OMG!! Hard to believe it is the same place!! The transformation is remarkable! River Country Campground is a wonderful place to get away from it all with the convenience of hot showers and flushing toilets. We stayed from Memorial Day until the end of August 2022 and have reservations to return June-August 2023! See y’all soon!

This place now looks amazing the bath houses are incredibly clean beautiful and tiled.... The roads are fabulous and graveled all of the old wires and pipes are gone. And those huge piles of concrete are gone as well... Is fabulous renovations taking place.

Very helpful staff. Park is under repairs and is really looking good. The store/office when completed will be a plus to the campground and the area. I will return and hopefully be on the river front. One thing that I would like to see improvement on is the quiet time. They really need to look at some improvement there. Very quiet in the morning because to many stay up late. But that's just me, I like the morning better.

Beautiful riverside views, clean bath house, well manicured properties. 2nd year in a row I've camped here for the end of a river float trip. Highly recommended.

Rivercamp USA was really nice! Under new ownership and it really shows how much they care. The bathhouse is gorgeous, clean and well cared for. The sites are spacious and the staff is incredibly accommodating.

This is the new Rivercamp, LLC. It is more beautiful now than ever, the new management team is dedicated to raising the bar on beauty, cleanliness and with a bathhouse like never before. The road into the sites is actually graveled with no mud to deal with. We are reserving a site to leave our RV for many trips back.

Found the best place to camp, canoe, kayak on the New River on the Alleghany County line. The New River is the county line between Ashe County area above Jefferson, NC and the Allegheny Count line is pretty remote - slightly west of Sparta, NC. This butts up to the VA line at Mouth of Wilson and joins the VA Creeper Horse or hiking trail and I 'think' part of the Appalachian Trail. It's just an amazingly gorgeous place that's camper / water sports lover place to stay. Worth the extremely reasonable rates and directly across from the King's Creek Bridge / NC State Park Access. I recommend calling Jay for an advance reservation. 37 RV sites with power and water hook ups, camp store and beer, wine allowed (in camp only - if you behave) and respect the family-friendliness of the venue. I give it 20 stars, out of 10 for being a camper / water sports lover mecca. And, being a tourism writer - that's a HUGE compliment for me. Will post gorgeous photos I have been taking for a tourism article - AFTER I pick up the kayak I won at Boondocks for supporting New River Clean Up. An update is this is under new management so I have no idea about the new owners.

The current owners have effectively ruined this once nice campground. We have been many times in the past during summer to enjoy the river and tubing. Called this year to book our trip to be informed that he no longer offers shuttle rides up the river, closed the campground store and didnt no longer have a functional bathhouse. Please someone buy this guy out so this park can be great again!!

We've stayed a few times now and it feels like home now. The campground is small enough that the kids can ride their bikes in the loop and still be within ear shot and the grounds are always clean. The staff is usually very helpful and we really enjoy our trips on the river.

Great place to come and enjoy with your kids! The owner has my complete respect, he runs and operates "HIS" campround based on his rules. He is a great guy and if you give him the respect due of an owner you will learn he is a great guy! We have been coming yearly and we love it, we will return again next year. So if you want to spend a memorable weekend with your family, this is the place to do it. We always go tubing, kayaking and conoeing. Thanks to the owner for a great time!

This campground has so much potential. Such a shame to see it being neglected. Beautiful location on the river, but campground needs serious clean up and repairs. Main drive through campground is washed out with potholes. Concrete debris piles are a liability and safety concern for children playing in campground. Water lost all pressure while we were there. Owner is difficult to deal with and rude. Cell phone service is horrible, even with wifi. Park needs stronger signal, constantly kicking you off and dropping calls. Grass hadn't been mowed since the park opened ( first of May). I think the owner isn't interested in making improvements due to the statement he made about being there too long and he's looking for a business partner to buy him out. Pretty sure the vehicles hauling equipment and people to river for water activities haven't passed vehicle inspections in many years! Once and done for this RV park campground.

Very nice, and clean bathhouse. Nice people, and a nice relaxing place. ATVs quit running around dusk(tuber riding shuttles), and made for a relaxing evening. ! Will definitely go back!

