I have attended academy sports multiple times since I've lived in New Bern. They always have up-to-date merchandise that is relevant to the current season. Their prices are fairly competitive, and sometimes they are extremely competitive. The layout is sensible, never spent terribly long here. Check out is easy and if you buy large items they will bring it out to your vehicle.I wish they had a better way to order things to the store that they didn't physically have, from inside the store itself. More integration with their website would be delightful.All in all, I continue to shop here, and I have yet to have a bad experience.

This morning, I went to our local store for a simple exchange. There was a short line. No big deal. But it was my turn, the cashier was friendly, professional, and helpful. There was some issues on my part which she sorted quickly. I'm sure there will be a long line of exchanges and returns today. If it goes as smoothly and quickly as it did with me, Academy Sports will get my vote every single time! Great service in the New Bern location!

My wife bought some hey dudes while they were on sale and we needed to exchange them for a smaller size. So we go back to exchange them for a smaller pair of the EXACT SAME SHOE, the women helping us complained about an issue with receipt, and then proceed to return and refund the original shoes just to then try and charge us $15 more than my wife originally paid. Woman claimed the sale was over and wouldn’t or couldn’t understand we had asked to exchange not refund and continued to argue that these were more expensive because we were purchasing them after the sale. Thankfully I was present to stop my wife from having to pay $15 more for a smaller pair of the same shoes she had purchased a week before, but we will not be back to purchase anything from this store again. Some of the worst customer service I’ve experienced.

I enjoy shopping at Academy. Large variety of clothing, shoes, sporting, camping goods and fun items. Unfortunately they did not have the size I needed to purchase a North Face Antora jacket for my granddaughter.

I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars due to the limited selection of clothing and shoe brands, also some of the store associates aren't as friendly and eager to help BUT if you get the right associate like Scott, you'll have a pleasant shopping experience if you have questions, like I did. I've purchased many items here i.e. bike, bike accessories, sports wear for my 2 young men, bullets for a .380 I have and most recently a wagon. Overall Academy Sports has a little of everything for everyone!

Nice store. Associates were friendly and helpful. Plenty of selection. Thought would over priced bit found some eye opening deals. Brooks shoes selection was plentiful and they had colors/models I had seen. Cost were on par with Amazon but you could buy today. No delivery wait. Lol

I've been searching for the right hand gun to buy for concealed carry. Not being familiar with all of the choices I have to research. I thought I had decided what I wanted. I wish I remembered the name of the man who assisted me at the gun counter. After explaining to him my objective he went into education and explaining mode. He used to teach the concealed carry class in Tennessee so he knew what he was talking about, he knew what I needed to know and told me additional info that I feel was very helpful. He took his time, he explained each one and allowed me time to hold them and become familiar with each one. I ended up not buying one that night. Corporate might not be pleased with that. When I do finalize my decision I will purchase my gun from Academy. Their prices are very competitive and they have sales every week. I pray I never need to use it other than target shooting but I would rather not need it but have it than to need it and don't have it.

I buy tents from Academy Sports all the time. There have been several times that my tents broke because the wind just broke them by just standing there. I put the tent back inside of the case that came out of I take it back they scan it and let me get another tent no questions asked. I always go there to buy the things that I need for my outdoor business. I recommend them highly

Love this store... could spend a mortgage payment in here.... only problem is depending on what time of day you go is how much help you can get.... lack of product knowledge is an issue also, but they have a wide variety of products

Academy Sports, has a tremendously high quality performance merchandise.If you have a young sports athlete or your passion is fishing ,you need to visit their establishment! It's filled almost to the rafters with, safety equipment, footwear, clothing and many other items, all with excellent prices.The store is very clean,& customer's satisfaction comes first! Returns are very easy.Restrooms are well kept, small amount of time, waiting,if any.Prices are very moderate, enjoy your visit. Afterwards, yll please visit, one of our local restaurant's in the area....

Great store I have to save myself has everything Under One Roof that deals with sporting indoors and Outdoors grilling indoors and Outdoors camping fishing this store has it all Under One Roof the name itself says it all. But the only issue I had what this particular location. I told my son to go pick out two pair of shoes $100 pair and one $40 pair. So he did! Well after arriving at the cashiers location presenting her with the products to be purchased come to find out the shoes that showed had $39 and some change happened to be $69 and some change but me as a customer I don't look at skus is the first thing the young lady look for when I showed her the picture of the product and where it's at. The shoes depicted in the picture below are the black and white ones.

I thought the Employees were very nice and it is not their fault if there is confusion on what item were on sale or not on sale. I do believe the Store Managers should have things marked better which items have sale prices, so similar items (different patterns) are not mistaken by the customer to be a sale item too. So, please do not take it out on the cashiers, they work hard too.

Had a great time just perusing almost every aisle. If you can't find it here for sporting goods, it may not exist!We ended up snagging a new dog bed that was $15 less than our beloved Big Box store.I was there to primarily to check out some cool camping gear. I wasn't disappointed. Kinda like an amusement park midway, I can't wait to go back!

There is a great variety of sporting goods. They have great accessories at fair prices. The staff acted as if I was not in their way and they actually wanted to help everyone. That is becoming a rare thing in retail in my experience.

If you're in NC and looking for a firearm make sure not to go to New Bern while the manager Alex is working at least. So I purchased a glock 19 and drove a hour and a half, this gentleman refused to sell me a firearm after paying and presenting valid government ID. When asked if my id had the address where I was staying I said no but it's a legal and current residence. The gentleman didn't even run my information to let the system decide. Instead he told me he didn't need my social security along with many many other false statements such as "I need to know the address where you are sleeping at tonight in order to sell you a firearm." I went elsewhere in town and bought a glock 47 m.o.s with much less headache. My seller elsewhere was kind, safe, and courteous. He ran my information and sold me the weapon. Everything about the transaction was legal, safe, and informative.

I love this store, however. Lately the selection of fishing lures has been less than desirable. The racks seem to stay emptier than usual. Has me wondering what is going on with their inventory. I love the H2O brand but there are fewer and fewer in stock each time I go in.

I’ve spent hundreds of dollars with the company. From clothes, sports gear, and etc. I went to purchase my 3rd firearm and was totally discriminated against. The rep asked for my ID & Permit. But walked over to a gentleman whom wasn’t with me asking what firearm was I purchasing . He never gave me the chance to talk he said he didn’t want to sell me a firearm which is protocol they don’t if they want to. But his reasoning was because “ I’m purchasing firearms for someone else” which justifies him discriminating against me based off the first scenario with his assumptions thinking the guy was with me. Mind you he has dreads and I am a black 23 year old female. I will no longer have dealings with the company I even have a credit card I just opened . Soon as it comes in I will cut it up. I can go else where and spend my money without feeling discriminated against.

Great experience there shopping with son. A nice lady Kaitlin, I believe, took her time to help select a rod and reel. Got assistance from another employee to put line on the reel. Showed him how to use it. Awesome service!
