Omg! We just moved down the street from this awesome place. I went in for something for lunch. What!?? Homemade sandwiches? Today we tried the Italian subs. Phenomenal. I ordered dinner for tonight as it was chicken parm casserole night. I picked them up later and reheated for dinner. Oh my! It also came with garlic bread and a salad! What a wonderful place! We are never leaving Murphy and I may never cook again!

Love this place!!! The service is always great. Their Mayfield Whitehouse cherry vanilla ice cream is the absolute best! Whenever I'm up at Tipton Creek visiting friends, I do not hesitate to take the thirty minute drive down the mountain daily for three scoops and a waffle cone.😋🍦

We visited Hanging Dog for a snowy weekend and this store is great. We weren’t sure about “gas station food” but decided to take a chance on the pizza and wings here and wow, it was really good. The pizza was as good as any delivery pizza I’ve ever had, and the wings were tender and flavorful. I recommend calling ahead if you want whole pizzas. I ordered and waited but it was worth the wait. The gentleman who was there both times (the owner?) was super nice and helpful. If I ever make it back to HD, I’ll be glad to know there’s a shop like this with everything I need. Thank you!

We were on a visit to bald River Falls and somehow came out at this store. We felt so Welcomed. Service was outstanding and their milkshakes were amazing. Super friendly staff love the story of how community got its name.

If you live in Hanging Dog and don't frequent the HDGS, what in the world are you waiting for? The people are spectacular, they are real and everyone is family. Their sandwich counter is tops. Burgers, num num, breakfast sandwich...none better and the pizzas omg, thin crust is best...imho!! Did I mention the hand dipped ice cream that can also be turned into a delicious creamy milkshake?? If you don't live in Hanging Dog, come to the GS anyway, I give you a personal guarantee you will not be disappointed!

When you live as far from town as we do, we down here in Beaverdam are so thankful to have Hanging Dog General Store!! They carry most anything you could possibly want. The staff are always super nice and it is always smelling clean when you walk in (unless pizza is cookin'!! Then it smells tasty 😋)☺️ Love this little store and the staff, and we are so very thankful to have it in our community!!

Hanging Dog General Store is a gem in the Great Smokey Mountains. This family run business is a place of community within the town of Hanging Dog, NC. The food is great, as is the employees that serve it up! If you are lucky enough to find yourself in the area of Murphy, NC this is not a place to be missed and hopefully you are lucky enough to meet Rachal who will welcome you with open arms and a big smile!

This is by far one of the best stores around. It’s perfect for our small town and they have some of the best ice cream ever. The people who work there are absolutely sweet and it’s like they know everyone and they’re always so friendly

A real life, true-in-the-Americana lil General Store success story..! Tucked away on lil Hanging Dog Road & relying on locals to survive.. It does my heart good to see America where it persevers, takes root & grows...But, Hanging Dog General Store would not survive without the quality & value they serve up to their customers/community.. Yes, their Ice Cream & Coffee are great but so is their Breakfast, Lunch sandwiches & a growing list of basic home needs...Please stop in & pay a visit - they are good people & proud Americans.. For a general store without a true grill this place is great, pizza and burgers are tasty and the buns and veggies are super fresh, grab a cookie or a hand scooped Mayfield ice cream, very friendly, tell them the tv shiner sent you
