This was an unexpected stop, but so glad we did. I’m from MD originally and would visit Philadelphia quite a bit for their staple cheesesteaks, but I would say this place’s cheesesteaks may be one the best I’ve ever eaten. The people there are super nice and welcoming. Anytime I drive out east, I’ll definitely make it a point to stop in for a quick bite. Highly recommend!

Stopped here to grab some lunch on vacation. We love to try the local restaurants vs the big chains. Food was amazing. My husband had the Italian hoagie, I had the Caesar shrimp wrap, which was the special of the day and one of my daughters. Got the chicken strip basket. Plenty of food all the way around. Food was really good as well. You need to get off the beaten path and try this local restaurant. Seating is limited inside however, they have outside seating, which is very accommodating if ya don’t mind nature. Highly recommend and glad we stopped here while we were traveling.

By far one of the best cheese steaks I've ever had in my life. They don't skimp you on meat like most places, and the price is right. Expect it to be busy because these folks know something about cooking a Philly. The onion rings were amazing but I wish they'd put some foil down to keep from melting the styrofoam. I'd drive out of my way to stop here again.

Delicious, hit the spot. Owner was sweet and funny. Her staff were awesome as well. Cheesesteak was crumbly and savory. The fried turkey sandwich was fresh and satisfying. Removed one star for the cheesesteak eggroll and onion rings, they were greasy and flavorless. The outside had lovely dining area.

In a virtual desert of restaurants between the Outer Banks and Washington, NC, this is a true oasis of culinary delight. Backyard Betty’s is a real treat to experience. I ordered the fish hoagie, expecting to have a square piece of cod, and was pleasantly surprised by a very nice piece of fresh whiting. My wife had the haystack chicken sandwich, which came with bacon, jalapeños, onion, rings (part of the sandwich), topped off with cheese and barbecue sauce. Being a restaurant owner herself, she really appreciated the high-quality and freshness of all the food served, not to mention the kindness and genuine, southern hospitality, of the owner and server. Most sandwiches were priced in the $7 to $9 range.

Once I pulled up to this cute little restaurant in the middle of no where North Carolina, I knew I made the right choice. The staff was extremely welcoming, enthusiastic, and friendly (true southern hospitality). The food came out quickly, and it was delicious! They gave us a sample of their special fried chicken, and it was much appreciated. My kids usually complain about every place we eat, and they completely finished their meals. Whether you are local, or just passing through on your way to Outer Banks, make sure you stop at Barnyard Betsy!

While camping at the nearby Pettigrew State Park, I ordered the special, beer battered fish tacos, for takeout. Delicious food and generous portions. The restaurant was clean and homely, the staff were very kind, and the service was quick. A treasure of a location.

The food was great, but the service was next level. These people are genuinely kind - if I’m ever passing through again, I would absolutely go back! My dog & I sat outside to break up the drive home. Highly recommend!

Wow, what an amazing hidden gem! Yesterday we were on our way back to Charlotte from the Outer Banks and I just did a google maps search for “lunch” in the area we were driving. Barnyard Betsy’s came up and had fantastic reviews. We had just passed the exit but turned around to come back and I’m glad we did! My husband said his fish sandwich was so delicious and my chicken sandwich was amazing! Perfect little kick with the jalapeños! The kids loved their quesadilla and BLT! The sweet tea was perfection! Wonderfully friendly people. Well worth the extra few minutes drive from the highway and this will definitely become our new lunch spot on the way to and from the Outer Banks! No photos of the food because we ate so fast but I did get one of the super cute “barn” building!
