The stores off the main highway in shelby and few people know it’s there but the regulars love it. They rave about this store at any chance they get and constantly recommend it to their friends and other pet owners. Personally, I love this shop. Eric is a great owner and can order any thing the store doesn’t have in stock for you or just tell you any information you could ever possibly need to know. The fish section is large with a huge variation of freshwater and saltwater fish along with all kinds of supplies and tanks for sell. There’s usually a polite, talkative young man in the fish section talking to fish and customers alike about all sorts of things. He’s usually doing water changes, cleaning tanks, getting customers fishies and talking your head off about the fish. Two girls are always up front ready to help you get any pet you desire, tell you all the information they know about them, and get you all the supplies you need for your new furry (or scaly) friend! They usually bring their dogs to work with them too so the dogs are always ready to greet you with a happy bark and love being petted! Kai is just the cutest! And the reptile section is usually packed with an assortment of snakes and lizards with two girls (sometimes one) back there cleaning tanks and fawning over the cute animals. They handle the snakes and lizards regularly so the most inexperienced kid could giddily handle a snake and the most experienced reptile owner can enjoy their personalities that really shine through because they’re all so tame. The girls can tell you just about any information you could ever want to know about all the reptiles and will let you hold and play with just about anything back there. They also let you watch the snakes eat and I love that. One of them even force fed my snake for me because he hadn’t ate in a few months and I was worried! The store sells live rats and mice for reptile owners and also has the cutest variety of hamsters, gerbils and other small animals! Overall a really great place and I can’t stand to see the bad reviews this place gets because they don’t deserve them.

Went here looking at bearded dragons and one look around at the conditions I was more concerned for the animals than anything. This place really needs to improve and get with the program. No water, dead bugs in the displays and algae growing is ridiculous. Some of the reptiles had stuck shed also. They offer no live guarantee after purchasing and I have no confidence that anything I would buy from them would live. This may be a harsh review but it is definitely needed. I can only hope it encourages them to do better.

We always go here for any pets needs! They're knowledgeable, fair and their animals and fish will outlast a Petsmart choice by far. They really take care of their fish and offer a wide variety of pets and pet supplies, everything from Nemo to snakes to birds! If you've never been you're missing out!!

I've been visiting this pet store for years. It looks a little rough in appearance because it's in an old building, but it's awesome! They have a huge variety of supplies, as well as pets of all types. On our last visit, we saw at least two dozen healthy reptiles and amphibians, as well as several birds, a pair of ferrets, and tons of rabbits, Guinea pigs, and rodents.I don't personally have any aquariums, but this is THE place to go if you do. Soooo many fish, eels, corals, and other water critters!!! It's a great place to wander around and shop!

I don't even know how this place is in business. I didn't see a single clean cage or aquarium, there were dead fish floating with the live ones, their water was disgusting. There were several animals packed into tiny containers with one food and one water bowl and they were fighting over, to the point they were bleeding. Bird cages were nasty and had layers caked to the bottom. I feel sorry for the animals there. None of them behave as they should, probably due to sickness. It's absolutely sad. I don't know how you could own or even just work here and care that little about living creatures. It's pitiful. If your employees have time to stand around and play on their phones they have time to clean aquariums and cages. Do better or close your doors and find something you will put actual care into.

It's a bin store now and it's very clean. No broken items in the bins like you would find in a lot of stores like this. Got some great deals as well.

They have a good selection of fish. Its likely not them but the suppliers they use causing their biggest problem, sick fish. Though the girls working don't seem to care much more than the necessary feed and change water routine, they may not know anything more. If you get fish here appropriately medicate under two week quarantine for salt water. For fresh water if the fish is tolerant to salt a two week quarantine in a tablespoon aquarium salt per two gallons should bring its health around. See hendersonville for a well done fish store.

Some really cool selections of animals and marine aquarium invertebrates. Unfortunately, the store is not kept up well. Very dark, a lot of old stock, drafty and cold when we were there. Sad to see some really high priced parrots and birds in such poor conditions (no lighting for them, cold drafts).Tanks in some poor condition, algae ridden, dark, too low in height to comfortably observe. I have worked in a large store which was mainly freshwater and marine aquariums and we maintained pristine tanks to do right by our customers and our tank inhabitants, so maybe my standards are higher than normal. The setup, presentation, cleanliness here has a lot to be improved upon, however. Hopefully this place can improve. Nice to see a local fish store, not many around today... but you have to be a step above to standout and stay afloat above the big box stores.

Really nice people work here! Always helpful when I go in looking for stuff. Feel some things are a little much over priced, but at same time you get that pretty much at all pet supply stores..LOVE his variety in fish!! Always has some cool ones there 2 check out!!

I used to shop here regularly due to the friendly and helpful staff. However I have found that any animal that I have purchased from here was sick at the time I got it and it has died shortly after. I like to look at the animals but I have stopped this completely because it breaks my heart to see the dead animals in their cases waiting to be sold. It is a game for my fiance to go see how many dead animals he find while I wait for my feeder fish. However in the recent weeks even my feeder fish have been sick and contaminated with something and it is making my turtle who eats them sick as well. If you are an animal lover I do not suggest buying any at all from this store. With that being said you can find some starter kits and supplies that you may need but they are all very very overpriced.

