Such a decline from years ago. I recently moved back to the Mooresville area after being away over 10 years. In the past, I had bought nearly all my aquarium fish at Sea Shell. They cost a bit more than the chains, but I was willing to pay that premium to get healthier stock and support local small business. Now that I have settled again, I am planning tanks. I went into Sea Shell to browse and discuss plans/ideas. I was so disappointed. While the employee on duty was very nice and willing to be accommodating and order whatever I wished, the store itself was in shambles compared to what I remember. The smells from the small animal cages was overpowering. Most of the fish tanks were empty. I can understand it doesn't make financial sense to stock fish if you can't sell them, but the tanks themselves were in a deplorable state. Dirt, algae, general disarray- I question the health of the few fish left. I'm sad to see that this place has declined so much, and while I really do wish I could support them and order my stock through them, I simple can't trust that the fish would be kept in healthy conditions until I picked them up.

6-1-2014I've only purchased fish from here, and snails for the pond: goldfish, catfish (channel cat) and more goldfish. I originally thought my first goldfish were gone, disappeared after I put them in my backyard pond. After a year, the 3 fish I bought reappeared, healthy and bigger than before. My pond is in part to full shade and it is about 16 ft. x 10 ft. snf 3 feet or a little more deep in the middle. I thoroughly enjoy this pet shop and the fish/advice/fish food and gadgets I've bought there. Got 3 more goldfish yesterday. They'd just gotten in some pretty gold and white ones, 2 of which were pretty big. They greeted me this morning, all three of the new guys with their new friends trailing behind them. Haven't seen all of them at once yet but looking forward to it someday. I've had only good experiences with this pet shop.Update: May 20, 2015Changing my review to 5 stars. I've gotten only a couple more fish here, but lots of plants for my pond. They are health and multiply, too. The goldfish I bought last year had babies! Wow. Lots of good experiences with this store.

Absolutely terrible! I don't know how this store has managed to stay in business for this long. You walk into the store and you're hit with this awful smell. All pet stores have a certain smell of course but the smell here makes petsmart look like bath and body work. All of the products and shelving are covered in think layers of dust, dirt, and god knows what else. The place just looks run down in every area. The outside, floors, shelving, animal enclosures, EVERYTHING. To make things worse, the animals are in terrible conditions. Especially the mice and rats. There are far too many of them crowded into a small dirty tank. And I witnessed some thin looking rats eating a few of their still ALIVE and moving tank mates! Once I asked the woman there where they got their puppies from and she was reluctant to answer. Which leads me to believe that they came from puppy mills or some place similar. They don't have anything here that you won't find at some nicer more popular brand stores. I think the only okay thing about this store is the funny talking bird they have there. Other than that I'd give this place -5 starts if I could.

Incredibly friendly and helpful lady greeted us. The selection of cats and dogs are small. We bought her only 2 cats at the time... but they were very healthy and are great family pets. I am glad she has a small selection instead of being a pet "mill". Prices on animals and items were fair and she promised they would be healthy.

Place should be shut down!!! I went with my daughter (19 years old) when we went to the post office across the street. We have lived in Mooresville for 11 years and thought we would check out the place. I am redoing my 100 gallon fish tank and when we walked in the SMELL almost knocked out us. DIRTY / MUSTY and fish tanks are so loaded with overgrown plants and algae and most fish were and are in VERY POOR CONDITION!! I am an avid fish lover of 25+ years and was horrified to see this in a pet shop! We then walked towards the hamsters and mice and the mice had like 50 in one small tank laying on each other and trying to jump out. I spoke with the lady who is the owner and she has owned the place for like 35+ years, and it's a shame that she can no longer take care of it, as I am sure that was her passion many moons ago, but I expect to go back in shortly and if it still that way, then I plan on calling the authorities on her to have it shut down or at least complain enough to get something filed. No animal should be in the conditions in which we saw them the day we entered that store.

This is not a troll post by any means.I used to love going into sea shell pets exp as a kid, but here lately you couldn't pay me to. I am big into the reptile scene so I go in for the occasional feeder etc, now I won't even stop for that. Last week I stepped in to take the kids to the petshop, only finding Nasty cages and unhealthy animals. For instance a bearded dragon with no heat lamp and being fed iceberg lettuce, anyone knows that's terrible and somehow didn't die the short amount of time it spent in this hell hole. I found a veiled chameleon with serious mbd and terrible husbandry conditions as well. Over populated rats that look terrible, kittens that looks like they were found in a gutter, mutts being sold for high prices and sold as pure beds. The only animals I have been pushed to buy were because I felt so bad for them being there but that stops because I won't go back ever again and like I said I've been going there for up to 20 years. One last thing we all know sea shells has been awesome in the fish department, have you seen the fish lately? Barely any salt water fish and the ones they have look unhealthy in super dirty tanks, freshwater sure you have some but there either unhealthy or overpriced on bad examples of each specie.Sorry Ruth and Franky for writing such a bad reveiw but I think it's time to close those doors and sell this place off!

