Sun Realty has been a nightmare to rent from and our family is extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with their service. We’ve encountered multiple issues since arriving:•Front door was left wide open upon arrival•STOVE DOES NOT WORK. Broken knob sparks•broken door handles and some won’t lock•No shower curtain•No dish towels in kitchen•One of the dryers is broken•Light bulbs burnt out•Microwave handle broken•Multiple kitchen cabinets broken•Toilet didn’t flush•Fan in bedroom didn’t workI sent multiple emails with NO RESPONSE. I had to call the office multiple times to address housekeeping and maintenance issues. They finally sent a tech out after 2 days to fix minor issues, and offered a SINGLE BURNER FOR A HOUSE OF 20 people.We initially booked this rental property due to the size of the house, updated amenities and the accommodation for mainly adults. But unfortunately after our stay we will not be renting this property again or using Sun Realty due to the amount of issues we’ve encountered and lack of effort and urgency to resolve these issues from Sun realty.DO NOT USE SUN REALTY FOR YOUR VACATION. This is the worst rental experience I’ve ever had.

Just completed an amazing vacation in OBX. Had an awesome time. This house was fantastic. Great location, amenities, pool, game room and home theater, plus a short walk to the beach. We will be back here again in the near future.

Zero stars for Sun Realty! Will never use them again! Found a used cigarette on the inside windowsill after the house was “cleaned.” Pool and hot tub were filthy and downstairs fridge did not work. Customer service was of no help either!

Arrived at check-in time (4pm) to find the cleaners still there. Around 5pm was able to get into home and it was VERY dirty. We have been coming to OBX for years and understand how rental properties work but this house was in very bad shape. Dog hair on every surface, carpets stained and smelled of urine, food (a whole tortilla!) found next to the couch. Alerted management who sent a second cleaning crew who agreed the house was filthy. Spent the whole first day of our trip cleaning up so it could be livable. Still waiting to hear back from management for a partial refund.House was clearly a quick flip. TV in living room is virtually unwatchable given it is hung on the wall right up to the ceiling. Barn doors on second floor don't latch for privacy and kitchen drawers are cluttered. Cheap knick knacks cluttered every wall and surface. House felt dark inside, virtually every seat was uncomfortable with old furniture, and house was a long 15+ minute walk to the beach. Suggest looking at other rental sites to book a home for your vacation.

My extended family and I stayed at a property in Carova managed by Sun Realty just a few weeks ago (towards the end of July). We were prepared for a vacation different than ever before due to Covid-19. We were NOT prepared for the unpleasant surprises, biohazards, and overall level of filth that this home held for us.Let me start by saying that I cannot begin to imagine how difficult it is to manage such a volume of rentals on weekend check-ins/outs in the middle of busy summer seasons. It is not lost on me, especially considering the time of year, that everyone is human and that humans make mistakes. I am sharing this not because there were 1 or 2 mistakes, but because my family and I witnessed clear evidence of long-standing cyclical neglect in the care and management of this property.I would like to share examples, along with some pictures, of that neglect to help inform others who are considering booking a rental with Sun Realty as well as property owners seeking to protect their significant investments.Issues with associated photos:1. There was a hypodermic medical needle on the counter of one of the bathrooms.2. There was a plate of cooked bacon placed in one of the kitchen cabinets for an unknown period of time prior to our arrival, as well as other food trash and dishes scattered throughout the bedrooms.3. There was a heavily blood-stained pillow.4. There were very suspect white stains on the comforter in one of the bedrooms.5. The house was so dirty upon arrival, one of our children (who had been nowhere but in the car the entire day leading up to arriving at the house) had solid black feet after a brief time of walking barefoot on the floor.6. There was trash and a partially smoked joint found on the patio area.7. The kitchen was missing essential utensils necessary for very basic cooking either entirely or partially (there but broken or with pieces missing). Examples include measuring cups, whisks, etc.Issues without associated photos:1. There were smashed flies all over the kitchen.2. There was dog food, a dog bone, and significant amounts of dog hair scattered throughout the bedrooms and living areas of the home. One room had a very strong pet odor that was present throughout our entire stay.3. There was several inches of standing water in one of the tubs upon arrival.4. There were a few different maintenance concerns such as a non-working microwave, slow cooling refrigerator, and seemingly loose/wobbly ceiling fans.5. Our check-in time was communicated as being 5pm, but the home was not available for us to access until 6:20 pm due to " delays from the cleaning company".6. The pool appeared to have not been cleaned prior to our check-in.We made Sun Realty aware of a few of these concerns (via a phone call) almost immediately after gaining access to the home. Two requests that we made at the time were to get the microwave working and to have cleaning supplies brought to the home so that we could clean the home ourselves in order to feel comfortable touching surfaces. Both of these requests were addressed. We also requested that the pool be cleaned, but it was never cleaned at any point during our stay.After finding more of the listed issues, we followed up again the next morning via phone only to leave a voicemail that was never met with a response. We sent all details with these same photos that same day (day 2 of our stay) and again a few weeks after checkout to allow for an additional opportunity for these concerns to be addressed. Neither email was ever addressed or acknowledged.Please strongly consider this review prior to choosing a realty company for either an OBX vacation booking or property management.

