Frisco Campground is truly an Outer Bank's gem. Spacious sites. Incredible landscape and scenery. Be aware, there are NO hot showers. Cold water only. Lots of wildlife. A beautiful walk over a boardwalk to the beach. This is a National Park so it's half price with a Senior Lifetime Park pass. Some sites are not very level so if you are traveling with a van or camper, make sure you have a plan for leveling.

Went down to the OBX for my birthday week with family members and never actually went camping down there even though I've been to the OBX so many times. Frisco Campground was a great choice, and the scenery was breathtaking, as it always has been. Highly recommend.Nearby activities: Boardwalk Beach acesssWalkability: Market right off the road from where you enter the campground.

Very quiet on shoulder seasons. No hook ups but there are outside showers and bathrooms on each loop. Only one bar 9f Verizon but att is not bad.

This campground was hands down the best beach campground I've ever been to. it was simple, secluded, quiet, clean and felt like stepping into another world. The boardwalk to the beach was an experience all on its own. Our second night was completely clear and the stars were incredible. Bring your headlamps though, there's no light in the park at night which was a huge plus, but it was very dark. If you're looking for a campground on the beach in hopes of a natural reset, this is the place. 100/10, would (and will) recommend!!!!

Very nice campground with paved roads and sites. There are rolling hills and lots of vegetation so you may not see your neighbors, so sites have shade. There is no power or water at the sites and the pads are narrow. There are several trails to the beach. They have separate shower rooms and bathrooms. Verizon had one or two bars for us. We would definitely stay here again we loved everything except the Sandburs/goatheads.

This was our second time at Frisco Campground and it won't be our last. We love this spot. It's our favorite for camping and it's not expensive, it's easy to find your reserved spot, either tent or plug in. There are better camp sites than others IMO. Out in the open or tucked in some trees. Picnic tables and grills. Bathrooms and showers. You can NOT beat the clear breath taking view of the stars at night, close walk or drive to the beach (those uphill dunes tho-- they are NO joke, don't plan on skipping leg day!) We even saw people riding their horses. If you bring your dogs, watch out for a few sand spurs by the camp sites and some cacti near the trails to the beach. Also, do NOT forget your bug spray!!!! We made that mistake, and it had just rained a lot so there were more mosquitoes than usual, but once we got spray and our repellant candles we were fine.Make a trip here! You won't regret it!Nearby activities: Cape Hatteras lighthouse, old location and new. Fishing, jet skis, boats, bikes. Shopping, ferry rides, museums, unique shops.Walkability: Beautiful walk around the campground and the walk to the beach, different areas around the beach and different paths back.Food & drinks: Route 12, Scotch Bonnet's fudge (a must!!!), snow cones, Bead & Grind coffee, not far from Avon and if you hit Nags Head before this campground, HIGHLY recommend Mama Tahiti's -- appetizer nachos and entree fish tacos (both blackened). By far the best fish nachos and tacos we've ever had! Very light, not heavy on the tummy, and even leftovers are great the next day!!.

We really enjoyed this campground. It was beautiful looking over the campsite, seeing the dunes, and the ocean in the distance.Walking to the ocean was a little trek, but the boardwalk made it beautiful. The Rangers were friendly, very helpful, and quick to offer suggestions about the area. The cold showers were a little uncomfortable, but I appreciated having them. They campground was clean and tidy. It was also relatively quiet. 🙌Pristine beaches! As long as you stay out of the grassy areas, the sand burs won't bother you. But keep an eye on your pups paws. We found a couple on ours that she picked up in the sand.We visited in early May and in early July. Both times, the weather was awesome. July is much busier, but that is expected. We did not have any issues with mosquitos in May. In July, we had to coat our bodies with insect repellent. Some campers said the ticks were bad, but we didn't experience that.If traveling in the summer, I do recommend you get a site that's open to the ocean breeze. We didn't notice near as many mosquitoes. A-Loop, D-Loop and some of the E sites receive a breeze. Sites that back up directly against the dunes do not allow a breeze.I would not recommend big rigs. There might be a few decent campsites, but most of them are perfect for tents, pop-ups and rigs less than 25ft.

