This place is incredible. After becoming "stuck" on the island due to wind storms, we were scrambling for a place to stay for the evening. Sherry is one of the kindest people I have ever met in my life and assured us that she would not let anyone or their pets sleep in their cars while the storm passed. Not only did she get our family and dog into a room for the night, we enjoyed the staff and lodging so much that we decided to get ourselves stuck and extend the trip by an additional two days at Blackbeard's Lodge.

Stayed here for 5 nights July into August..We had Apt 5 and it was so nice, cool and clean ...always an awesome stay! Love the history of the hotel...the quirkiness of the rooms and most of all the staff! ! They are the best! It's like seeing family year after year! And to Mr. Dan who is an amazing storyteller and historian. We will be back for our 10th year next year! Don't change anything!

I stayed at Blackbeard's Lodge 20 years ago with my parents and nephew. It was the most fun and most memorable vacation I have ever taken. I decided to come back during my spring break with my husband, our 3 boys, and brought my parents along with us. We stayed in the manager's apartment. We had a wonderful stay, again! The location is perfect, close walking distance to everything! The apartment was perfect size for our large party and the private screened in patio made enjoying sitting outside even better. We came during a very chilly and windy time, but we still had the most fun. Staff was amazing and very helpful when we needed the trash taken out. There were a few roaches, but it's an old building and surrounded by trees, so wood roaches are not unexpected. We absolutely will be returning again, but during a warmer month next time. Thank you for such a wonderful vacation!

In a nutshell, save your money and stay elsewhere. For the price of a room better accommodations should be provided. Historic does not justify expensive rooms with substandard upkeep. The inn is in dire need of repair in many many ways. Outside steps and patios, etc are boards that are so weather-worn that I'm sure they would be considered a safety hazard if inspected by code inspectors. Our room was on the third floor. You must go from the second floor outside and up two flights of steps to get to the room. As you went out door on the second floor to get to the third floor there was water dripping from air conditioner with a bucket setting where the water was dripping and you had to walk to one side and around the bucket to get by. There is a small patio for use. There was no closet space nor a place to put your suitcases. The Direct TV was not working and we were told it would be 3 more days before a service repairman would be coming to fix it. I reported a piece of back molding on one of the steps that was coming unnailed and loose. Three days later it still had not been fixed. The hot water handle in the bathroom sink kept coming unscrewed. One extension cord used for refrigerator and coffee pot. One lamp which was plugged in did not work at all even with changing the bulb. Maintenance and improvements on the inn have been seriously ignored. The room was clean and clean towels were given each day because we put out the "needs housekeeping" sign. No problems with the staff to speak of. One of the staff ladies was very pleasant and quite helpful but the others were in dire need of a personality that better serves the public. Won't stay there again - wish I hadn't stay there this time!Noteworthy details: The review says it all.

We have had two experiences staying at Blackbeard’s Lodge and two totally different results.Last year was a good enough experience to come back this year, obviously. This year? We won’t be back. When we made our hotel reservation, we also reserved a golf cart which we thought would be very convenient. We could have reserved with any number of other outlets, but we chose Blackbeard’s for convenience. However, when we arrived it had been raining, as it often does in Ocracoke and there were puddles. When we checked in, we had to wait for several minutes for the clerk to arrive. We tried calling the number left at the front desk, but it went to voice mail. Finally after several minutes the clerk arrives, makes no apology for being absent and starts the check in process. We asked to confirm the reservation for a golf cart and the clerk responds with, - rudely - “that isn’t happening”. No apology, nothing. We asked about the possibility that we could could rent one tomorrow and were given an indifferent response that if maybe the puddles ran off we might be able to.The following day we asked again and the same clerk pointed outside and shook her head. So, we walked up the street to Wheelies, where they gladly rented us a cart. A few hours later, we parked the cart where a different Blackbeard clerk was showing a woman how to use the golf cart they just rented to her! Obviously, they had a problem renting a cart to us, but not someone else.Of course, the room had its issues too. Once it got dark, we noticed a significant amount of light coming into the bathroom from the corner and from every piece of plumbing (pics included). I looked for a camera and didn’t see anything, but clearly there was something unusual going on with that bathroom. Also, the stopper in the tub doesn't work, so forget using the whirlpool bath - however, when trying to turn the shower on, no matter what temperature you have it set for, it comes out 100% cold from the shower head and no amount of waiting or adjusting changes it. Absolutely useless.Rude and unfair treatment, substandard room - no, we will never be back and we recommend you look elsewhere too.

