Home cooking tasts okay, but not great. This place used to have delicious food. It used to be hard to find a table. The last two or three times I went there it was because I was working nearby. There was plenty of room and the food was drab. The waitress may come check on you once.If you are nearby at lunch it works but don't make a special trip.

Service with a smile. Good selection of American food. Accept call in orders, has drivethroughservice. Usually very quick with your order. Check back on you, to be sure you have what you need. They've made some upgrades to bathroom and seating area.

I'm usually really nice when it comes to reviews, but this is starting to be the "norm" when I do to-go orders from this Wayside. This incident has happened twice in the past few weeks and it always happens when Macie T is the one who answers my phone call. I order VERY specific because I know what I'll get if I don't. I always ask for a two egg plate scrambled with well done bacon and well done, crispy hash browns. Both times I have ordered this while she takes my order, it is like it must be going through one ear and out the other one. What I ask for is never reflected on my receipt or in the food I am given. Bacon is always flimsy and both times the hash browns have felt like they hit the grill for thirty seconds. Chewy, no color whatsoever, and incredibly hard to eat. The cooks when I entered today were two teenage looking kids who spent more time goofing off than ensuring proper food quality. They are also touching your toast and breakfast sandwiches with their bare hands today and constantly touching their clothing in between orders. We used to be such loyal customers to this location, but this happening again has turned me off from ever coming back to this location. If you can't listen properly and deliver what your customer asks for, then perhaps this isn't the line of work for you. How many refunds is it going to take before they finally decide to get it right?

I order from this place a lot. Seems the waitresses are rude, the cooks can’t get it right no matter what we order. I ordered a club without mayo, lettuce and tomato and it had it all on there. The fries was super cold in every plate as if they had been sitting for a long time. Not sure what’s going on with this place but the last time I ordered I waited 30 mins in the place and didn’t even go for 25 mins after I ordered. I just spent $48 on food that my kids won’t even eat.

The food was good! We had various hot sandwiches, and my patty melt was delicious! I didn't realize they close at 8:00, and we didn't get there until after 7:00, which I believe may be why our service wasn't the best, and one of our party slipped and fell in front of the restroom door because they had mopped and the floor was wet but you couldn't see it because the area in front of the door was not well-lit. They were apologetic about the accident. I am a huge fan of Wayside in Stanfield, but I can't say I'll go here again.

Wayside has been a feature of Oakboro for years. However, I have had to change this review because I don't feel welcome anymore. Servers answering the phone sound cold in a tone like they don't want to be there. Food is still fine, but customer service has gone downhill even for me, who has lived here over 30 years. Los Jacubes down the road understands the value of having a pleasant demeanor when talking to customers on the phone and in person, so wayside needs to fix this and go back to how I remember it being.

Wife ordered the ham and turkey club. What she got didn't even resemble one. I remembered quickly why we never go to this one! The one in Stanfield is heads and shoulders above this!! One star.

We've been going to wayside for several years now. It is an amazing little place. The ranch is bomb, the wedges are huge. Omg the baked apples, they are the best thing since sliced bread. Get you a side with some vanilla ice cream and that's the best desert ever! The tea is really good. I mean honestly I don't think I've ever had a bad experience ever!!!! The staff is amazing they are so friendly an you honestly have that old tiny diner field they make you feel like you're important and that your table matters. Every time we've been there has been a staff member that will constantly feel drinks and that is the best thing ever I have never had to ask for a refill the whole time I've been going there. If a waitress makes eye contact with you nine times out of 10 she's going to come ask you if you need something and that is something that you don't find everyday. I promise you if you go and you happen to have an experience that is anything but perfect then it's got to be a super busy day or something that beyond their control because honestly they are one of the best restaurants I have seen.

PSA: WAYSIDE IN OAKBORO IS NOT LIKE IT USED TO BE. The chicken tenders are completely different. Which is sad, considering little things like the old tenders are what set Wayside apart from other restaurants. We ordered two kid’s chicken tender plates and a cheeseburger pita.The cheeseburger pita was fresh and spot on. However, the tender plates were absolutely old, hard, and chewy. When trying to break them apart, you had to use some muscle to do so. Fries were also hard and old, and on top of all that? My 6 year old refused to eat it. I called the restaurant and whoever answered assured me they make their food “fresh” every time. Well, in my opinion it’s quite unlikely it was made “fresh” since the overall quality of our take out order was awful.

Very busy Friday night due to cruise in. The food was excellent as was the service. As crowded as it was we were waited on quickly. Drinks were filled frequently. Food came out quickly. I was very impressed with how well they were staffed and how well the staff worked. We had an awesome evening enjoyed the cruise-in and a great meal.

Cheeseburger was worth going for!!! Dining room and restrooms are updated and VERY nice. KIDS MEAL INCLUDES DRINKS AND ICE CREAM!! Salad was fresh and well served. Unimpressed by most of the other food, especially the sides and veggies. Great family spot... friendly service... go for the burgers, take the kids!

Great & friendly staff. Waitresses are always sweet & polite and always smiling. Depends on where I'm working @ I always stop by for lunch and see their friendly and smiling faces.. I also have to mention that the grilled chicken is amazing and alot of other things. & you gotta try the dessert
