Looked at the fish and didn't take long to see multiple dead or dying fish in the tanks. My wife stopped counting at five tanks with multiple dead fish and left. I found a sixth tank seconds later and took the picture. A bunch of rosy red minnows stuck to the intake of a filter, dead or dying. Infecting the tank and making the rest of the fish sick. The stench of death permeates the air. I put back the stuff that I was planning to purchase and left. Never seen fish treated this badly. Its disgusting. Will not ever come back to this store.*edited to respond*You didn't read my review properly. That was the 6th tank, not the only one that we saw. We left before looking further.That picture shows a filter intake that those fish are stuck on. Its not because they are sick or it was a bad batch of fish, its because the suction on that filter is so hard that they can't get away so they get stuck and die there. The solution is to fix the intake, treat ALL your fish better, take responsability and not blame a supplier...

I didn't want to say anything but so many of the animals in this store are improperly cared for. Butterscotch's habitat was absolutely disgusting. The kittens and puppies cages are lack of any joy or enrichment, the size variations of leopard geckos and snakes cohabiting is despicable. The water bowls all riddled with algae. Not a single animal from the birds to the beardies looked happy. Don't get me started on the conditions of their small animals either. The store was being run by a group of teens on their phones not giving damn. Suddenly I don't feel bad for not shopping at private/family owned. This business is a puppy mill dispensary, if you have any morals or conscious you wouldn't shop here.

Butterscotch is not being cared for properly! There are no enrichments, and this poor snake has been there for YEARS! No branches, no greenery, no substrate. There should be something to mimic their natural environment. How would you like to live in a box so small you can’t even stretch out for years??And the “store pet”? A STORE is no life for a tortoise! They need to be outside where they can dig, eat grass, be given fresh veggies and flowers, not walking on concrete all day for YEARS! This place is so sad. Not sure if the alligator is still there, but he was showing signs of stress too, circling the tank, trying to jump, going back and forth in front of the glass.This needs taken care of or it needs reported. DO BETTER!

I just got back from BILLS PET SHOP and thought about if I was going to leave a review.After doing some extensive research at home about reptiles, I was in there today to purchase a new pet and pet supplies specifically a reptile and all the accessories needed to keep one. However when I arrived and walked directly to the reptile section to see what was in store. there was a family there browsing and I could over hear them asking questions after questions about how to keep one standing in front of the reptiles so I wasn’t able to see any of the lizards I went in there for. While I waited and waited the single staff member in the reptile section didn’t even acknowledge me no “good afternoon” no “I’ll be with you in a minute.” NOTHING. after about 25min of waiting and looking around without ANY acknowledgment from a single staff member in the store. I LEFT. I understand that people have questions but there needs to be a counter of an area for that while other customers can browse. There should be been some sort of acknowledgment from staff members.I’m very sad about this I prefer to deal with local small businesses but after my experience today I’m resorting to PETSMART to meet my needs.

I had been thinking about getting a ball python and went to Bill’s today. I didn’t get his name but the man who helped us was fantastic. He answered all of our questions and helped us get everything we needed. We ended up getting a pastel ball python and she is super healthy and beautiful. Would definitely recommend this place for all your pet needs!

Billy does the best job of trimming pets nails, always followed up with filing and never once close enough to hurt my pup. He's firm but gentle and she remains completely calm when he trims them. He's by far the most reasonable price too. No appointment needed, no wait line. I strongly recommend Billy to all of my friends and family.

i want to start by saying the staff is extremely helpful. they have amazing customer service. they are also very knowledgeable. i got my “german shepherd” from here and he is an amazing dog. i would give five stars but ever since we got him he has been having issues, took him to banfield and turned out he had hookworm eggs which is no big deal because they can get them from the mom. what i am not happy about is the price i paid for what turned out to be a sick not full blooded german shepherd. i would never trade him for the world but it did make me wonder where they are getting their puppies from. turns out the $1k+ i paid for a german shepherd turned out to be part chow chow and american bulldog. know what breeders they are getting their puppies from before buying. i really hope bills pet shop isn’t funding backyard breeders and puppy mills.

First let me start by saying that I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE for anyone that wants to have a healthy and living pet!My daughter and her husband, both military, Marines, they finally were able to build and purchase a home, which allows them to add a pet to their family, have purchased 2 dogs from this establishment and both purchased separate times, they both have passed, both pets showed no type of health issues , nor any health concerns that were ever voiced from this establishment, the first pet passed 2 or 3 weeks after purchasing, my daughter called me sobbing, screaming in so much pain and just could not believe it, the pet seemed healthy and nothing happened at home, well taken care , inside pet,loved, fed. The second pet , extremely pricey as well (thousands of dollars) English bulldog, sweet, loving, happy , looked and was sold as a “healthy dog”, a month later, passed on.That was my daughter’s, dream dog, a lovely female English bulldog, we called her Mia.I am so upset and disgusted as I can’t believe that this establishment, is obviously not being honest nor providing the proper health screens before selling a pet. My wish is that this establishment keep in mind that the pets are NOT an item for which they just make money and that is all, these pets are very much important and they go to good homes, both my daughter and my son in law are extremely responsible and animal lovers, they treat their pets as their babies, they do not travel, they are home daily, dogs were inside dogs, fed, played with, treated like their own children and is sad that both times they have not been able to keep and enjoy their pets as these pets were clearly sold with health issues!I am sad and also concern for any pets that this establishment has in their possession as is obvious they do NOT take proper care of them! My daughter has loss two pets Athena and Mia ,both from this establishment!I hope that this establishment does a better job prior to sending a pet home, that be not only with extensive health screens but also with their nutrition and diet, keep in mind ALWAYS , that if you have a customer that goes in to your establishment, is obviously because they are so much yearning for the ability to provide a loving home to a deserving pet! It is the Holidays and my poor daughter is extremely sad and stated that she is now so traumatized with the experience they have had not once but twice, keeping in mind this last one really hit her hard!YOU ALL NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB!!!! Also, if I could give 0 stars I definitely would!

