBX Waterfowlers. They took us out in unsafe and unfit conditions after telling us the wind was not a factor and that they won’t allow us to cancel. Then told us the wind was too bad for ducks. What a JOKE. We are longtime duck hunters, and also not stupid; the conditions were horrible and it should have been a cancelled trip. They were just there to collect our money. Tried to convince us sea ducks and buffleheads are great to eat…wish we could’ve shot some. Lol. You’re better off duck hunting anywhere else…miserable. Walk in to a public area, cheaper and better results. Oh! And they shoved us in a over packed blind with another group AND didn’t provide breakfast like they promised! Frikin Joke!

DO NOT go on the evening half day trip. They tossed 4 artificial rigs in the water and trolled the same channel of water for 3 hours. We had 15 people on our boat who paid to sit and watch the poles do nothing. We caught one small fish. What a joke. Even if each person on our boat had caught one fish, it still would have been a colassal waste of time and money.
