This was my first experience with a Bed and breakfast. Being recently married my wife and I were looking for something fun, fresh and exciting to do. What a marvelous experience! Marti, Stormy and Kim were so welcoming and made our stay so nice. I really loved the museum tours that Marti had every morning.after breakfast. They were so informative. We could see the passion as Marti delivered such a great presentation and provide facts that only years of research could bring to the table. Thank you so much for a wonderful 3 night stay. We look forward to visiting again!

My wife and I stayed for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. We were created by Chef Marti who immediately made us feel welcome. We were shown to the "Polynesian Room" which has a Japanese inspired decor. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was clean. Each morning we stayed, we were treated to a delicious home cooked breakfast. A tour of the inn was provided as Chef Marti has collected several historical pieces over his tenure. He has created his own museum and is a wealth of knowledge. The town of Grover is quaint but not much of a night life. The areas of Shelby and Kings Mountain have some great restaurants and attractions. Kings Mountain National Military Park is a 10 minutes drive from the Inn. It has some great hiking and scenic views. The Inn of the Patriots is a great destination to recharge your batteries. Check this place out for your next getaway.

Happy to say I enjoyed a great stay in the Baby Ruth room too, we found everything we needed and more in this historic home. Marti and Stormie both were gracious and we felt right at home. Not to mention a happy, happy breakfast with a myriad of options. I think the homemade ketchup and locally sourced sausage were my favorite. Can't wait to go back:)

This was our first B&B stay and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We bought the Living Social deal for 2 nights and Chef Marti's cooking class. The first night we showed up a little late and Chef Marti showed us around and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and I really enjoyed the social nature of it more than I thought I would. It was very interesting getting to know all of the other guests and finding out how we had all come to the same place. I can't say enough about Chef Marti's cooking class. I'm not much of a chef, but I loved learning how to make creme brule, hummus and an excellent steak salad. It's the best 3 hours I've spent in a long time. In between activities we went and explored King Mountain Military Park and State Park, which is literally minutes away. Our room was clean and very comfortable. I loved how the toilet and shower were tucked away in old closets so that we could have our own private "bathroom." They don't make rocking chair porches any better than the one at the Inn. We spent the evening after our cooking class, sharing wine and stories with the folks we had met during our stay. On the way home we checked out Owl's Eye Winery and Baker's Buffalo Creek Winery. Both were really friendly with great wines. We went home with several bottles. I would definitely recommend this whole trip to anyone!

Outstanding visit with fellow submariner. Marti was a great host. We stayed in the Baby Ruth room which was very comfortable and well appointed. My wife and I really like the eclectic feel with all the memorabilia. Breakfast was very good and the history tour was very interesting. We will definitely be going back for another visit.

Impulsively knocked on the door and was thrilled they had a vacancy! I stayed in the Polynesian Room and was amazed at the attention to detail. A mosquito net was luxuriously draped over the bed so that it appeared to be a canopy bed. There were all kinds of knickknacks in room that gave it just the right feel. The bed and breakfast is owned by two former White House chefs. There are beautiful display cabinets everywhere, and an actual museum in the basement. Two things surprised me- the opulent dignity of the surroundings and the friendliness of the owner, Marti.Although Marti can tell some amazing stories, it turns out he is a warm-hearted Italian who has never met a stranger- and he welcomes you into his home like you are a long-lost cousin. The cost of a room is very reasonable, and the experience was priceless! And the food! Oh my! They make their own sausage, jam and more. I was greeted with French press coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, homemade granola, perfectly cooked thick bacon and eggs with home fries, watermelon and kiwi. It was so good that I would drive there just for the food.I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!

This is a truly unique bad and breakfast! The owner was a chef at the White House. Each room has a theme based on somewhere the innkeepers were stationed when they were in the Navy. The house is over 100 years old so the bathrooms are small, but the home has been wonderfully restored. In addition, there are Presidential memorabilia everywhere which Chef Marti explains in a guided tour. What a wonderful chef and tour guide he is! Of course, the breakfasts are great, too.

