Cute little bakery, grocery, deli and restaurant rolled into one. We needed some supplies and wandered about for a while enjoying the vast array of items from wine, beer, bread, cheese, olive oils and jams. Such a quaint establishment with friendly staff. A must, for visitors to Highlands who need toothpaste and bread. Their homemade soups are delicious and taste like my mom's. That's pretty impressive and hard to do. Love this place!

It's sort of surprising that the best breakfast restaurant I have ever been to is actually a grocery store in Highlands, NC. Seriously, the French toast is 2 inches thick and served with real maple syrup. This is a legitimate breakfast. Also, the pizza here is better than the "fancy" pizza restaurant down the street. Also, great grocery store.

Best bottled vinegars. Wish they delivered. It's a 9 hour drive, but it's so worth it.. staff was great , bottled on site for a flavor that wasn't on the shelves. They even weighted the bottle so i could put them in my checked luggage without going over the weight limit on the airline. Also, I grabbed some French fries while waiting....amazing

We love this place. I got the grilled chicken sandwich- and my guys got the homemade pizza. It was all really good. I also got a pecan pie for thanksgiving and it was delicious! If you want specialty items they have a butcher - meat market - wide selection of wines- to go fresh dips - chicken salads - pizza and bakery.

Good NY-style pizza? Absolutely. Snafu with the order… no bueno. When the cook mis-reads the 16” order as a 10”, don’t justify the error… offer the 10” as an apology while the customer waits for the 16” they already paid for. There weren’t many customers today… and we saw no one with pizza. We waited 20 mins only to be told about the error AND THEN we had to wait AGAIN for the 2nd pizza. (Ordered at 12:01pm pizza came some time after 12:40.) 2ndly, why a cardboard box for an eat-in order? Thoughts to ponder.

I got the chicken sandwich. It was a little bland for me. The chips were good. Hubby got the hamburger. He ordered it medium well but it was raw. He had to send it back. Second burger was cooked right. He said is was just ok. He loved the homemade fries. It is a little pricey here so we expected better flavors.

I've always appreciated this establishment, but my recent experience was disappointing due to unfriendly service. This market has a nice place in the back where you can order drinks, food and etc. I had an encounter with a bartender who seemed unhappy and overly authoritative, akin to Barney Fife. Despite approaching an empty bar and being face-to-face with the bartender right in front of me, I was instructed to move and order from a different location which was less convenient for both of us. (note: I ordered from this same place a year ago from a bartender who was very friendly and normal acting). Not wanting to cause a scene, I quietly obliged with a smile on my face and ordered from the requested location. Once I paid for the drinks, I was ordered to move to yet another location to pick up the drinks. I once again obliged, but it seemed overly procedural given I was the only person ordering anything at the time. I ordered two drinks and wanted to share them with other family members since we were in a bit of a hurry, as we expected to be called for a dinner reservation within the next 20-30 minutes at a nearby restaurant. My 81 year old mother-in-law requested a plastic glass so we could share the drinks. Upon pouring part of a drink into the plastic glass that we were given by a member of the store’s staff, the person who gave us the plastic glass was scolded by the bartender. He then tried appease the agitated bartender by attempting to confiscate the drink from my elderly mother-in-law. This was both confusing and embarrassing for her. Ultimately, she talked the person into letting her finish the drink and we promptly left thereafter as we were called for our reservation. As we walked out, we noted the two staff members talking about us as if we had committed some sort of a felony. The whole episode was strange and surreal. Unfortunately, we will probably not return on our next visit to Highlands. Bye, bye Barney Fife!

