If you're looking for pets to adopt, stop into Anson County Animal Shelter. Check their website to see the pets that are available for adoption. The shelter is small and super clean inside. The people running the animal shelter are very nice. Here is Karma, who was transported to a rescue. She will be up for adoption soon.

Great animal shelter! I brought my cats here to get them spayed and neutered. They did a fantastic job and my babies are doing great!

The management and staff do an AMAZING job with the animals, and have turned this one into a virtually no-kill shelter. My family has adopted multiple pets from here. The facility is very clean and the lobby and pet meeting rooms are always bright and well decorated. My family has adopted multiple pets from here. I couldn't be more proud to recommend this shelter based on this review. The only suggestions I could offer would be to add staff so there could be Saturday hours.

Located across Hwy 74 from the John Deere store. There's a big sign for "feild of dreams" that's bigger than the animal shelter sign and easier to see from the road.My first experience is a free rabies clinic at Anson County Animal Shelter. The ad for the clinic said to stay in your car and this proved a problem since they really wanted you to go stand in line and leave your pets in your car. This lead to people being skipped instead of 'first come first served'. The employees giving the injections were nice and conscientious of not letting the animals jump out of the car. The event is held outside but there were no face masks or social distancing.

Love it, so awesome, great friendly staff. I went to volunteer with my step daughter and ended up adopting our new addition to our family. A 1 year old feline named Stormy aka Molly! The tuxedo kitty laying down is her. I included a few more who would love to find a good family to adopt them. I'll be back in August to adopt another one again. Enjoy the pics.

This shelter does an amazing job with their animals. Their tiny building, and tiny staff goes above and beyond to treat their shelter animals as family. They cook them special meals, find funds for enrichment treats/activities for the animals, socialize them as much as possible and try their best to find loving forever homes for their animals. Their animals have such great temperaments because of how well they're treated at the shelter. Highly recommend adopting, rescuing, or fostering from ACAS!

Update: I went there today (3/17/23), and was treated quite disrespectfully by the female owner. She kept screaming at me, and then her husband walked over to me, blocking my path into the building. He asked me what do I want. Foolishly, I answered that I wanted a dog. I finally got tired of their antics and said that I will go elsewhere. I got back into my car only to see the banshee walk up to my car. I opened my car window slightly and she spoke in a less abrasive tone--too late, I was already petrified and needed to leave. One strange looking Muslim woman vs. six rednecks=lynching.I wonder how they treat the animals ?*************************************Animals seemed happy. Not much of a selection--there were a lot of rottweiler mixed breed except for Farah (who needs a home).

I WAS TOTALLY IMPRESSED !!!This place is amazing. They truly care about what they do. The dogs and cats get great healthcare, food and play time. So when you adopt from them you know you're getting the healthiest family friend possible. I know they also work with alot of rescues so that euthanasia when they are over crowded is avoided at all costs..This is a great group of people working hard for our four legged friends and for Anson County.

This is a completely unprofessional place of business. I am from Anson County, grew up in Anson County, but I do not reside in the area anymore. However, two kittens showed up at my brother, and his wife's, house. My brother work long days, and my sister-in-law is out of town. After informing this location that I put the kittens in a box with holes, and that I needed to bring the kittens today because my husband is highly allergic to kittens, and one appeared to be injured from what I come see. I was told that I could bring the injured kitten, but to keep the uninjured kittened because they only perform intake Monday - Thursday, and today is Friday. I asked if they could make an exception because I did not want to risk my husband's life for an animal. They would not make an exception, so apparently human life is not important to the people at this location. Then, I was told that they wouldn't take the kittens from me because I don't live in the area. I informed them that my brother gets off work when they are closed, and that my sister-in-law was out of town. I cannot believe people really operate like this. This would never happen in the Raleigh area. Even when you try to do the right thing, it still gets you no where whatsoever!!! I would give zero stars if it was allowed!!!

I started out just trying to get help with feral cats in my yard and 8 months later they're like family. They are very helpful and accommodating. Today I stopped by to get help feeding the cats over the holidays and they were once again more than willing to assist.

Going to get on the soapbox here. People - take responsibility for your pets. Spay and neuter and don't dump them at shelters when you are tired of them. The shelters are all full and the rescues aren't taking animals. So what do you think is going to happen to them? That said, Anson County Animal Shelter is great. They do their utmost to find homes and rescues for the animals that are turned in, but think people! Are you going to dump your children when you get tired of them?

Horrible, rude, mean, ugly, obese humans run this place. I personally hope you all get cancer but I'm sure diabetes will get you first. I'm ashamed that my tax money goes to you people.

So thankful that this place was available today. Someone dropped their pregnant cat off near my home. It was nice to be able to go in and have it scanned for an implanted chip. No collar and no chip. All of my questions were answered, resources were contacted, and I decided to give the cat a home. The lady there is doing a great job. Thinking about volunteering to help out there.

Who doesn't love animals? If you are in the market to get a cat or dog come here and get you a rescue. The dogs and cats here are so sweet and just want a kind and caring home. There isn't a large assortment here but the animals are precious. The employees here are super nice and will let you play with the animals. They are also looking for volunteers as well! Another nice thing is that they euthanize only about 1%. That 1% is generally if they are in serious failing health or are very dangerous/aggressive and have been in incidents.

Unfortunately I had to give this one star in order to right a review. I hate to see most people lose their job but I hope everyone of you lose your jobs. You clearly do not care about animals and mistreat them. How could you kill a little innocent puppy? We live in Ohio and when a friend shared the cute video of Shayla (again, an INNOCENT puppy!!), If she was still available, my husband was going to leave tomorrow to try to get her. You had so many offers of help and didn't care. Why would you work with animals when you obviously hate them and you don't think getting nipped by a puppy is normal. Please leave your jobs (although I hope you're all fired) and let someone love those abandoned babies. Hopefully someone will be smart enough to shut you down before you can hurt another animal.

They do such a wonderful job with the animals there. They are super friendly. The facility is clean, and the animals are healthy. We drove an hour to get there, and adopted two male kitten brothers. Lucky Jack and Binx Tarango. They are already such fun, and giving their older new sisters Orla (cat) and Bandi (dog) Hell. Lol! We are so happy to have had the pleasure of adopting from these great people.

Waited outside in line for 30 minutes while all the girls inside were doing nothing but playing around and laughing. Get inside and get told I have to be 21 in order to see a dog. They told me to ask my parents to adopt it for me. I live by myself but I have to be 21 to get a dog? Yeah this place is terrible. Don’t recommend it for anyone. Just trying to help the world but of course the HUMANE SOCIETY OF YORK COUNTY has to be the worst place ever. Thanks for nothing.

Cant get them to answer he phone or investugadogs being abused at 51 Birdsong road. No water or food bowls. No house for shelter. The dogs have had to stay out in the rain and cold frost. Yet no one will investigate or return your call. This Place needs serious restructuring.

This shelter needs to seriously improve it management and staff. They are unnecessarily murdering thousands of animals because of their incompetence and lack of compassion for the animals whose lives they are sadly put in charge of.