This was a pretty good camp site. We stayed one night in site P30 in September. This campground is unique for the Outer Banks because the sites at least have some privacy and it is not just one big open field. Easy walk down a boardwalk to the beach. The beach was pretty crowded with vehicles but emptied out a little after dark. Site P30 was pretty small. We had a 3 person tent and it barely fit in the designated area at the bottom of the hill. Being at the bottom of the hill made it more private and you couldn't see other sites from the tent area. There are lots of sand burrs so I would definitely wear shoes. We also used an old blanket between our tent footprint and the tent to protect the tent floor. Bugs didn't seem to be too much of an issue but we did pretreat our tent and dining screen house ahead of time based on other reviewers mentioning issues with ticks. If you have a dining canopy, best place to set up seems to be the back of the asphalt pad.

If you enjoy pulling sand spurs and cactus spikes out of your feet, excessive heat and huge mosquitoes in the summer months, you'll love this place. Did I also mention deer ticks, cold water showers and lack of washing up facilities? Sites are extremely variable - some being no more than a rough grassy verge right next to the road, and some being expansive labyrinths among the dunes and bushes. Redeeming qualities include a relaxed vibe, proximity to the beach and amazing views at sunset (just run for cover quickly before you get eaten alive).

Mosquitoes in that area would literally carry you away sand spurs everywhere you step and park rangers sneaking through your camp at around 11:00 p.m. thousands of trucks packed on top of each other at the beaches it's nothing like it was when I was growing up 😭😭😭Nearby activities: If you plan on fishing you might as well go to one of the piers you're going to be elbowto elbow no matter where you go

Frisco Campground couldn’t have been nicer! I would give this place 10 stars if I could. This was the first campground where I heard more noise from the outdoors than from the other campers. I literally fell asleep to a “frog & circadian orchestra.” I enjoyed seeing the bunnies on my morning walk. I was wowed by the sunrises! There are many very private sites, with shade and most seem to have easy trails to the bathrooms / shower house. The bathrooms & showers were clean. Two well maintained boardwalks from the campground lead right to the beach. The beach was pristine! It was the nicest “wild” beach I’ve gone to.Everything about this place was good, even the park ranger was really helpful and friendly.Be warned though … none of the sites have electricity or water. There is water at the bath house, if you don’t bring your own. The showers are cold water … which to me felt great after a sandy, humid, 85 degree day. Many of the sites have small “driveways” so if you aren’t tent camping check the dimensions of the driveway. I also noticed that the “tent” areas at sites really vary in size so if you have a larger tent check the size of the “tent pad.”

This was a marvelous Outer Banks camping experience. Do note that while the campsites are easy access to back a trailer or RV in, the campsites are basic; no water, electric or dump hookups. The sites are nestled in the beach underbrush and secluded from each other. The upper sites have ocean views in the distance. You can easily walk to the beach. Restrooms have showers without hot water. This campground was my favorite Outer Banks campground.

This campground is beautiful & close to the beach. I wish i would have read more reviews before booking because the cacti & Spurs drove us out earlier than we’d planned. This place would have been perfect if it were just my husband and I, but our dog couldn’t set foot off the asphalt and there was nowhere for our baby to play. Aside from that, it’s scenic, bathrooms are clean, sites are spacious and private.