Overall, a pretty decent hotel for the price. We stayed in Apartment A, and the biggest issue I had was the bunk bed. On the site, it features a metal bunk bed with intact rails. What we have is a wobbley wood bunk bed with the safety rails removed, so we had to restructure the sleeping arrangements to accommodate our kid's safety. This is an old hotel, which on the one hand is really cool, but on the other hand, it means that its wiring and such could use some updating. The queen bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean.Walkability: Very easy to walk to most places in town. Ocracoke doesn't have sidewalks, so if you have mobility limitations that require a smooth walking/rolling surface, I would recommend renting a golf cart.

We got to the island early and checked to see if our room was ready and it was which is always a plus. All the staff were super friendly. They recommended places to eat and things to do. They really went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Our cars battery died the first night and Sherry pulled her personal vehicle over and gave us a jump! The room was super cozy and just right for our family. The pool was really nice as well. The place is in a great location kind of in the middle of everything. If you’re looking for a great feel good place to stay, give them a try!

Beds were pretty comfortable. It has a certain "charm". It had a decent size trash can - larger than any other hotel I've stayed at recently. It was cleaned well upon arrival with decent linens and plenty of towels. The birds living in the wall provided some pleasant morning chirping. The maintenance of the building is poor with years of the cheapest renovations possible. We cancelled plans at the campground due to weather and stayed here instead, so keep in mind we were geared up for tent camping - not looking for anything special. That being said, you would expect at a minimum the door to fit in the door frame and a place to hang more than one towel. There were 2 window A/C units in the room - one apparently stopped working so they cut the cord on it and installed another in the window. It was extremely loud, barely kept up with the temperature and didn't keep up with humidity, though it was full of mold. It seemed the floor under the toilet was rotted out - it moved when sitting on the toilet. Of course this means the wax seal was no good - had to keep the door to the bathroom closed to keep out the smell. We brought coffee as the room was listed with a coffee maker, but it didn't have standard filters, so we we couldn't use it. (The filter in it was soggy.) No hot cups provided, either. Other than that, it was as expected - an old building with old electrical (few outlets) and plumbing (no pressure-balancing valves on the showers!!). Only saw one bug. It gets muddy around the whole building with the rain. The pool is okay, but when we were there the water was cloudy enough that you couldn't see someone at the bottom (7'). There is a very strong smell of sewage behind the building.

An older historic lodge loaded with history and lots of charm. Plenty of rocking chairs and porch swings. We were there for three nights, and changed rooms 3 times, because we booked late and Sherry, the manager, was able to accommodate us by that arrangement. Each room was very clean, had it's own air conditioner. The beds were very comfortable. The pool has new decking and new furniture, and has shaded areas as well as full sun.The water temperature in the showers fluctuates quickly, not too hot, just warm and cold. Quick showers work best.

After showing up to learn that a generic booking site screwed up my reservation, they worked diligently to find us a room for the night, and a larger room for the remaining 4 nights. The price difference was only a few dollars more.Wonderful staff, terrific "at home atmosphere", and free coffee all day!Cheap bike rentals on site too.Our third, maybe fourth time staying there. They never let us down.

WAY to expensive for what you get. It’s almost like they know they have a captive audience here. Room was very very small, generally clean though spider cobwebs in corner and several small bugs found in the room. Extremely small TV. Working space heater and AC. Parking isn’t great. Pillow was uncomfortable. Old rooms.

Our family stayed in the Boyette Suite. It was perfect for our family of four. The kids has their own room (they were super excited to have their own key!) that was connected to ours. The staff was amazing. Due to strong winds the ferry was shut down In the morning. They let us back in our room to hang out for a few hours, no problem. Will definitely stay here again when we come back.

Kelly at the desk was great. Her personality was sweet and she made you feel at home. Our room 19 over look the pool and at night no matter if the blinds were down and the curtains were closed the blinking light from the pool bother my husband sleep. The shower water would be warm and quickly turn to cold and I heard my husband yelled. He decided next morning to wash his hair in the sink and sponge off. The sink water did great. I think an orb light came to visit us in that room. I got up at 2 am or so on our last day and there in that mirror by the sink a circle light showed up from no where. I kept looking for something to be reflecting onto the mirror and there was not anything so it spook me and I jump into bed next to my hubby. Wow .

