They do have a decent variety of freshwater fish. Store is kept clean and the tanks looks well cared for. The staff seems helpful and friendly as well. Disappointed by the selection of hardscape though. Im not going to spend 40$ for a so called “large” spider-wood that is small.

First, I want to add the store really cool to look at. Second, the first guy we talked with was extremely rude to average goers. The second guy was awesome and more personable. The reason for the review is that all their fish either died, got ich, and saprolegnia..I don’t believe in replacing the dead ones, since they should live by doing everything right. I consider my fish as beings not just something fun to look at.The other observation noticed which probably should’ve not bought a fish here is multiple dead fish in the tank simmering on filters and floating on the water. I get fish die but don’t leave them in the tanks to get the other fish sick.

Highly recommend for any new fish owner. All the staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable without making you feel pressured into buying stuff. You can tell they all have a passion in what they do and really do take the time to explain and answer all of your questions. This store had lots of fish fresh water and salt water to choose from as well as tanks and accessories.

I had an aquarium installed. Paid a lot of money for it. Initial conversation included fish added to what we already have. Owner even looked at old tank when he came for consultation and said most will be able to survive with new fish/tank. That was brushed off after installation no matter how many times I brought up about new fish. Also, I explained why it was a time sensitive arrangement and he said it was no problem accomplishing. After installation I was told fish cannot go into tank for at least a week(which was a process for me to do too). That was never brought up beforehand which was first negative outcome for something that was supposed to be a surprise. Installer told me if water gets cloudy to reach out for help. Water became cloudy and scummy within a week. Kept reaching out to owner that now became hard to get a hold of. The one time he called me he claimed he hasn't received any emails from me since a specific date, but funny thing about that is we were so corresponding AFTER the date he claimed he stopped getting emails. Then he said it needed to go through a cycle or two but if I want to take some water out (that I paid for) and replace it with tap water, or come by the store and buy a bacteria that will fix it, I can. I asked, "does it need to cycle through, or do I empty some water?" And, "why should I have to buy anything from the store to help with installation?" Then he switched it by saying the old fish might have caused it, even though I made it clear this started before the fish were introduced. So he said let it cycle through. It never did. I've been trying to figure this all out on my own since the beginning of July so my father can enjoy his 80th birthday gift. Algae, cloudiness, dead fish... I had to throw out the cheap accessories and I'm about to completely clean out the tank. Oh and the timer for the lights? Used and never programmed either. What a shame.

The employees here are a hit or a miss when asking for advice. I just started a 10 gallon for a beta and asked one of the employees working there what I could put in the tank with it and he just said snails. Luckily, I asked other employees who were more helpful and willing to give some advice to someone new. They do have a pretty good selection of fish and plants. They are limited in the types of brands of fish tank they have available or can order. I would suggest looking on Amazon or other online retailers for similar products as they maybe a cheaper option.

I came to visit this store since I was nearby and enjoyed the fish room in Cary. As others said, this one definitely has almost twice the selection of fish as the other one, but the tanks are much dirtier and I saw at least three tanks with dead fish. Prices here are higher than the Cary location and of the five people who walked in while I was there, nobody was greeted. If there’s a fish you have to absolutely buy, you’ll most likely find it here as they have a huge selection and a large Coral selection. I was not very impressed and won’t be returning.

I went in with my daughter today. I wasn't planning on buying anything but saw a lace plant I've been wanting for a while. The guy that got my plant was nice and helpful (my default star goes out to him) but the guy up front was rude. I went to check out and the lady in front of me told the guy to check me out but he told her it was okay without addressing me. Fine for her to go first as she was clearly up front first but the guy didn't say anything to me and my four-year old daughter was already super anxious to go which was obvious. So the lady gave her in-depth frog issue to him and then they go to the back and I'm still waiting with my daughter who was begging me to leave...all I wanted to do was a quick transaction for the plant. I had enough time during this period to search the plant online and found it on eBay so decided to go that route as the employee still wasn't back so I left. As much as I wanted to support a local store for a win-win situation, I won't be going in there again. The employee should have at least acknowledged me to me. The other guy told me they would have new stock in on Wednesday and I was going to return then without my daughter for further purchases but not anymore.

The people are very helpful and they make sure that you buy the kind of fish that you need with the tank conditions that you have.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have a great experience at this establishment. The customer service was lacking. No greeting from anyone. We walked around for about 30 minutes and when we did get get help, he was very rude. My daughter was excited to get her first fish, but we ended up leaving without one. We were both very disappointed. I don’t recommend.

Be careful with this store. The last fish I bought has brought a disease that has wiped nearly half my tank so far. Im realizing this is a pattern. The last time I had this problem was after I bought fish from them. I've never had this issue with Petco or PetSmart. I'm going to have to turn to the Internet for more unique fish going forward.

Do not buy fish from this store. They do not quarantine any of the fish. They are riddled with ich disease. Dead fish in nearly every tank. The store is honestly doing a disservice to the hobby with their lack of care for the health of the fish. I have shopped with them for 2 years and have had roughly a 25% survival rate among dozens of fish, unlike other local stores where I have never had a fish die once. Had a recent ich outbreak(from their fish) and was incorrectly sold pond ich x for my 40 gallon aquarium because they keep the medicine behind the counter. I lost my entire tank in a day. The assistant manager is the only pleasant employee in the whole store, the rest are rude and uncaring.