We rented a house on Corolla Beach back in October 2021. Accidently, we hit the pylon to the carport and know full well we are responsible for the repairs. However, as you can see in the pictures below, all that was needed for the repair was some patch work, a piece of broken trim and paint to match. Material cost $67.84. Included in the repair is a $35 charge to access the beach, which we also understand. What I don't understand is being charged 6 hours of labor at $70/hr for that work. At most, I would think the amount of work described would take 3 hours.We tried talking with management at Sun Realty, but they have no concern with the amount charged by their service professionals. All they care about is getting reimbursed.Our friends and I have rented numerous times from Sun Realty, but will never again over this matter. I know they probably don't care as we are one in thousands that rent from them, but we will also not recommend them to anyone. Renters beware!

Our family just returned from our COVID delayed family vacation. We picked Sun Reality's Sound Delight (MS-847). From the website and amenities it was perfect for our family. Pet friendly, Pool, Hot tub and linen and towels provided etc. . Lets just say the property needs some TLC. First there were NO towels anywhere to be found. Second the Direct tv did not work. (even on vacation some TV is fun). Third the lock on the front sliding door was broken off. (Secure? I think not!) Another major thing was one of the cabinets still had potato chips left from a past guest spilled in plain site. I first sent an concern and repair request for the repairs and cleaned the mess our selves. The ceiling fans were also loaded with dirt and grime, that were to high for us to clean. The towels arrived at the front door promptly after speaking to Tracey (agent). The maintenance guy arrived with no mask and came into our rental. Only to leave a stick to stop the door from sliding. Tracey did her best to get Direct tv to fix the issue to no avail. After talking again with Tracey, she assured me, because my son has a compromised immune system, that no other person(s) would come on premises. To no avail another person shows up to service the hot tub, un announced, no mask and just let themselves in. My oldest son then called and complained. We actually lef Friday evening a day early. We had had enough and had lost the will to want to stay and check out at 9:00 am (early because COVID cleaning took more time. After all the things that were not clean are they really doing deep cleaning? When you spend this amount of $$$ you expect satisfactory not perfection. We have used Twiddy realty in the past, we tried Sun for a change. We do not know if we will be a returning customer.

I just have to say, this is one of the most disappointing things experiences I have ever had renting any kind of Airbnb or vacation home. The photos on this website are NOT up to date. The appliances (fridges and microwave) are broken or very cosmetically damaged. The patio space surrounding the pool was absolutely disgusting, filled with sand and garbage, broken glass and algae. While I understand that can happen with ocean front property, it was clear the space had not been properly cleaned off in some time. The stars leading to the beach were covered in at least a few feet of sand. We had children and it was a major hazard with the glass and garbage everywhere. There were nails sticking out of the exterior stairs which is a MAJOR risk. We had to hammer them back down ourselves to avoid us or our children stepping on them and getting injured. A railing on the third floor stairs interior was completely broken and one of our children almost fell out of it down 3 FLOORS. The toilets leaked, the fridges didn’t cool properly, the WiFi was broken the whole stay, there were dirty linens just thrown in a corner, ash marks and blood on things, alcohol bottles in the light fixtures, and the patio door in the master suite looked like it was kicked in a shoddily repaired at one point. Not to mention it shows a fireplace in the master and it has since been covered with a piece of wood.Sun Realty and the owner of the home said they would come bring a new fridge as well as clean the exterior and they never did. The wife was repaired halfway through our stay just to break again the same day.They ignored our complaints and have yet to address anything. RENTERS BEWARE. It’s clear this property hasn’t been properly maintained in quite some time. For the amount of money we paid for this property we expected much better, at least better communication from the company.

Extremely disappointed in Sun Realty’s customer service. We booked a home almost a year ago for the week of the Fourth of July and they cancelled our booking with only a few weeks until the start of the booking. With limited options left for that week they offered little to no help and absolutely no flexibility in negotiating prices even though the cancellation was completely their fault!! They left us completely scrambling. We are a group that has booked houses in OBX for 10 years now and rest assured we will never book with Sun Realty again. Look elsewhere!!

