Stopped in for a couple of shakes during this hot North Carolina summer day. It was cool that this is an old style, you order outside. They have a couple of benches to enjoy your treats but we just got them to go to enjoy on the road. The outside could use a little trash pick up bit overall appears to be a clean facility. They were nice when ordering but short. This could just be because they had continuous customers.

Absolutely without a doubt the best ice-cream ever. Our family has been going to Southwest Hickory's DQ for about 60 yrs. My parent's took us. I took my children. Now my kids are taking their kids. We all love it!!

Old school dairy Queen. This doesn't have anything but the cold sweet side. No burgers or anything. Also closed during the winter so check they are open. But the ice cream is delicious and the customer service is nice.

It's the only DQ in Hickory and it's only open seasonally. They re-open on the first day of spring but do not have the spring seasonal treats (or they have limited spring offerings). They're closed over winter, so obviously never have the coveted peppermint treats. The younger staff are always pleasant and helpful, while the older staff are terse and unpleasant. I've order Blizzard Cakes from here and they've always been great, as have all of the Blizzards, Cup Cakes, and other delicious treats we've gotten from here. Adequate parking (usually), abysmal seating; you'll have to sit in your car or go elsewhere to enjoy your treats generally.

Great as expected!We brought our dog with us. They give a free "pup cup" on a certain day. I don't remember what day it is but our pup loved her first ice-cream.

Perfect little spot to pull off and get your fav ice cream treat. There can be quite a crowd at times, but they are pretty fast and operate efficiently. It never takes too long for whatever you order to be ready. Great nostalgic date night idea. Sit on the back of a pickup truck and eat ice cream cones watching the sun go down on a summer night.

It was pouring rain on our visit so the awning was a definite help. There's a large menu with lots of choices. We got a hot fudge brownie Sunday I'm not sure if that's what they call it but it was so good. Also in my family we got a regular vanilla cone which was devoured and a Oreo brownie sundae and that was also a big hit. Would highly recommend and we'll be visiting again.

I've been coming to this place for years and its been great every time! Though when I went this time, the new employee got my order wrong, which was fine! The manager however, tried to push the wrong item on me, which wasn't appreciated, then seemed to fuss at the employee who took our order, unacceptable. In food service, mishearing/misunderstanding the customer happens, especially if you're new and unfamiliar with things. But i found the old lady that seemed to be the manager made a big fuss about it in front of my girlfriend and I, which was totally unnecessary and inappropriate! Wrong orders happen all the time in food services. And instead of making and unnecessary deal out of it or trying to push an item i didnt want onto me, she should have just said sorry and moved on! Again, great staff, just disrespectful management. Hopefully in the future, management will actually try to be helpful towards their staff rather than be pushy and rude. Again this review has nothing to do with the amazing staff working or the ice cream (which is always amazing), but simply how i saw this manager treat her staff, completely uncalled for! The new kid who took our order was so sweet and polite and i hope he knows that he was doing a great job, as well as the girl who remade my ice cream!

This is my favorite Dairy Queen location. They only serve desserts..no cheeseburgers, hot dogs, etc. The building is very old, built in the late 40's or early 50's, it sits smack dab in the middle of a parking lot and honestly it looks kinda crappy BUT don't let that fool you. The inside is very clean, they have a high sanitation score and the desserts are DELICIOUS!! You order at the window outside and you can sit out there to eat your treats or take your treats with you. They don't have a dining room but, to me, that's part of the experience of this classic place! Try it out, you'll be glad you did!

My husband and I have been coming to this DQ for over 5 years. Today, 7/11/21, we experienced the rudest, meanest, unhappy redhead ever at this location. We may give circus hall of cream for ice cream with a smile next time.

I love coming to Dairy Queen. The staff is always pleasant, friendly and helpful. Pat does an excellent job making sure her customers are always happy and satisfied. Very clean and the ice cream is soooo delicious. Treat yourself to a special treat and go visit Dairy Queen.

Great place. Wish there were other locations within Catawba County. This place is located in an odd and out of the way / off the beaten path. But, once you get there...it is nice. Could use an update with better parking.

I usually try not to complain but my husband drove an hr. Out of our way to go to Dairy Queen only to have a very unpleasant greeting by both workers, the older lady obviously should be the Lead and with that I tried to justify the younger girls behaviour and then to top it off my husband reads a sign that says "if your blizzard isn't handed to you upside down the next one is free" well his came out the right wrong way and then mine was pushed toward me as if I should be thankful I just spent almost 15$ on 2 cups of ice cream that clearly were lacking in expertise of making, although I have to wonder if it was so poorly put together from spite..I wish people that don't have the knack for service would stay at home instead of accepting my hard earned money with a bad attitude..

I get the same thing I always get everytime I go to Dairy Queen so I know how it should taste like every single time. Unfortunately this time I get my usual "New York strawberry cheesecake" and no offense to the little lady but it was made wrong. The ice cream was more gramcracker than it was ice cream, in fact there was so much gramcracker that my ice cream is brown. Ate what I could stomach cause I didn't wanna waste it but ended up throwing away the rest.Edit: just looking at the comments and funny thing is that the little girl that did my ice cream was a red head. Maybe all these recent bad reviews is because of a certain little someone.

We love this old-fashioned Dairy Queen with a walk up window. Only open during the March - November. Worth the stop! Easy stop off if I-40.

You can't sit inside because the building is not made for it. However, this place has great ice cream and Blizzards! Yummy. In the evening be prepared to wait a little bit but only a couple minutes.