This place means well, but their husbandry is seriously lacking.Fish/Coral: many tanks need topping off with freshwater, some pumps are evening running dry. Many of the saltwater tanks are in desperate needs of a “clean up crew” (hobbyists know this to be snails). Power heads have lost suction from the walls. Little or no flow in most coral tanks (corals thrive on flow).Rabbits/Small Mammals: not much space to run around in a 36” Long tank, water bottles need more stability. The bedding DID look fresh from a glance, so that’s good news.Reptiles: snakes have no humidity retention & have stuck on sheds, spiders in tiny enclosures, geckos same with humiditySmall rodents: very few containers of mice labeled correctly, no exercise wheels to burn extra energy, food is sprinkled among bedding & not away from feces.There is previously used equipment along all around the store, unmarked. Trip hazard & annoying cuz i don’t know if it’s for sale or what it even is sometimes. At one visit i saw 4-5 aquarium rocks on the floor in a row no tags & no stickers.The staff are nice to everyone & they generally seem to care. But either they are understaffed or they just don’t care enough about their animals.I’ve personally talked to the owner & he’s definitely not a mean guy and his staff are friendly.

DON’T BUY from these guys HORRIBLE people! Bad business! I am force to rate them with one star, there are no other options. Don’t waste your time and hood earned money at fins and critters they give everyone a bad name!!’We just lost my dad. Thought it would be nice for mom to have birds. We went and picked out. Bought two said if we had issues we could return. Tried for 2 days but moms 18 yr old dog was terrified of them! We called second day could not reach owner when we did mother would say daughter is owner not there and if daughter she said mother not there. After several calls I explained that the did was terrified of pets. She wouldn’t come out of her room or eat. That we wanted to return but intended to get birds when dog passed. We were keeping all the accessories and cage. We were told they do not take live animals back and that they just orderD new birds and there was no room. Told her what was said and just repeat line before. I told her no where in the store is there a return policy and she hung up on me and refused to come to phone when I called back! We have made every attempt to discuss it with them to no resolve. We called 2 days from purchase!!! These are horrible people to work with! Mom lives in Lawton I live in Fl. I just want to return birds.

Fins and critters looks really terrible on the outside. But on the inside it's mostly a fish tank area and guinea pigs and I really wish for it being called fins and critters they would have more live bugs for feeding They only have mealworms and crickets. I have three small jumping spiders and I would love for them to carry something like flies or anything like that. But the inside is well taken care of and the people are very nice.

Staff is very helpful, take my water there to get checked for saltwater tank for free, I'm surprised that the fish are alive, but I am working to get the levels back to normal. Great selection on fish, reasonable prices. Very few family owned shops around, I go here instead of Wal Mart. Highly Recommended.

I love going to Find n Critters. I go there for ALL my pet needs, and believe me, I have slot of pets! Sue is extremely knowledgeable. If she's not sure about something, she's open about it. No lies like some places try to pull off. I mean, come on, no one can know everything. But she knows quite a bit about her animals and how to care for them. I always try to go to her. That's not to say that the manager isn't cool. He's also very pleasant and helpful. I just personally prefer sue only because that's who I have mainly delt with for years. I would recommend Find n Critters to everyone for any and all of your pet needs, or if your in the market for a new pet.

Left worried about the animals they have. The aquariums are filthy, the bird cages are filthy, the fish looked sick, some had fin rot, they had puppies in store and they looked sick and not well cared for, overall this place should be shut down if they don't care about the animals. It was just a bunch of teenagers who couldn't be bothered to worry about these poor creatures. There were also nails in the parking lot as well as trash.

Fins & Critters is a great pet store, whether you are looking for a new pet, or pet supplies. They offer a wide selection of salt water and fresh water fish & critters. They also have a nice selection of small indoor pets. Awesome management & staff. Very knowledgeable about the pets & products that they sell!

Fish tanks are always dirty, the filters look like they haven’t been cleaned or replaced in years. They had several rabbits shoved into one tank with no hides, toys, etc. and same with the other small animals. I was the only person wearing a face mask last time, no employees or other customers were wearing one. Yeah they have a good selection of pets but they are not well taken care of and they don’t care about customer safety either.

Ok normally i love this place but im pretty ticked first off they are extremely proud of their reptile supplies way over priced.. I purchased a 40 gal heat pad out of desperation after mine went out. get in the car and it missing the spacers i call back to return they offered to swap it or give me store credit the didnt have another heat pad the size i needed and store credit was kind of useless so if you want to return anything i wouldnt bother....wont be going back for reptile supplies but the fish are nice...

Excellent Store great staff especially Sue and Eric. They really know their stuff. I have fish and Birds and this is by far the best place to get my supplies and my fish. Their prices are as cheap as Petsmart and they are a local small business. I can not recommend them enough.

If it were possible to give less stars, I would. Especially after seeing the condition their animals are in.- A baby ferret struggling to reach its water bottle which was way to high.- bird cages layered in thick layers of feces and feed.- rusty rodent enclosures where many were wounded and fighting for food and water. Their Aspen was yellow and soaked from urine, and covered in feces.- water bowls that were colored from not being cleaned.- baby bearded dragons were not active at all, and barely reacted to our presence. They had both dead and live crickets that they weren't even chasing.- a large bearded dragon that seemed lifeless at first. We tapped on the glass because we thought it wasn't breathing at first, and it slowly opened its eyes.I'll attempt to post pictures if I can.

We love this store. We drive 35 minutes out of town to go here because it's clean and doesn't smell awful like most animal stores.