Love this place! I come here almost every day to buy insects for my reptiles. The staff is very very kind, and friendly. And the prices are great. I also buy animals here all the time, they're always in healthy condition. I would definitely recommend this place, over Petsmart. Petsmart sells unhealthy animals that always die a few days later... The animals here are healthier than at PetSmart. Half the idiots that left low reviews are obviously clueless about Pet stores. Also, the employee named Summer is a super friendly young lady.🙂

This place is awful! The snakes live in downright filthy conditions! The tanks were full of urates/feces. Buttercup/butter scotch (the name was something like that) shes a huge burmese python, God bless that snake. She can't stretch out,has no type of hide...and yes even though she's big,in a proper enclosure she could have a hide. She has a bright heat lamp beaming on her...hopefully it's not on 24/7 because she can't thermo regulate like that, and if you know proper husbandry for snakes then you would know the living conditions for every snake in that place is unacceptable..The big snake is supposedly "loved" and shes not for sale.....well it looks like the store would buy her a proper enclosure. If you guys arent aware of how to get her something better,have a look at a custom made vision enclosures....they can make a nice tank for that snake and if you dont have the money(which im pretty certain you do) then contact me and i will help you buy her something! Unfortunately society doesn't care too much about snakes but if you have a half a heart,it will be broken when you look at the animals at this pet shop. I went into this store happy and left angry and in tears because I couldn't stand to see the suffering animals and the filthy conditions they were in.

Went in to look at ball pythons because I’ve looking into getting another one. This poor thing is severely dehydrated and underweight, it more than likely doesn’t have much longer. The way they keep their ball pythons is not proper and any snake keeper would know that. They need substrate that holds humidity and they need proper hides not just half logs where they are still clearly visible. They have nothing reading the temps or the humidity levels to make sure the snakes enclosures are good for them. Also keepers know that cohabitation is not recommended in the snake world and they have two snakes together in two of the tanks. Also multiple tanks had urate in them. Overall I left disgusted and sad for these poor snakes. And I so badly wanted to try and save the one I took a pic of but I could not give the owners $90 for a snake when they are the reason it’s in this condition and just so they can replace it with another to mistreat!

This is hands down the best pet shop around..locally owned business that has knowledgeable and friendly staff..they have a fantastic selection of fish and aquatic plants..it almost looks like an aquarium in there ..they have all kinds of cute cuddly and scaley pets...and the owner Bill was awesome and when i checked out he also had some homemade fresh honey that was bottled the day before ..let me tell you it was the best honey ive had anywhere ..if you are looking for pets and supplies please go there...i live 45mins away and i still will make the trip to shop here

This locally owned small business that takes great care of their customers and always have a great selection of pets. Ihave especially enjoyed the selection of African cichlids, the great saltwater fish and live coral selection they always have in stock. They have everything that you need to start a live reef tank and helped me in every step of the way when I started mine! I have done alot of business with the new bern store and cannot think of one bad experience! Mrs. Linda(one of the managers I think)is alot of the reason I've had a great relationship with bills pet shop!

Absolutely the most awful customer service experience ever! The tall caucasian male with glasses that is the night manager is the rudest individual. Former employees stated that he use to snap small animals necks to feed the snake and that is why they quit! The employees that stand around in a group by the register like this evening and refuse to assist. Where is Bill? I was a long time customer and I said WAS. Customer service is bad, prices are high and the live insects are half dead. No thank you. I do not recommend shopping here.

Decided to get my first conure from bills. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful in every way. Our bird is very friendly and social due to the amount of care they gave him/her. Decided to name him Samsun. We absolutely love our bird. Thank you so much. Best pet store I have ever been in.

Used the self dog bath stationMore expensive then tractor supply. Difficult to get dog into bath. No door on it and up high. Have a 60 lb dog. The towels, which is more expensive to use theirs (and wasn’t told that when I had called ahead), are old and stained badly. Some smelled bad also. Tractor supply uses white towels that are bleach and not stained. This was very disappointing for price I paid. Will go back to tractor supply.They need to step it up and get more professional

I appreciate the better quality foods they carry for dogs and cats but the reptile section in the back is a miserable place for any animal. The sight of that beautiful snake and alligator in those barren, tiny boxes made my heart shriek. I can’t imagine the frustration and misery those animals have to endure day in and day out.Please set them free at a sanctuary where they can carry out their last days in peace.

I really enjoyed coming to Bill's up until today. Yesterday my son purchased a ball python. I asked the employee what the return policy was and the girl told me I can return it as long as I have my receipt. Unfortunately my son father told him he could not keep the snake so today I went into Bill's to return the little guy with my receipt showing i purchased the snake the day before. I was told upon arriving that they did not return live animals. I proceeded to point out that I was told the day before by a employee that I could and also to its no where on the receipt and there are no signs stating that they do not return live animals, even their website does not state their return policy. The store manager was very rude about the situation and eventually offered a store credit. A store credit would of been fine if I lived close by which I proceeded to explain to the manager we live a hour and half away its not like we come to Bill's on the regular. I would have gladly shown him my license to prove that we came a long way just to shop at Bills. In the end I didn't want my son to loose out on his money altogether so we accepted the store credit and the situation basically forced my son into getting a pet he didn't really want. Bills really need to make a sign stating their return policy and also train all their employees on the return policy. After this situation we will not be returning to Bills pet shop in the future.
