Awesome little store with a great selection of salt/fresh water. All livestock looked very healthy and happy. Great pricing on everything as well. We stopped by last summer and picked up a pair of mocha clownfish for our new tank. The owner was extremely nice and even provided us a small cooler for our 2 hour trip back home to keep our new guys happy. Still have the clownfish, living their best life and growing like weeds ! Can’t wait to stop back by when we’re in the area.

Found online looking for two certain types of cichlids. Easy to order, delivery charge was half of what anyone else was charging. Fish arrived in great health and are now doing great in their new tanks. I will order from The Evolved Fish again in the future!

bought a plant for my fish tank from here that somehow carried snail eggs with it. within days i had a snail infestation that i couldn’t control that ended up with my fish becoming sick and eventually dying. before you say that i could’ve put him in a different tank, fish equipment is extremely expensive and it seemed like no matter what i did the snails kept coming back. not to mention the store is dirty, hard to get to, and overall a mess with overcrowded tanks and an overpriced limited selection of goods. rip comet you’ll be missed.

The best fish store I've found in WNC by far! The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have everything from nano fish to large, rare cichlids to sea urchins and plenty of drift wood too.

Found out about this shop a few months ago and visited again a few weeks ago. I didn't know there were so many different types of freshwater fish that you can have in your home! Lots of beautiful colors and interesting looking fish! Small staff, but the owner is VERY involved and knows his stuff!

Great fish shop. They were the only place in the area that had what we were looking for, and it was also the cleanest. Super knowledgeable and helpful staff, and friendly shop doggo. I'll be going to the evolved fish first from now on.Update: shopped here about a dozen times over the last year or so, and it remains my favorite fish store in the area. The guys that run the place are great, and are really passionate about fishkeeping.

This place is fish heaven 🐠 only shop in our area that carries axolotls. They have a HUGGGEEE selection with very uncommon fish, plants, driftwood, snails, and soooo many shrimp 🦐 Lee and Craig are the nicest, most helpful, & well educated in all things fishy!! All of the fish I had gotten had came from them and always been super healthy, especially the bettas which at most stores are in small cups, but here they have them with other fish.

I am from a different state and I must say the saltwater selection here was the most organized and cleanest with a fantastic selection at the best prices I have seen. The staff went above and beyond to help me with what I wanted and went one step further to help insure my plane ride was successful even after being tossed around and no heat pack in a carryon bag the coral I purchased opened immediately! Huge shout out to these guys!

Best fish store hands down anywhere near Asheville. They are fair with pricing and have unique fish that other places don’t have. They care about the fish and every time I go the tanks are in perfect condition and clean. They will teach you about anything you need to know as well. Great selection of nano fish too

It took me a good dozen or so visits to write this.The Evolved Fish is a solid 2/5. Sure they have a decent selection of freshwater fish, but that's about it. The store itself is pretty dirty, always a mess, the tanks could use a lot of care, and the fish really aren't in the best condition. They offer no dry goods section, no frozen food, and no equipment. The things they do offer(fish, inverts, and shrimp) are priced extremely high. Especially their coral. Go to any other store and the same coral is half the price for a piece twice the size.Truthfully, the only thing they have going for them is that they are literally the only fish store in Asheville/surrounding area. In my opinion that shows in everything I mentioned above. They have no competition besides Petco/Petsmart.If the Evolved Fish was in Knoxville, Charlotte, Greater Atlanta area, it would have no business. I've been to many LFS in those areas and they are leagues above the Evolved Fish.With all of that said, the two guys that work there are nice people.

Drove from Johnson City TN to get some red head tapajo. They are geophagus. The store looks small but they do have quite a bit of fish. All the fish I bought were super healthy. The staff were super friendly and the owner super knowledgeable about cichlids and fish behaviors. I would definitely recommend going there. Like I said I drove around 2 hours to get some fish and I was not disappointed.

Support your local fish store. There aren't enough in this area. I bought 12 beautiful, healthy African cichlids here. I wish they had more of a selection of fish, but I would rather drive further to buy fish here than go to any pet store chain.

I absolutely love these folks! The store is owned by a husband-and-wife team, and not only are they extremely knowledgeable about cichlids, they are also friendly, nice people. They truly care about their fish, and proved to be more concerned about placing fish in good homes than in making a large profit.I first came to them because I was having water issues, and they spent a VERY long time discussing my issues, testing my water, and offering helpful advice (all while being fully aware I wasn’t planning on buying fish at that point, if ever).On top of all of that, their fish are healthy, plentiful, and beautiful. I did eventually purchase fish, and they were gorgeous.There are some negative reviews here pertaining to the store’s hours of operation. Please be aware that this is a tiny, family-owned store and not PetSmart. These folks are parents, and life happens. Call ahead if you plan to drive a long way to see them.

I cruised down from Asheville to check out the store and get some live plants and spiderwood. I was super stoked! Great prices on everything, there was an awesome selection of tropical as well as cichlids and discus. The owner was super friendly and helpful, I’ll definitely be back for all my fishy needs.