First time checking this place out. This shop is filthy. The fish tanks are all in desperate need of cleaning. Dirty animal crates. Far too many mice crammed into small cages together. Health of some animals looked questionable. I would never purchase anything here and will not be back.

I've gone to sea shell pet shop for almost three years and I loved them. I bought a fiery belly toad there and it was in a very good condition every thing is cheap, and all the animals are in good health. Their crickets are huge, in pet co when I got a bag of crickets almost all of the crickets died. When I moved somewhere else I gave my frog and gueni pigs to them the lady promised she would take good care of them and she gave me dog treats for my dog.The costumer service is great and I love it there. I wish there was a Awesome Pet store, star button! And all those people who say it's horrible probably haven't even been there, sooooo, you can go to pet co and just suck up the horribleness while I stick with sea shell pet shop. SUCK IT UPPPP

DO NOT BUY A PET from here. I purchased a bunny for my son and it died about 3 hrs later. The bunny was fine until my son put him in his cage. He went back 30 mins later and the bunny was lying on its side, stiff with eyes wide open. Now we have 2 older rabbits and they have always been very healthy. This bunny was by himself. I called the pet store and the owner answered. I told her what happened and she immediately accused me of killing the rabbit. She said her rabbits were perfectly healthy and it was my son's fault for holding him too much. We hold our rabbits all the time! She was very rude and accusitory. She stated "Well I guess I'll have to replace it. But it will be Monday morning because we r about to close." I only live about 10 minutes away and didn't want my son (age 5) to know the bunny had died so I asked if they would wait until I got there and she said no. They were tired and wanted to go home. I had to find an individual on the internet that had some bunnies for sale that looked like the other one. I called the Pet store owner on Monday morning and explained I already purchased another rabbit and was afraid to take another one from her store incase it was ill and would make my other rabbits ill. She was very offended and RUDE RUDE RUDE. She hung the phone up on me. I called back 3 times trying to tell her that I will just take another bunny and keep it seperated. She hung up on me 3 times after accusing me of "killing the rabbit." I will never buy another thing from this pet shop. I warn anyone that potentially wants to purchase anything from here. Things happen with rabbits, reptiles etc. I understand. Even PetSmart offeres a 14 day return policy just in case. No one knows when it comes to these animals. It's not a dog! She was just rude and accusitory!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!

This place could use a little TLC, but I still love it. Great opportunity for some volunteer work, that would help a local small business. I got my cat here 8yrs ago and she's still thriving. Also purchased dozens of fish.

The place was so dirty, there were frozen fish, and dead mice and overall it felt disgusting. It felt like someone’s garage threw up and a pet store and it was called seas shell pet shop. Never again will I ever visit unless the place is shut down

As a kid i would always beg my mom to go to this pet shop. I am now a mother myself. My 4 year old wanted to go look at pets. When we arrived and walked in we were not greeted their were no dogs or cats. Their was a boxer running free however and she told us he was nice and not to worry. My daughter approached the dog after i gave her permission thinking the dog was nice. The dog then bites my daughter and wont let go. I start yelling at the dog as he is tearing my daughters shirt. The woman whom worked there stared and didnt say a word to the dog. I didnt want the dog to get more aggressive so i try to pet the dog to get him off my daughter. At this point i look at the woman throw my hands up and tell her to control the dog as i threaten to call the police. She seems as if everything is fine and ask if we need assitance with anything defending the dog smiling saying he is playful. Your dog is attacking my daughter! I grabbed my daughter and we left abruptly before i went off on this woman. I will not return to this pet shop!!

Arrived before 4:30pm, store sign reads CLOSED despite their hours supposedly being until 5:00pm (car sitting outside, guess owners were still inside counting their cash for the day), kinda rink-a-dink looking outside not very inviting. Not worth the trip if you can't even get inside.

I have been going to Sea Shell for years and they are wonderful people who care about their animals. I like supporting a local business rather than the large corporations as well.

Went by yesterday at 11 (hours posted were 9-5) and they were closed. Went by today again at 11, still closed. Every time I’ve been in before all of the animals look sick. Very unprofessional.

Poor care for animals. Fish tanks are black and the store should not carry any live animals period!

Arrived at 4:33pm and already closed with no notification of why they were already closed. Had a plaque on the door that had their hours too but nothing letting people know why they closed early without notice.