We had a wonderful experience at the Inn of the Patriots. The house is amazing, and the rooms very comfortable. Chef Marti gave us an amazing cooking class and tour. The family is very hospitable, and it was enjoyable to interact with the other guests. The breakfasts were the best we have ever experienced at a B&B by far. Highly recommended.

The hospitality in this unique home could not have been better! The home and its contents is a history museum with an amazing guide to share his knowledge and experiences as presidential chef, historian of America's past and beyond. The kitchen experience was inclusive and fun with Chef Marti sharing product, tips on preparation as well as the 'how to' of foods prepared in Chef Marti's hands on classes ( a must in my opinion). Professionalism was present at every level making my Inn of the Patriots Bed and Breakfast experience memorable. It would be a very long review to share all the detail that went into providing me with a wonderful B&B experience. Nothing was lacking. You must go yourself!

My son gave us a mother-son cooking class with Chef Marti for Mother's Day, but due to scheduling we didn't get to use until October 12. What a gracious host and charming home! The tour of their wonderful collections on the presidents and the stories of the culinary tastes of the presidents gave us the "behind the scenes" of the White House. Making such a versatile dough for everything from bread to rolls to pizza was so much fun. Definitely making it for Thanksgiving rolls. Lunch was delicious with fresh salad and pizza we made. Chef Marti, we plan on additional trips there for another cooking class and staying overnight.

This was our second stay at The Patriots Inn and was just as pleased, if not more, with second visit. The rooms are comfortable, breakfast is splendid with too much food. The cooking class was everything and more that I was hoping for. Chef Marti gives a wonderful tour of house and discusses the memorabilia he has collected about all the presidents with some personal tidbits thrown in. The Inn is so inviting with a warm atmosphere that spending the evening in the house is enjoyable. We will be returning.

We had a great weekend at this Inn. The owners are super nice people with a way of making you feel like we have all been friends for years. The museum was fun and informative. We enjoyed hearing about the amazing things that Chef Martin and Chef Stormy have been involved in through the years. If you are a foodie you're not going to want to miss out on one of Chef Martin's cooking classes. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I came up to visit a local Buddhist monastery and wanted to round out the trip with a unique bed and breakfast. We were not disappointed! What an amazing house! We loved all the attention to detail. Our room, The Baby Ruth Room was so wonderfully appointed. We loved it so much we could hardly pry ourselves away. There was a wonderful show on Saturday night, which we listened to while rocking on the chairs on the front porch. We spent the rest of the night watching John Adams (that we borrowed from our Innkeepers) and just enjoying the beautiful room. The next day we enjoy the heartiest, most enjoyable breakfast ever. The sausage was to die for and those red velvet pancakes!!!Do yourself a favor and give this Inn a try. You will be transported!

After a hard winter with lots of snow in PA, we decided to head to Florida looking for places to stay along the way. What a gem we found at the Inn of the Patriots,Grover, NC! We had a large bedroom on the second floor that had a nature and earth theme. Very comfortable bed, foot massage, cruise type bathrobes, and a snack of homemade pizza! At breakfast we met the other guests and had a good time getting to know each other. Breakfast was amazing and plentiful with Marti serving some of his special, creative, culinary favorites! We learned about his many years as a head chef at Camp David and the White House. His private collections and stories, laced with various dialects, along with his vast knowledge of the history of the South kept everyone engaged. What a wonderful experience! We look forward to a return visit with plans to take the cooking course and winery visit that others there said were fantastic!

This was our second visit to the inn. Marti and his family have a way of making you feel at home. You can tell how much they care about their guests by all of the extra touches they put in the room. For example, there was a DVD player and books in our room, there are DVDs to watch and back and foot massager. Not to mention the wonderful snacks available throughout the day.We had the opportunity to attend two of the cooking classes and use the recipes on a regular basis. Marti is great about making things simple to understand and I still can't believe we actually got to learn how to cook from a former presidential chef! The cooking classes are very fun and informative; plus the recipes are really easy. I gone home and made them several time.Plus, if you love history, you're going to love walking around the house and actually getting to see real historical artifacts up close. We definitely recommend this B&B and will be booking again. We highly recommend staying and also recommend taking one of Chef Marti's cooking classes!