If I could give ten stars, I would. The staff member that assisted me was extremely knowledgeable. He helped me fix my algae problem within one week! The tank displays are beautiful, and they always have such a variety. 10/10, my favorite place for aquarium needs

Best aquatic place ever! We have been on the hunt for an axolotl (thank you Minecraft...) for MONTHS! We were able to pick one up today for my daughter's birthday and we couldn't be happier! The axolotl we got appears to be acclimating well to its new home and Daniel at the Fish Room was so helpful and knowledgeable about what we needed to do for our new family member. The whole staff has been so patient and helpful with all of my calls for the last weeks while we have been looking for an axolotl, and we are so happy to have gotten this new little friend! We are customers for life!!!!!

Have been here many many times and love it. Most of my fish have come from here. Please keep in mind that all photos posted with this review are of my own tanks and strictly just to display the fish I have purchased from them.

Always knowledgeable and helpful. Some prices may be a dollar or 2 more than other places but the variety of fish, invertebrates, plants, accessories, and much more makes up for this.

Helpful staff but very busy. Also, it seems a bit on the pricey side. Great looking fish with many options.

The Fish Room was exactly what I was looking for. The store itself is very clean which if you have been to other stores you know is a nice change. Most of the tanks are salt was focused but there is a large tank in the back that has a good variety of freshwater plants. The prices are very competitive and the plants are very healthy. It is also nice to have clear signs on the aquarium that let you know how much each plant cost instead of some of the guessing games you play at other fish stores. The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable which made the whole experience excellent. I will be back for sure soon!

I purchased an Axolotl around the beginning of March 2022 from this location. Daniel helped me.I didn't go in intending to purchase one. I had been looking for guppies.Daniel gave me misinformation that some magic bottle he sold me would cycle my tank in 15 minutes. Well I know better now. 100% impossible. I had straight out told him I didn't have a fully cycled tank yet. This led to me having to buy more supplies than needed. Having to "tub" him.I also know now that axolotl's kept on sand when they are under 5 -6 inches causes them to have impactions, that can lead to death. They should only be kept on bare bottom or something akin. They will eat anything... If they are healthy. Please also note the temperature of the tank. Axolotl's should be kept between 60-64 degrees. 75 is dangerous, lethal. Things I know now.....This guy pictured.. In the store... Is clearly on sand. He's the one all the way to the right.I took this picture in the store before purchase to show someone. He's died. Regardless of 2 vet visits. The sand impaction he had was too much and he was only 3 inches. Too little to help more than pain medication.DON'T LISTEN TO PET STORE PEOPLE PLEASE.They only care about your money.Edit: tried going to the store to talk to them about it yesterday. To fix how they are treating their Axolotl's. All I got was we are busy, we have a shipment of fish coming, we don't have time, etc.

Such wonderful memories from here! You go in, and the walls are covered with so much information on water parameters, cycling instructions, & fish needs! Seriously, if you ever wanted to introduce a family member or friend who is interested in the hobby, I highly recommend you take them here at least once! Though, I may be a bit biased because they let me pet the twig catfish 😅Also because I met my best friend Honey here! I LOVE HIM. He's been happy & healthy with no complications, and not a single thought has seemed to cross his goofy eyes. So much smoother than my struggles with online stores! If this face can't convince you I don't know what will.

These guys are great. Super knowledgeable. I go there primarily for their cichlid selection. They’ve got dozens of species, not just the standard “assorted African cichlids” that you’ll find at Petsmart, etc. they also get random high-end pleco species like green phantom and orange fringed... the pics below are a couple species I purchased at Fish Room.

Decent selection of both salt water and fresh water fish, and freshwater plants. They have the best selection of coral I have seen in the local fish stores.Be careful who you get advice from. Some offer good advice, some not so knowledgable They seem to cycle through employees a lot.I always see sick and/or a dead fish nearly every visit, so I would take extreme care introducing a new fish from here. While I haven't bought a new fish in over a year from anyone, I had the most issues in the past with fish from Fish Room. They are less customer attentive than the other fish stores in the area, but their location is better for me and they sell water.

The business is super awesome to walk around in, staff seems to be knowledgeable (really depends on who you talk to). They have lots of great supplies for aquariums, but that is about the only positives I can say. I have bought about 20 fish over the span of 6 weeks and I think I'm at about 10 of those being alive now. They just seem to slowly die a few days after i get them. I drip acclimate them and test water parameters before adding fish. I have 30 other fish that I bought online and they are all still alive and healthy. There have been days where I go into the store and their tanks just look like morgues. I can understand a dead fish here and there, but when I see 5 or 6 dead in multiple freshwater tanks, it makes me weary on purchasing. They have a return policy, but it requires you to bring the dead fish as well as a water sample for testing. That would be super easy to do if the fish die all at once, but they are just slowly dying off so it require me to be at the store multiple times a week in order to receive any kind of refund so it just wouldn't be worth it personally. I will just take the loss and buy elsewhere at this point. Will definitely still shop here for supplies, just not fish.

Staff is always polite and always willing to help. They can get backed up but when they do they serve you in the order you came in and are always helping you with your needs and not just selling specific products. I would recommend this one even over their other locations I greatly appreciate everything this store has done for me and I owe my success as a fish keeper to them. Thank you guys!!

I love this place! I started coming here about 6 months ago when I got back into having an aquarium and want to support local. The staff there is phenomenal - I always forget his name but there is a younger man there that is always extremely helpful and takes the time to answer any questions. Fish are well taken care of and healthy. No hitchhikers have ever been introduced to my tank from here either. They often have nano fish that are hard to find anywhere else! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
