I adopted my dog from Surry County last week. They were absolutely wonderful! I had a disappointing experience at another shelter and someone recommended Surry County. I drove up from Charlotte and I’m so glad I did! The staff were so friendly, helpful, and made sure to set us up for success! We are so thankful to the shelter for facilitating the adoption and Scenic Subaru for supplementing the adoption fee!

I went to the shelter and adopted a dog. There's a $200 adoption fee that covers all the shots fleas heartworms and neutering. They were very nice they gave me a new collar and leash also some new choice and heartworm pills and flea and tick pills were also included.

As for efficiency checking on complaints I commend them. However they don't seem to care very much for the dogs currently locked in the kennels there; one was horribly hollering so much so I ran over there from the park to check; they said only that he's being dramatic which may be so but if they're locked up and never taken out or walked or shown affection I'd holler too. I understand you are not like regular shelters but I don't understand why the staff there doesn't walk them daily and why can't a fence be put around the back so they can be let out each day????????? We had to leave the park soon as possible because I couldn't stand listening to those poor dogs :(

Shelter was actually clean, and the staff was friendly.I adopted a 3 month old female puppy for $200 which covers her age appropriate shots and will pay for her spay which is in July. Paperwork was super simple and fast.I am very happy to welcome my baby Rue to the family.

Wonderful/pleasant staff... we where allowed to ask questions and spend time with our pup before adoption! The shelter was clean..the grounds where manacured. In fact... we traveled from Guilford Co to Surry about 60 miles one way... so we got to see Pilot Mt. as well! Over all great experience and GREAT for life pet... Roxie! 💞

Just as corrupt as any other government agency. We were forced to surrender a rescue we had taken in due to not having large enough space and we were afraid for the safety of our rescue. However after surrendering this beautiful smart friendly dog we were unable to attain any information as to the adjustment the dog was making being in this shelter. We pray this dog will be okay and are sad to have had to let the dog go unfortunately we were unable to find a rescue to take this dog and it is with a heavy heart that we would sadly never recommend this place to anybody for anything. From our experience, they don't do what they need to do when they think they have found your pet. They never provided our family with photos of our baby boy. They never gave my uncle proof of the surrender forms he signed. They even told me to not call them. There is one good officer we talked to.

We took our precious dog there, because she got too nervous around our three year old. We wanted her to find a loving home that didn't have little ones, so she could enjoy life more. She was so sweet and loving. They told us that they would have a rescue group come in and help her find a home. Not even twenty four hours later, we found out that they had euthanized her because she growled at them! She was so sweet, she must have been scared. They didn't even give her a chance! We asked them to call us before they even thought of putting her down, and they promised, but they didn't! What senseless death! She just needed some time and patience! They didn't use death as a last resort, they used it as a first choice! PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE!

The staff here and especially Emmy is amazing. But the sheriff’s need to go. They care more about not wearing boot shoes than the lives of the animals. Awful place. The staff’s need a raise putting up with the sheriffs!!

Very impressed with the men that make attempts to rescue stray animals. We had a large dog on our property & we were amazed that they were able to use a trap & successful catch it. The man that came back to get the stray was kind, gentle & you could tell he cared. Great to see this. Thank you for making us feel at ease about reporting the stray & reassuring us, that you would do all you could to find him the "right place" to live. Great job !

I called asking nicely to please inform the officer that was suppose to follow up with me to call me back as I have been waiting over a week for a response. Morgan, who answered the call, was rude in just asking for evidence and not doing anything to resolve the solution. She was not listening as she had already made up her mind in not helping me in my situation, by not even offering to call back the officer. I strongly recommend Morgan be retrained in customer service as she will not have a job without customers. If this is reflective of Surry County employees, then I can see why people talk so negatively of the county.

I love this shelter because they are a no kill shelter. You can take strays in without having to worry about them being put down for space. They get the animals adopted out quickly. The only reason for taking a star off is because once you turn the animal over, you cannot call the shelter to check on the animal. You have to put 100% trust into them that once you drop the animal off, they'll be okay.

We had been looking for a small dog to adopt. One day my husband and I were out and about and called Surry animal shelter. They said they had a small 1 year old female beagle mix. We got there and my husband fell in love. We adopted little Sadie and she has brought us nothing but joy with all her 12 pound spunky energy. Thanks guys. We love Sadie so much.

The staff here are so amazing kind and gentle with the animals!! You can tell they enjoy their job and truly care for the animals that are brought into there. They give them care that they need...toys...food and keep the place looking nice as well!!! More shelters should be this way!!!

This morning my dogs alerted me to a raccoon in the front yard. We had heavy rains, so at first I assumed it had been washed out of its home. But then it started staggering around and falling over. He looked like he was well over the limit! I called the Animal Control Office and they were here within a half hour -they are on the other side of the county, so that is good timing! The young man was polite and professional. The raccoon was sitting in the path and not frightened of the 4 siberian huskies howling or the humans, he was obviously sick. The Officer calmly and professionally dispatched the poor creature and took it away. I couldn't be more impressed or grateful!

HORRIBLE PLACE! At first the people seem nice, but the more questions you ask the ruder they become. They are liars. They kill poor innocent dogs without a second thought! They have killed my poor innocent dog, and i now know of atleast 2 other situations in which they have done the same thing. Dogs arrive, then they kill them. There is no inbetween! Please do not take ANY animal here, and PLEASE PLEASE do NOT support them!! I dont know how they're allowed to be called an animal "shelter", they should have to call themselves "surry county animal morgue". This is a horrible place, full of terrible people!

Well there website said that they stayed open till 6.....wrong....i pulled in at like 2 mins till 5 and this lady was coming out the door and said sorry we just closed and started walking with this other guy down the street. I had to drive a long way to get there. You need to update your postings.some people dont have the time during the day to be there at the crack of dawn ...most people work during the day...yall should really change this.

Had to go pick up my kid's dog that was turned over to them as a stray. The staff was very helpful and the animals seemed to be in good health.