A group of us visited the 2nd week in Aug 2013. This was one of the best trips I have taken in awhile. The grounds were perfect for camping right along the river. The bugs were seldom seen. We were able to have a beautiful camp fire, wood supplied by Rivercamp, Which was very convenient! All of the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and any questions I had concerning the river. The group we had consisted of 4 adults and 2 kids (7 and 8). We rented a canoe and a three person raft. We were able to attach the raft via rope to the canoe so that way we did not get separated going down the river. The bath house was very clean and kept up very well. I know for a fact this will be visiting here again real soon! Again, Thanks goes out to all the staff who helped make this such a memorable time for my family and friends!

Just love River Camp, USA! Been coming here since '06, where I just spent a few days here while heading up to northern Minnesota. Since '17, I've stayed here from early to mid May to late November.River Camp is on the New River, oldest river in the country, just a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, great wineries, gem mines and extraordinary views!

Great location for a campground. Dude running it is a bit odd. Bath house is as clean as it can be to be a completely open bath house. No one can see you when you are in there but it is not closed up to keep varmits, bugs, and critters out. I would only stay if I had my own camper and bath. All extras in the store are expensive so brace yourself. Overall a decent place, great location.

I think we have been coming here for 14 years. It is always a bit chaotic over the holiday weekend, but the best facilities and prices in the area. The campsite have lots of shade which is appreciated if you don't spend your day on the river. There are bathrooms with running water and showers. No beer sales on Sunday morning, so stock up on Saturday or you have to wait until noon.

We just left River Camp USA... positive part of our trip was that our site was right on the river, and the view was wonderful. That's the only GOOD part of our trip. Now for the down side...1. We had rented 3 sites... 2 with power and water and 1 without...Upon arrival, we were only given two. One of those sites was not even labeled but luckily, we knew we had side by side sites so we figured it out. Prices were a little outrageous in my opinion.2. Day two, we wanted to go tubing and were told there was no public access to the river.. that we would need to be shuttled there. We had our OWN TUBES blown up and ready to go... they wanted to charge us $10 per person (there were 6 of us) to take us about two miles up the road and put us in the river. $60 to drive us 2 miles when we have our own Tubes? Seriously overpriced!3. Since you're charging so much to shuttle people up the river, you should have enough money to fix the campground up... many, many eyesores here!We were honestly bored out of our minds the whole time we were there... however, there was a sweet older lady with short blonde hair that worked there that was so nice to us... keep her around! We will not stay here again nor recommend it to anyone else!

this review is for River Camp USA, camp ground.if i could give this place a - star i would.the river trip itself was great, however renting a kayak from River camp USA, was a complete nightmare. I've never in my life been treated so rudely, or made to feel like i was a burden for trying to give this company our business. The owners need to take some classes in organization with a double major in people skills.also, the prices in their store are outrageous. $30 for a case a beer? price gouge much? never again...........lesson learned.

My family and I stayed at Rivercamp USA for a little over a week and we couldn't have been any happier. The owner Jay had a very nice attitude and helped accommodate any of our needs. Even though his ownership is 50/50 he was always the one we saw checking up on everyone and the Camp sites. Joanna is has the other 50% ownership and the only reason she ever came to the campsites was to complain about what people were doing and complaining about Hannah the PR. Hannah was a great person inside and out. She made sure everyone was having a wonderful time and made sure everyone was safe by telling us a big storm was approaching very quickly. Joanna had absolutely no reason to complain about Jay or Hannah because they did so much more than she did. Jay is hands down the absolute best at what he does for a living. Jay always had a smile on his face and even told my little sister and I about the history of the bridge and other things around the campsite. We all had a wonderful stay at Rivercamp USA and will most definitely be coming back. Thanks Jay for making our stay at Rivercamp USA the absolute best !!!

The property and scenery are fantastic, and location is good and easily accessible. There are potential hazards due to open holes, protruding pipes, exposed wires, etc. because of ongoing projects. General housekeeping could be improved. Some trees encroaching on the roadways that brush larger units at the entrance.

