Let’s just say it’s 3:00am, a few weeks since I’ve been to Pennys in Oakboro.. and I’m craving their Shrimp Fried Rice. I’ve ordered many things, the food is always fresh, the staff is always amazing! the amount of food received is well worth it. It’s professional, it’s delicious, it’s all of the above! I can probably type for days on how good this restaurant is but I’d rather let people find out for themselves. Read this review, and tell em Josh sent you lol 👍. No but seriously folks, this place is really good.Yes, those are two different orders I took images of on two different days. It’s that good to me.

Update 7/31/2020: seriously, the best double bacon burger I've had in the longest time. Worth more than all those high dollar burgers and more burger than the rest too!Oakboro is out of anyone's way unless you live or work near. But I will make that trip with ZERO hesitation! This place is a hidden gem. One day this restaurant will be listed as a historical landmark in NC! I can think for days about what I want but everytime I arrive I'm torn and can never decide. Pennys steak sub over a Philly sub A-N-Y-D-A-Y! I've eaten pizza subs all around NC and no one makes them like pennys! Pad Thai and sauce as well as their pad see ew Thai dishes are delicious! Foot long hot dogs, JUMBO wings and fried rice, spaghetti and double bacon cheeseburger, specialty large pizzas... OMG! Comfort food at its finest!

We enjoyed our food and experience at Pennys. My husband said it was one of the best burgers he ever had. My buffalo chicken sandwich was delicious as well. We will definitely be back soon!

I lived in area 20 years ago, worked at paper plant over two years. I would eat here weekly, sometimes twice a week. My go to is their lo-mein. The noodles is awesome and they can spice it up nicely (medium). I also like their pizza. I live in concord now but when we are on our way to or back from the beach, it's a must!Vegetarian options: Veggie lo mean. Pizza

What a great surprise! My first time there... had a foot long hot dog, order of 5 hot wings with house fried rice and a big diet coke.... don't judge me...the wings were awesome... crispy but hot... best wings I have had in ages... house fried rice is a winner.. full of shrimp, pork, chicken... totally worth the trip there... even the hot dog was good....not great, but pretty darn good.

Went to cruise in and needed to eat. I had the BEST hamburger I've had since I don't know when. Fries were good too. I highly recommend. Very good food and very good service.

My Dad and I ate at Penny's today (8/2/2022) and it was expensive. $30.00 for 2 people at lunch. They need to post their prices on the wall menu so people can see the prices. I hope they got a good look at my keaster walking out the door cause I won't return. What's even worse, I brought my own bottled water.

Used to absolutely love this place because of the lovely people working there and great food been a costumer since I can remember and never had a problem until lately There were really nice people always working there but there has lately been this really rude lady there that doesn’t even greet me when I get there I guess it’s something against me because she treats the rest good. When I call to order my stuff she says she doesn’t understand me so I have to get my son to order for me because she “ doesn’t understand me” food has been horrible lately too very greasy!!!!

I don’t know WHO they sold Penny’s to but it’s not the same. Now they selling spring rolls damn near $2 a piece and calling then egg rolls. 4 tiny spring rolls for $6. Ik know my money don’t mean anything to them but I wouldn’t return and I use to love this place. Smh

The subs are great and the asian food is hit or miss. Their pizzas have been getting worse in quality over the years and honestly wouldn't recommend. Their hours are iffy and times where they're closing or closed an hour or 2 two before they close. They also open late so it's a guessing game of when to go. It's just sad because this place use to be the best in town.

On the way in from work I decided to look for Chinese around the Oakboro area. I saw Penny’s. I wanted a simple order of sweet and sour chicken and beef, shrimp, and broccoli. Not a complicated order at all. After waiting 30 minutes I departed. After a 34 minute ride home, I opened my wife’s plate of sweet snd sour chicken that ultimately went straight to the trash. Who pours the sweet and sour sauce all over the chicken to let it sit? Really? This garbage was a soggy mess. Sure, I have a 34 minute ride home from Oakboro, but I have bought food in Matthews and it survived the hour long ride better than the mess I paid for at Penny’s. The sauce should never be poured on the chicken regardless of the time, it will be soggy in short order. I’ll add, my wife hates the sauce, so this was a failure in more than one way. I wasted around $14.00. You got me once, but it won’t happen twice. First and last.

Horrible!! We ordered a pizza and it literally took 45 min. to be brought out. We were told 10 min at least 4 times. The pizza was actually a good pizza, but 45 min. No way.Also, don't order the grilled chicken salad or any salad of that matter. If you do, you will receive a chicken breast on top of a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce, that's it. Really, that's it.

The menu was extensive. They have burgers, asian, pizza, mozzarella sticks, wings, chicken fingers, egg rolls,flounder sandwiches and more. It was great food. The resturant was clean and the staff was friendly.