My husband and I stayed at The Inn of The Patriots B&B as a getaway night to celebrate our 25th anniversary. The Inn was perfect. When we arrived our room was ready with soft music playing in the suite. The room was immaculate and we had our own private bath. We also ate an amazing dinner at Ni Fen in Shelby. Breakfast was delicious and then Marti took us on a tour of the Inn describing the historical items and the stories behind the gifts from the Presidents. Steve and I then had a private cooking lesson for lunch. Marti's storytelling and hospitality made the stay that much better. We have recommended The Inn of the Patriots to friends and we will definitely be back for a future visit ourselves.

Amazing presidential historical museum, love seeing through the eyes of a chef. The staffs knowledge of historical events both current and past is amazing. The breakfast was phenomenal, as well as a learning experience. I love learning about the history of food. Again the knowledge was amazing, and not pretentious. Very refreshing. If you love food, mixed with amazing historical facts and memorabilia. This is the place for you.

If you are looking for a fancy "resort type" experience, the Inn of the Patriots is not for you. If however, you are looking for warm hospitality, a clean, comfortable and spacious room, and staff that seem to really enjoy what they do....then this IS the place for you. We bought a one-night stay and cooking class through Living Social. We did not feel like quests---we felt like one of the family and Marti, Stormy and staff made us feel right at home.Chef Marti's knowledge of cooking was incredible. I plan to take additional classes since we did not even scratch the surface of his knowledge and experience. Chef Marti's class allows anyone to feel comfortable with cooking while still imparting plenty of new techniques and skills to those who might be more experienced.

One of the best mini-vacations we have taken! We were emersed into an experience of the American Revolution as Marti portrayed the characters of this historical place. The accommodations were very comfortable and relaxing, making it easy to feel at home in the Inn. All the White House culinary memorabilia added to the feeling of being a part of history. My cooking class was fun and informative as I learned "Gourmet" with everyday ingredients. Just a great place to get away from the real world and visit in a time gone by. You will not regret your time traveling to "The Inn of the Patriots".

My almost 2 year old granddaughter and I came to the Inn to stay since my daughter and granddaughter were both in a wedding nearby. My granddaughter was the flower girl, but was too young to attend all the events. They were SO nice and we had a wonderful experience here! My granddaughter loved the breakfast Saturday morning. Due to weather, the scheduled parade through town was canceled, but we still had an amazing visit. I definitely highly recommend Inn of the Patriots and wish we could have stayed longer, but had to leave Saturday evening so we could make it home before the snowstorm.

It's so relaxing to have a clean bed and a delicious breakfast on a B&B vacation. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the inn. The room we chose was our favorite theme-- Asian. Everything was perfect for us. Prior to the reservation to this particular room, the owner informed us that bathroom would be very small. The bathrooms were a tiny closet that were remodeled to a shower and a bathroom so we were not surprised. The owner really poured out their hearts to decorate the room and keep the building as origin as possible. The hospitality and the tour by the owner was fantastic. The tour information from the owner and the people in the town were so friendly. We will definite go back for a longer visit. What a treat. Thank you so much Sincerely, Cathy

This was simply a wonderful respite for my wife and I over a long Labor day weekend - it was such a treat to have the splendid breakfast courses and hear the history of the area from such a unique perspective! This place was great and the days spent at the Inn were simply relaxing and filled with great memories! I am SO glad that this was the birthday trip we took as part of a celebration for my wife and so grateful that the Inn made this such a special time for both of us! We stayed in the Nature and Earth room and all the rooms are truly unique and comfortable.