It is a quaint lilPlace, it mostly has fine wines, delicious deli delights, whole bean speciality coffees ☕️, Butcher Meats, Grab & Go salad ( Egg, Pimento Cheese , salmon spreads, heat and eat items such as for evening meals...then small typical grocery items, they have speciality beers 🍻, farm fresh eggs 🥚, flavored infused Olive oils, it has a pizza 🍕 section along with a warm hand held sandwich Cafe with dine in available...bathrooms lacked in cleanliness...the floors are on the needed cleaning and they need to dust the place...the staff has that southern charm to them everyone... when you come here, you will have to take the time and look around...lots to see and lots to choose from...look at my pictures they self explain of what you may encounter...Happy trails to you...The SmithClan

Had breakfast here both days that we stayed in town. This is a cute, up-scale grocery store with a large fresh/prepared foods section (pretty much a restaurant). It offers quite a few nice options for breakfast at a moderate price. Nice atmosphere and good selection of upscale food and drinks to browse. It wasn’t overly busy either time we were there but still took about 10-15 minutes to get our food, so I can image it would take a while during peak times. The oatmeal was good with fresh fruit on top, just be sure to ask for it without syrup unless you like it really sweet (it also has brown sugar). Overall, a nice place to stop for a quick-ish bite to eat for breakfast or lunch or if you need food supplies.Positives: Good selection of breakfast and lunch food at the cafe, nice upscale grocery, espresso bar.Negatives: A little slow and expensive.

Delicious! It’s my go-to place for brunch while staying in the Highlands. Biscuits and gravy, pancakes, omlette and hash browns, french toast…

We purchased 2 chicken pot pies for 25$ each. They were by far the worst chicken pot pies I’ve ever eaten. They had NO filling… it was essentially 2 puff pastries with a couple pieces of veggies and chicken between them. Thank god I bought some Tabasco sauce from this overpriced market because it was the only drop of moisture in the entire meal. I used to eat “Banquet” branded pot pies in college for 1$ a piece. I should have bought 50 of those for the same price and had 20X the food. What an absolute joke this place is…. This place gouges you and takes advantage of the clientele because they’re willing to pay more while away from home. On a scale of 1-100 I’d give these pot pies a 6. The only reason I give a 6 is my body still digested it and at least my family had something to eat. SCAM

This place was really busy. I love the idea of all the different options to choose from, as well as the fresh produce and eclectic groceries. We tried 2 pizzas, and they were absolutely delicious. The workers were very friendly and made great selections.

What a gem of a place! From groceries, pizza, beer and wine, coffee bar, homemade meals, to their fresh grille. We enjoyed breakfast and lunch here during our weekend in Highlands. Prices very reasonable and staff very friendly.

For what this is, it's amazingly excellent. But you don't want to expect a grocery store. They have about as much essential staples (sugar, salt, fresh produce, generic snacks) as either a well-stocked gas station or a lousy Walgreens. What they do have is an excellent bar service, one of the best breakfasts I've ever had (recommend the corned beef and hash) and a great exotic wine/beer/cheese selection. Come here if you want a meal or you really need those *good* cherries for an old-fashioned. Service is impeccable, food is undeniable.

Cool spot, deli is good. Bakery is good, fairly impressive wine variety with bottles for every palate ($10-$500). Not the biggest selection of true supermarket/ convenience store items.

Really neat gourmet food store and restaurant. Wait time a little long during lunch time but very relaxing upbeat atmosphere. I had a cheddar and roast beef sourdough panini, so delicious and loaded up with meat cheese and onions. Side salad left something to be desired. Employees are very friendly. Got a pumpkin spice late from coffee barista that really made my visit to this shop.

Ate here for breakfast this past weekend! The food was soooo delicious. I ordered the French Toast with apple slices and maple pepper bacon! The pieces of toast were ginormous. The syrup that comes with the french toast and pancakes is more of a honey based syrup which was actually really tasty as well! When we got there we had to wait in line for about 25 minutes before we got to the cash register to order, however, we got our food within 10 minutes which was really great considering it was Labor Day weekend. We will definitely be adding this place to our list of places to eat in Highlands, NC! Keep up the awesome work Mountain Fresh Grocery

Love this store, bakery, coffee bar, pizza area, good lunch, and dinner options with restaurant in downtown Highlands. The food is excellent. Large number of made-on-premise takeaway items from meat dishes, sides, and desserts. Staff are very friendly. Grocery has all the essentials, but not a full grocery store. Overall, it is a great moderately priced hangout spot.
