One of my FAVORITE places to stop in. They have a great selection! The children's area is absolutely adorable. I love that they have traditional children's books, as well as social justice books geared towards children. Like I said, great selection. If they don't have what you're looking for, they will try to order it for you.

The most adorable bookshop, invigorating so many senses - the smell of books, the creek of original hardwoods, rows of books (spanning multiple levels!).. it truly is a charming shop, with a wide selection of books for all readers, of all ages. Couple that with easy street parking and a lively downtown area, and you have yourself the best small bookshop to visit!

Love this local bookstore! The owner is so nice and so knowledgeable about the books and helping customers find what they’re looking for! They have a good selection of books from any genre you can think of! The building is also very cool with a fun kids section, featuring a dragon, a pretty staircase, and chairs s scattered around.

This is an eclectic bookstore that has something for everyone! Neatly organized! Great children's section Plus it was opened on a Sunday in Salisbury, NC. A PLUS!!! No it's not Barnes and Nobles, so books will not be discounted, but I would rather give my monies to a small business.

We enjoyed visiting this gem. It feels cozy and well loved. The staff has slipped papers along the shelves under some books to give their take on the book. It is a fun touch. I love the squeaky wood floors, the smell of books and the greeter (Hazel the dog)! We found the selection to be great and we will return soon.

Tue atmosphere was amazing and the girl working there gave me some really good suggestions when I asked. She was very personable and knowledgeable about what they had in stock. I got the first book from a trilogy and I'll definitely be going back here for my books!

Despite not finding exactly what I was looking for, I was very pleased with my quick visit here. This nifty local book shop is staffed with passionate people who would help or teach anyone that asked. They have a beautiful selection of books.Also, the dog was adorable--very relaxed and friendly. Perfect bookstore pet.

I love Main St Book Company! I can always find something new to read, whether it's on the current bestseller list or something that was published 20 years ago. If they don't have it, they can easily order it for you.Prices are comparable to the big box bookstores, but the best thing of all is it's a local owned and run business. Win win!!That is the number one reason why I don't order books from Amazon or visit a bookstore chain.They also have online ordering from the comfort of your home.The atmosphere of the store is welcoming, the selection is wide, and the friendliness is the best!Thanks for serving Salisbury and the local community!

As a self-described bibliophile, to me there is something wonderfully comforting about visiting a bookstore. As everyone undoubtedly knows, small, local bookstores are becoming a vanishing breed. How happy I was to come across this absolute gem of a bookstore in the heart of Salisbury.As others have noted in other reviews, this is not a store that covers every subject and has thousands of titles available. Instead, it is clear that this is a store that subscribes to the notion that ideas matter. It is so evident from the moment you walk through the door that the owner carefully selects which tomes to present, in a thoughtful manner.I loved browsing among the selection and, having chosen a few books, sat down in a very comfortable chair to make sure they were what I wanted. The staff was very courteous and it was obvious from the outset that these are people who, like myself, love books.Wonderful job in a wonderful place.Cheers!Ken

Every section is well-labeled; the variety is very wide for the size of the store. It reflects what a local bookstore should be all about - good selection, personalized recommendations, excellent customer service!

This store is so beautiful and has such a helpful staff! It is a true gem in Salisbury! The owner truly cares about helping our community, we are so lucky to have this book store as part of this community. I stopped in this evening after being in Salisbury for a continuing education class and was so pleased! Great selections and staff. I came away with two books but could’ve purchased half the store! Matter of fact, in reading the reviews before I visited, I saw where someone had held their bachelorette party here, which prompted me to ask my husband if we could get a divorce, I plan my bachelorette party to be held here as well, and then we get remarried. He wouldn’t go for it, but it’s ok, I’ll definitely be visiting again. Thanks!

South Main is my #1 bookstore! Alissa and her team have always been so welcoming and more than willing to help with suggestions, ordering, and locating the perfect story in their thousands of titles. I recently rented the bookstore out for a few hours for my future sister in law's Bachelorette party and it was the perfect backdrop! Though we had minimal decorations, Alissa was eager to help set up, get snacks, and make sure the space was perfect for our night out. It was such a wonderful experience and I definitely recommend South Main as an "out-of-the-box" venue for your next event!

South Main Book Co. is truly the hidden gem of Downtown Salisbury. This quaint, locally owned bookstore is something quite magical, with special reading nooks, gorgeous mural work and textures galore. The staff is super friendly and extraordinarily helpful. On top of all that, this shop supports a wide variety local, community organizations and consistently serves as a platform to empower the people and the communities it serves. Salisbury just wouldn’t be the same with our South Main Book Co.!

I've been in several times recently and customer service is lacking. I don't always have a book in mind that I'm looking for and would love recommendations but it's impossible to engage anyone there in conversation. They do have printed staff recommendations on the shelves but they don't reference the book so there's no way to tell which book they recommend. It's not a welcoming place, which is sad since it's a small town bookstore. As much as I love supporting small, local businesses, this one isn't worth supporting. We always go to the chain stores.

We love South Main and visit frequently. The selection is great and they are always quick to offer an order of something that isn’t on hand. I’ve protested and talked books with the owner, Alissa, and couldn’t think of a better local business we love to support. Even Santa purchases items here for our household ☺️

This bookstore was recommended to me by a friend. I’ve traveled to this bookstore more than once (an hour commute from my house) to spend my money at this particular bookstore. I have been a patron of this book store since it’s first version in the early 2000s. This store has weathered many storms and now it had its best owner yet! Alissa is very knowledgeable about new releases and always has great suggestions for my young children to read. She is also willing to order any book if it is not in the store. Stores like these are an anchor of our downtown and I would recommend this place over and over again!

Travelers, this is an excellent book store in downtown Salisbury. They have an incredible selection of topics and books to browse and buy. We found service to be excellent, knowledgeable and familiar with all the books and authors we were interested in finding in this store. We bought wonderful books we can't wait to read.