An experience like no other, like staying with friends. We were met at the door by our host & taken up to our room which was clean, comfortable, and had every item any hotel supplies, and then some. The bed was soft & I had a great night's sleep. The next morning we had true Southern hospitality at a table laden with food and interesting historical items. Our host gave us an informative review of 1776 & 1860 history, & how this house & the surrounding area relate to those eras. The tour that followed added more to my understanding of how people lived and related to the American Revolution & Civil War. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here & want to return to take a cooking class!

We recently spent several days at this B&B. Overall we had a positive stay. Our room was comfortable and well furnished. The owners and their family were friendly and outgoing. What stands out here is the excellent fresh cooked breakfast each day. Our meals were hand prepared and excellent for taste. The location of this B&B is well situated for visiting the Kings Mountain Revolutionary War battlefield and Military park, as well as the Kings Mountain Gateway hiking trails and Crowders Mountain hiking trails. Definitely worth a stay here, so much better and more personal than a chain hotel.

If you’re looking for a place to get away and relax then this is the place for you! My wife and I are so busy during the week and we just wanted to get away, relax, and not do much of anything; and this place fit the bill. Marti will even tell you that there’s nothing in Grover, NC….what a perfect place to get away and relax. The Inn has such character and charm to it, I got lost for about an hour just roaming around. We took in the cooking class and it was like I was in my mother's kitchen laughing and joking with friends and family. Marti and Stormy create such a family home-style atmosphere you immediately feel relaxed and comfortable. After one of the BEST meals I have ever had we enjoyed a few bottles of wine from the local winery around the fire pit out back with some new friends from the cooking class and had an absolute BLAST! You don't always need those fancy resorts to just get away and relax. If you live in or around Charlotte it's the perfect weekend get-away only a short hour and half drive. If you’re from out of town I recommend staying a few days, definitely take the cooking class, go visit the winery, there’s Kings Mountain or the National Whitewater Center only a short 20-30 minute drive. We’ll definitely be back if anything to see how Marti and Stormy are doing and cook with them in the kitchen.

We had a wonderful experience at The Inn of the Patriots. Marti is entertaining and the food was great. We did not have an occassion to meet Chef Stormy. The tour of the house was fun and informative and I learned much about the White House and life during the Revolutionary War.The only inconvenience was having to share a bathroom with one other guest room and the host family. It was not enough to put a damper on the experience.Be sure to visit Iron Gate Gardens and Baker Buffalo Creek Winery as well as King's Mountain National Park.We are hopeful we can return.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Inn of the Patriots, and loved it. We stayed in the Oceanicus Room with its navy blue walls, old weapons, and lots of Navy memorabilia. We didn't have enough time to explore all the things in the room, but thoroughly enjoyed what we did investigate. The king size bed was really comfortable, and the music available via Dish was a nice treat. Now, about breakfast. Two mornings, two amazing meals. There were at least four courses each morning, and if you went away hungry it was your fault. Kim took care of us the first morning, Johnsie the second. Both very nice ladies. Then Marti took us on a tour of the house, with lots of history from the building of the house in 1879 to items given to Marti & Stormy by recent presidents. Marti has different accents that he uses to make it entertaining; the tour was very informative. If you are interested, there are two winerys fairly close by, with good wines and good information. Check out Baker Buffalo Creek Winery and Owl's Eye Winery. It was fun visiting both places. We hope to be able to return to the Inn of the Patriots.

My husband and I spent 3 days midweek at the Inn to escape - it was fabulous. From the 5 course breakfast (with Angel Food French Toast!!) to the help finding a restaurant, and the cooking class - all top notch. Great attention to detail in the house and working to make you feel a part of the Inn's family while you are there. Highly recommend. Chef Marti tells some wonderful stories and is so willing so share his cooking knowledge as well in a casual, laid back way.

This is an amazing place. If you love history and enjoy having a good laugh with Marti, then this is the place for you. They make you feel right at home and make your stay comfortable. We were there on Halloween and passed out candy to the wonderful kids of Grover. I attended the afternoon class and learned to make the Pizza. I have come back to Atlanta and have made it for a number of people and they can't believe it is so easy. The way Chef Marti explains it in class, you learn to express your imagination and make it better each time.Enjoy
