Recently had my classroom turtle tank completely overhauled. I was prepared to spend $300 for a new filter on Amazon thank goodness I decided to go local. They suggested a filter that was $50 and it's amazing! They helped me make so many great decisions based on their years of experience and owning turtles themselves. They had everything I needed including very hard to get aquarium stones. After voicing my anxiety about setting everything up properly they offered their set-up services at an incredible price and I took them up on their wonderful offer. They were on time, brought everything they needed, were professional, and answered all my questions. It was so cool watching them transform my empty tank into this stunning wonderland for my turtles. This is why you go local!!! This is now my family's store, it's part of our weekly lives. It feels so important to support local businesses like theirs. To create these perfect little worlds for pets when the world feels unpredictable. This is why we chose to live in a small town. For community, to make connections with our neighbors, to support each other. I would recommend Mercantile and RD Aquarium Services to everyone with a pet or thinking about getting a pet 100%!!!

A couple of weeks ago, just after the remnants of Hurricane Ian swept through our area, a friend of mine had found a small doggy sleeping in the street near her house, wet and cold. We tried to locate an owner, to no avail. My friend couldn’t keep this little guy, so my husband and I took him in. We were unable to get him to eat anything except human food, which we knew was not good for him, so we visited the folks at the Mercantile. Ryan and Dale were very informative, and offered us some food samples to try to get our new furry family member to eat something healthy for him. When they heard how we came about having our new little guy, they were very happy that we were willing to rescue him and give him a safe home. They offered some very helpful tips in helping him feel less scared, and in helping our other two dogs with the new addition. I can’t say thank you enough times to these fellas for all their help, and we know that from now on, these are the folks we will go to for all of our pet care and food needs! Horrible experience!! The one that work here have NO CLUE about the things they sell! You ask about fish and they can not tell you what they are. The will read what ever is written on the tank! 90% of the time the takes are full of dead fish! They also do not know the difference between mealworms and super worms! If you’re going to work somewhere where you sell the things for the critters that I have at home then you should be TRAINED PROPERLY before your left in the store alone!

Just moved from Laurinburg to Rockingham so I went in here just to check out what they had to compare it to Tractor Supply, walked out wishing I spent money here first! I did not walk out empty handed though. I overheard an employee talking with another customer about a food brand that I personally feed all of my fur babies, asked him more about it at the register and he walked me over to all the brands he recommends for both cats and dogs. He then gave me a very generous amount of free samples for my cats and a toy for the kittens we just rescued. I take in a lot of strays on my own and was very overwhelmed by the kindness. Knowledgeable and nice employees, clean and tidy store, AND a rewards system, what more could you ask for from your local pet shop? Ya’ll will be seeing more of me soon.

Very knowledgeable, staff is always helpful. Went in for dry shampoo for a dog, wasn't able to find my usual, the employee there was able to help me find a similar substitute according to my pet's needs. Wonderful experience.

The guys in there are very knowledgeable and helped me tremendously. I have 3 dogs, each with their own different dietary needs, and they turned me onto some products that will work for them. The prices are reasonable and they loaded my car voluntarily. Great customer service!

Took my grandson to get a leopard gecko and the guy there was extremely helpful and nice, lord knows I asked 50 questions. Their prices are better than the chain stores. All around great experience.

I'm never going back here again. I was going near about weekly just to pick up odds and ends and check on the reptile rescues they have.but after paying 75$ or so for a dwarf lop, only for it to drop dead for no reason I could tell within a week. Called just to see what could be done cause ... not going to lie. That is a lot for a petshop rabbit. I was told once it was out of their doors it wasn't their issue. My other rabbit is a dwarf (so I was told) and is doing fine so I know it's not the food or water that caused any issues.Regardless I refuse to go back here. Anything I can picked up here I can get at tractor supply or online if need be.Edit:If you were so heart broken you wouldn't have more or less scammed me out of 75$.. the only good thing I can say is my other rabbit from you all is still alive and well. My kids were heartbroken and my 10 year old was the one who found the one who passed (his name was Ash).4 days is not enough time to assess if an animal is healthy, and I have doubts you have vet checks on rabbits done. If they are like other animals you get in.. they are brought in as surprise offspring of pets from random folks who drop them off there.

Stopped there to search for a dog treat that I have a hard time finding. They had one package and I was able to mention to the owner I hoped they would get more. She told me she'd remember and when I stopped yesterday there were 4 packs which I bought. Great people and I will make this place a regular stop.

If you're looking for turtle supplies they don't have much here. We did however get a really nice water heater for her and it's working great.

Awesome place to shop for your fur babies! Great customer service and friendly staff that are knowledgeable. My ferret caught the sniffles 😞 and the owner was sincerely concerned for her. Offered to take her back in to nurse her back to health❤️. I couldn’t give her back but took the owner’s advice for her care and free medicine and my little KiKi is all better! Wonderful products with great prices!

I’m a local groomer and a wildlife rehabber in our district of NC and do a lot of silent community work for rescues in our county. This store has donated and given so much that I was able to feed MULTIPLE strays and ferals in this area along with donating many shampoos and conditioners for my shop and to assist with cleaning rescues. Weeks ago, my dryer broke and Petina, the owner, just let me use her huge dryer to get by until my new one arrived without me even asking. I’ve NEVER experienced genuine community care from many, let alone a store. These folks keep it local and make sure this community is taken care of. Thank you so much Petina Sloan and Mercantile on Broad of Rham. You guys are God sent for your giving hearts and many animals live to see another day all because you have the heart that you do.

its okay if youre knowledgable about the pet youre buying or caring for. if you havent done your research, i dont think the employees are very knowledgable about the stuff they sell. I overheard an employee tell someone to lay their birds millet on the bottom of the cage. It will get soiled on the bottom. Theres 1 parakeet left in the cage, with a severely overgrown beak. Overheard incorrect info about rabbits. There was flies all around the store rabbit, i know flies come in the doors, but they make fly traps. Flies carry disease. I guess my point is to do your own research, and dont rely on the employees info.

Stopped in to get my pup a cone so she wouldn’t lick her wounds from surgery. The man with the dreads was so nice and sweet to her, and gave her treats. The young black man checked me out and was very pleasant!! A customer before me was struggling to count out his change and became flustered, and both of the workers reassured him and helped him with his transaction. Overall, a very wholesome experience.