Blackbeard's Lodge is a really cute inn with a vintage vibe. We got the last apartment on the island and were told we didn't have a pet room despite booking one online, but the lady at the desk worked it out for us. The AC unit wasn't abnormally loud and kept the room cool all night. The pool was clean and the lights at night were a nice touch. Yes, the floors are thin and we had an issue with the partners upstairs who kept us up late with their party and woke us up early vomiting but the front desk was quick to respond to the nighttime situation. Overall, we would come back here but we'll book early enough to get the third floor, lol.

My boyfriend had been staying here for years but this trip ended that. Front desk staff seemed annoyed by our presence. When we asked for towels they stated “you could have let the maids do their job.” Not that I have to explain myself but we didn’t need the room cleaned, just towels please.Golf cart we rented would not go properly.Water pressure is non existent.Hot water is warm at best and must come over on the ferry. The room stayed cool (not cold mind you) at night and warm during the day.Our phones never even showed the internet for us to use the passwords.Simply said… no thank you. I will just go back to renting a house. To the housekeeping staff and the one friendly staff member we had, thank you and I hate I didn’t get your names.

We were exploring the beach on a whim and decided we were done with camping and wanted a hotel. This wonderful spot had a jacuzzi tub that gave me the back massage I needed. We were able to get a dog friendly room which was great to give our puppers some A/C and privacy. The room was super clean and the bed was quite comfy. The pool was super clean and not super chlorinated like other places. Not on the main thoroughfare which made the stay quiet. A short walk to good food and shops and scenery. Looking forward to the next time I am in town stopping at our new favorite inn!!

Three stars for Blackbeard’s, mainly due to poor service and some safety upgrades that are necessary. Upon arrival, we had to wait quite a while to even be greeted (no one at the front desk, although we could see a girl up in the office who held up a finger for us to wait). She then seemed put out when we were asking questions about golf cart rental, check-in and check-out, etc. I literally never saw anyone at the front desk unless someone was checking in, and the door to the office was often closed with the “be back in ten minutes” sign posted. The staff seems to take frequent smoke breaks on the front porch leaving no one inside to actually help their guests, and while they are they they seem irritated to see you. I’ll note that I’ve read glowing reviews about the long-time manager there, but we never met her, unfortunately. It’s sad that the rest of the staff isn’t more accommodating and polite. The rooms were clean and beds were fairly comfortable, but don’t expect anything to be up to code. We’re talking extension cords pegged to the walls and strung all around the rooms just to use a lamp. Don’t expect central heat or air. One of our rooms had AC in one bedroom and nothing in the other bedroom/kitchen/bath combo but a fan which made for very uncomfortable and humid sleeping in one room. It was odd that there was no microwave in any of our rooms but did have small, slightly-stocked kitchenettes. I suspect microwaves might actually cause the circuits to short out since the building hasn’t been updated and isn’t to code, as one of our bedrooms couldn’t even run both the AC and the TV without shorting out. On a positive note, our kids loved the game room and the small pool. I just wish it was a better experience based on the high price the lodge is able to bring in during peak season on Okracoke.

We stayed 2 nights. Upon arrival we were amazed with how cool the place looked. They had a really awesome game room. The girl at the front desk was super nice and quick to get us checked in. During the stay every time we left she would say "bye" and greet us with a " welcome back" when we returned. We stayed in the Bridge 3 room. It was a very cute room. Very clean. We liked having our own balcony. Our room also had a jetted tub. Worked great. The only thing that I could make a suggestion about would be adding a small microwave to the room and maybe upgrading the mini fridge. Its VERY mini. Luckily we had a cooler but it may be troublesome for others. The AC unit worked well.We loved our stay here. If we return to Ocracoke we will not hesitate to book here again.

We arrived here on the Saturday, only to be evacuated on the Tuesday! The owners and staff are amazing and worked with us exceptionally well. We will return. The accommodation was very well kept and our room was very good. The pool is great for cooling off and the public area is comfy. A great place to come while staying in Ocracoke as a lot of things are within walking distance.
