Y'all this sausage...is amazing! Grabbed some frozen to make later and it is some of the best sausage I have had since my grandfather made our sausage. Girl keep that tradition going, it is a lost art and your sausage is amazing! Your grandparents would be so proud. Don't sleep on this! If your in the area get some to bring home for sure! 👏👏❤️

Wasn't able to eat here but they had a wide variety of gifts and food in North Carolina's oldest grocery store! Definitely a must visit while in Saluda. Try their local honey..it's one of the best I've had!

Ever since they made Sam leave, the place has gone downhill. They don't have anywhere near the amount of products they used to. Hardly any produce. They only have one brand of bottled water and hardly any in stock. Even their meat selection has dwindled. You're better off going to Dollar General or even BP.

The Historic Thompson's Store is a staple of the Saluda, NC community. This amazing and quaint grocery store offers a great shopping experience with a small-town/local community feel. The store is the oldest/longest operating grocery store in the whole state of North Carolina. This is and always has been a excellent family owned business. The store has a plethora of grocery items that includes produce/local produce, refrigerated goods, frozen goods, alcoholic beverages (local/regional and otherwise), some household items, merchandise, and a nice deli with their own slicer in house. The staff is extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful. This place was such a treat and so conveniently located in downtown/one main street Saluda, NC that it will certainly serve as my main grocery store location and experience for years to come. Ward's Grill which is an excellent attached dining experience has closed indefinitely due to covid-19/the pandemic. Here is hoping it reopens as things normalize. There are baskets but no carts, although carts would not be practical/necessary. I've had an enjoyable experience with every visit. I highly recommend this grocery store to anyone in the area local or visitor!

Absolutely love this general store in quaint downtown Saluda! Friendly people too, also had a wonderful Baloney Sandwixh with hush puppies at Wards Grill which is attached to it!

Thompson's Grocery Market & Grill is a very interesting place. It's takes you back to a wonderful place in time. My wife and myself enjoyed the conversation with the people working here. They took the time to make us feel appreciated, just for stopping in. How could you not want to enjoy a bite to eat in an atmosphere like this place has? There are so many reasons to love this place. I encourage you to check it out for yourself.

Historic Thompson’s Store offers a wide selection of products and local merchandise, so many different jams, molasses and honey. There was a a cheese and meat counter. We bought some bacon and ground sausage to take home for breakfast. It was very good. Definitely stop by when visiting Saluda NC.

Great place to visit if you want to go back in time.. Old timey grill with great hamburgers and milk shakes... Setting is limited and expect a wait at peak hours.. Menu is basically burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches... Outstanding breakfast...good hardy food.. Service is friendly and prompt and prices are very reasonable especially breakfast.

It is truly an old time grocery store. A meat counter, softdrinks and the essential items. The clerk was very helpful. We are sad we missed the time of day that they serve food.

23JUN23 ~ Beautiful Historic Downtown Saluda is throw back fond nostalgia for anyone old enough and lucky enough to have grown up in a small rural town. The exterior of Thompson's grocery store could be original, based on appearance, but the interior is like a state of the art modern grocery store. I went in there once to purchase bananas and the young woman, probably local from her genuinely friendly & helpful attitude, said that they did not have any bananas but the the Hardware Store down the street did have bananas. Don't you just love the small towns and their friendly ways...

Highly disappointed. Was an amazing store until "new management" in 2023. Used to be a great place for a quick trip for fresh produce an needed items. Not anymore. They packed my meat wrong an it soaked thru everything before I got home less than 10 minutes away. They put my cheese on a meat plate to charge more. It's not Saluda anymore. Lost a long term loyalty.

LOVE this store!! They have everything you need!! Such a great selection and high quality items. The steaks are so delicious!! The produce, meats, and the frozen items ready to cook are amazing! Pot pies, peach cobbler, soups, sauces and pasta - really wonderful! We are so fortunate to have a great store right in town! It's great to support local!! Plus with the gas prices on the rise - why leave town to shop - support our local stores! :-)

I'm always surprised by the range of items they have at this small store. It's a lifesaver when we're half way through making a recipe and realize we're missing an ingredient. Excellent pre-made throw in the oven meals in the back freezers are some of my favorites from there.

Went for lunch and had big juicy burger and fries. Husband had traditional cheeseburger and I tried half homemade sausage & half burger choice. It was super tender juicy and little sweet. Totally delicious!We both loved the bun too.Chopped not sliced onions were a pleasant surprise.Fast and friendly.

This is a fantastic store in the wonderful small town of Saluda, NC. They have a meat market in store. They make homemade sausage that is to die for and their hand cut steaks will melt in your mouth. Thompson's Grocery makes it worth the entire trip to Saluda NC but there are quite a few hidden gems in this town.

Awesome store with many locally grown canned fruits and vegetables, pickles and chows, along with regular groceries, and a deli area with specialty meats and sausages. Apparently a long standing feature of this unique little town. Will def stop by again next time we are in town

We have been eating at the Grill for years. Great burgers, fries, hot dogs. Such a big part of Saluda's history. Would take our girls down as children and put pennies on the train track and then wait for the train to flatten them. The store has been cleaned up and updated. Lots of new products and a updated meat counter. My husband loves their sausage!