We camped here for a weekend with friends. Our group was 4 adults and 4 children five years old or younger. We really wish we had known that there wasn't grass and there are tons of cacti. It made it difficult for the kids to play anywhere but the paved driveway each site has. I grew up camping at Ocracoke Campground and most of those sites have nice grass for the tent and for recreation. The sites here at Frisco Campground are sand with long beach grass, many cacti and sand burrs. We couldn't even pitch our tent on the sand because it was so covered with cacti. We ended up setting up our tent on the paved driveway. We did love our beach time though! The boardwalk to the beach is gorgeous and the beach is wonderful! The cold showers available actually felt good after the hot beach day (although I think the whole OBX heard as I showered our 3 year old who did not appreciate the cold water!). The bathrooms were clean as well and potable water is available from a spigot near the bathroom entrance. The individual campsites do offer a lot of privacy since there are small hills and beach brush/trees. As a family with young kids, we will just go down to Ocracoke Campground next time. The grass sites there are better for our girls to play on.Pros: - Very private campsites - Clean bathrooms/showers - Potable water - Beautiful boardwalk to an even more beautiful beach - Friendly rangersCons: So many cacti - No grassSuggestions: Bring solid shoes, not thin/cheap flip flops. Bring and wear bug spray.

Not good for dogs. We had to pull out sand spurs from our dog’s paws continuously. He limped and bled. We also pulled out one sand spur from between his teeth as he tried to pull by himself and one got stuck! He was in pain. Some are so sharp that we couldn’t touch with our fingers and had to use tweezers and pliers. Nighttime walk should take caution as cactus pieces are also on the pavement. Our site was an RV only site and was basically a parking lane. A picnic table was on a small sand/grass area which we didn’t want to step on.The beach was pristine! We could see fish swimming at our toes!

Park service at this campground is absolutely phenomenal. The mosquitoes are bad as mentioned in previous reviews however we did come prepared and while we found ourselves with a "few bites" knowledge is power and we quickly got over it. The frogs and the outdoor showers are a nice touch lol, although they're peeping Tom nature is a bit creepy. On a serious note the facilities are very nice The water was not too frigid and I felt they were pretty clean. Make sure to bring a lantern or flashlight with you when showering at night as there are no lights. The bathrooms were always clean and stocked with hand soap and toilet paper. No frogs to be seen in that area. The seclusion of this campground gives it a nice touch. We have said it a few other campgrounds in the outer Banks from Avon to Hatteras and they all have something unique. I am unable to comment on how far the walk to the beach is but I can tell you it is great that the ORV ramp is right outside of the entrance. We used it almost daily sometimes twice a day during our short 4 day camping trip. I absolutely recommend Frisco campground.

Beautiful Campground sheltered from crowds. I came with my family for the fourth of July and it was a relaxing experience. I loved the long walkway to the beach. It showed the beautiful landscape of the Outer Banks and gave a moment to enjoy some silence before getting to the ocean. Though during the day the beach does get a little more filled up due to trucks parking on the beach.

My wife and I have been camping at the Frisco National seashore campground since 1984. The rustic charm of this little know campground brings us back year after year. Campsites are spread far apart so you're not on top of your neighbor plus there are dunes and scrub trees to add further privacy to each site. The beach is totally awesome and there are a lot of activities the entire family can join in. At night it's quite dark so this is also a great place for astronomy enthusiasts and star gazers as well.

Very nice campground for boondocking - no electric or water hookups. I had partial shade and luckily enough solar to power 3 fans in my trailer,as it was in the 90's.There are some really nice shady sites for tenters. Other sites are really open and you will bake. Cold showers were refreshing. Recommend checking the site listings. Very to close to the 4 wheel beach access ramp.

My experience here was amazing!! The campground is right off the beach and dispersed in the dunes, some sites are better than others.. we were lucky to have a bigger site, but we saw others that were really small right off the road. I would definitely suggest doing some research before picking a site! Suggest looking into: how far away it is from the beach access, how much shade you have, how much space, distance to bathroom, etc. Everything was super accessible. The beach was a little walk across a boardwalk with amazing views and over the dunes.. however it is a drive on beach which looked awesome, I am definitely going to look into doing that next time. BRING SHOE PROTECTION for pets and yourself, there are cacti and sand spurs everywhere so DO NOT WALK BAREFOOT. The bugs were out and about, bug spray or some sort of bug protection is important. Overall, great beach, beautiful views, very fun!! I will be back (:

Great campground at the beach. Spacious sites, flush toilets, but only cold showers. Fresh water and dump station for my van is 6 miles away.