In the most beautiful setting of Alleghany on the second oldest river in the world, you would think this a golden opportunity for awesome family fun. Alleghany is known for its friendly atmosphere, but these people aren't really from around here. RUDE is putting it lightly! And if you have small children Forget about it. The swings must be for somone else because they are NOT for children, neither is River Camp USA!! No access to that awesome river, no children near it, but there is a creekside camp area, if you want to drive whatever distance for mountain tranquility to camp at a creek. Forget About It !! Jay is NOT Friendly, they don't know what there own rates are and their literature (if available) is not up to date! $25. per night per COUPLE ?? Get real !! No this awesome spot of beauty is not so beautiful to its campers or potential campers !!! When they meet you at the porch and pound at your children foralmost breathing to hard, this my friends is NOT what our mountain community is about so go ahead, go elsewhere and enjoy these awesome mountains and people, but do not assume or even think that this type of Mis treatment is what Alleghany is about because it is not even close !!

This will be a difficult review. First, location, location, location. River Camp, USA is situated on the New River in some of the most beautiful scenery the NC mountains have to offer. The campground could be one of those little secret places only word of mouth would let you find, but it is not there yet. The property is in a perpetual state of construction but nothing is getting done. With 5 years between my last visit and most recent, not one single thing has been done. Same construction, same massive pothole, same wiring/plumbing problems, etc… Open plumbing and wiring from defunct telephone/plumbing lines persist. The water and power pods are on the wrong side of the camper (curb side) and the gravel road is in need of grading. The bathhouse is a dark, damp storage room with no ceiling and wires everywhere. A well stocked beer (I mean) camp store and office has no reservation system and a manual paper filing system to track guest visits and billing. The owner seems to be more of a policeman than hotelier. Campers are respectful of those around them and very private however, the owner needs to mind his own business and less of his guests. Not to completely bash River Camp, USA, some suggestions need to be heeded to make this a true gem of a camp ground. The following are desperately needed:1. Introduce a computer with a hosted reservation system.2. Update the camp store to accommodate less beer, reasonable prices, and more family friendly items for sale.3. Hire an administrative assistant or Work Camper to specifically manage the office.4. Re-grade the roads or lay down fresh gravel (which is piled up and waiting to be spread).5. Trim back trees from the roads and campsites to accommodate larger rv’s.6. Shift campsites so that utility pods are on the correct side (grading involved).7. Remove all exposed wires, cables, and plumbing that are not in use.8. Complete the “under construction” portion of the campground or cover over and landscape if it can’t be used for hook-ups.9. Update the playground area for both safety and fun.10. Signage for designated overflow parking areas.11. There is obsessive ownership concern about vehicles crushing sewer lines. If that is a problem, then fix it.12. Clear the trees/overgrowth from the American Flag.Bottom line, this is a great location to camp and it could be so much more if more attention to detail were placed. Will we visit again? More than likely not…some things have to change.

I tried multiple times over the course of two weeks to get someone on the phone. Lots of rings, the phone number listed on the website and the phone number listed in google is apparently some lady's personal number. I called one time and I was on hold for like 30 minutes. Beleive it or not, I actually overheard Kristen's group check in and I heard the entire back and forth with this lady from the camp and this gentleman trying to check in, and some idiot on a radio. Apparently the campsites aren't marked, and just listening to the confusion, it sounded as if no one was in charge or knew what was going on. When they were done with Kristin's group no one ever came back to the phone. Then I hung up and tried calling back several times to a busy phone line which means that phone just sat off the hook forever. I tried calling again on Sunday -- the lady answered again -- obviously still sleeping and said the number was a personal number, the one she had given me an email in response to my first inquiry into a site. Then I checked on line and I called the number again and she said she was upset that she had to go look up the number like anyone uses damn phone books anymore.I haven't stayed here so I can't rate that, but I won't be staying here because I am not the only one thats had issues trying to make reservations and if their service in trying to make said reservations is anything like the actual stay will be then it would be a ruined trip.Recommendation to the Site: If you're the owner, realize the internet is a powerful device to book reservations, if you're too busy or too lazy to take reservations via email or on the phone, the internet makes a great alternative. You're in the hospitality business, be hospitable. Don't speak to your customers as if they are being a pain in your ass.

Great place to camp by the river for a few days. Clean bathhouse, electric and water on the sites. Can catch a van up the river to go tubing/canooing/kayaking on site. Convenient store for items you may have forgotten.

This is a great campground on the river, the staff are great to talk with and eager to assist you with whatever you need. The office area and just outside could be cleaned up some and didn't use bath house so no idea of the condition