We just returned from a wonderful vacation at a rental property represented by Sun Realty. We were lucky to have a home with keyless access, so we didn't visit the office. I provided my mobile number, so communications were via text or email. Instructions were very clear. The portal was so easy to use. I did call the office for a minor maintenance issue and the person on the phone was so personable and helpful. Processes that I loved for Sun that were a bit different from other Outer Banks rental companies included stripping the beds and piling the towels by the main door. That was easy for us to do and hopefully saved the cleaners a few minutes. It was also good to be asked to run one final dishwasher load, but there wasn't an expectation that we ensure that we unload the dishwasher prior to departure. That may sound simple, but as the Mom trying to feed people prior to departure, it was welcomed direction. Thanks for your outstanding customer service, Sun Realty!

We had a wonderful stay at Atlantic Star-CC10. The house was clean, well equipped and modern. The double ovens, sinks and large refrigerators accompanied our group perfectly. The bedrooms were nice with soft beds and long pillows. I can’t say enough about the bottom floor theatre room with surround sound. It was a nice escape during the high winds from Hurricane Ian. The supply of games, Uno, Monopoly, Deal/No Deal, etc. was also a plus. The only complaint I have is the pool. We specifically rent homes with heated pools as we always vacation the last week of September. I don’t even consider homes without heated pools. It’s that important to my adult children. We weren’t able to use the pool because the heat was turned off during a previous stay. The pool guy turned it on mid stay, but it never warmed up enough for us to use.

I'll never rent through Sun Realty again. Very disappointed in our house. I cleaned the floors when we got there, the cupboards were dirty, webs hanging down, was supposed to have a bag of paper products and there was not 1 roll of toilet paper or paper towels, no garbage bags, no bag of anything, like it said online. The house has potential but it needs TLC.

We have been dealing with Sun Realty for 2 years. Prior to that we dealt with another realty company in the same location but they changed management and slapped ridiculous additional fees onto the homes. Sun Realty keeps their fees low in comparison, which is much appreciated since the homes are quite an expense to ordinary middle class folks visiting the area. Though we could never afford one of those homes for ourselves, we feel fortunate that the owners rent them out to at least allow us 1 week affordability to stay in their homes. Sun Realty does a nice job of maintaining the homes for the owners and renters. We had several issues needing to be addressed during our last stay and Sun Realty maintenance was there within 24 hours to take care of each issue, one of them being a serious issue of loose railings that could have been disastrous for my grandchild of 2 years. Sun Realty maintenance was there that afternoon and the gentleman was very pleasant. I thank Sun Realty for their due diligence and quick response. Sun Realty has been pleasant to deal with and any issues I have had with their services then Sun Realty provides us with an after visit survey in which I can address those issues. I rely on their integrity to read those surveys and address those concerns. Like any realty company they do have set rules and policies that renters must comply with and that is to be expected. Otherwise. you risk eviction. But as a renter, my family and I try to comply with their policies and respect the property that we are renting in accordance with the owner's expectations, which of course is the right thing to do. We try our level best to leave it in a clean and organized manner as the day we enter it, while still enjoying the spacious living quarters with its various amenities. We are grateful for the opportunity to visit such a historic and beautiful site as the Currituck Lighthouse with gorgeous views of oceanside sunrises and the Sound side sunsets.

We rented a beach home for 2022 Thanksgiving & Sun Realty did not disappoint! Beth was so helpful & friendly in answering our questions & in handling the reservation. She’s a gem! They were on point in communicating with us via texts & the portal when the home was ready, door codes, necessary info, etc. We had an issue with the main TV the first night & they went above & beyond to handle the problem when we called the next morning. When they informed the owner, we were shocked (and thrilled) to be offered extra vacation time. We’ve been renting OBX vacay homes for 40+ years & this was our best experience… especially during this crazy post-Covid time when many employees just don’t give a flip. Thank you Sun Realty!

We stayed at the pirates paradise in corolla. Overall, it is a beautiful home. However, this poor house felt like it hasn’t been loved in years. The fans had months of dust build up. Same with the air filter. We vacuumed under the couch and both my mother and husband said it looks like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. The sliding glass door had years of rust build up which my infant daughter kept trying to eat.There were no hangers. Or wine glasses. Two things you typically don’t have to bring with you to a vacation home. Both were big disappointments to different people in our party.An upside was the pool and pool area were beautiful ! Sun Realty allowed us two full weeks with the pool open even tho we visited in mid October. We really appreciated it especially bc we had a few hot days we spent swimming.Sun realty were a good company in a jam since we only booked a month in advanced, but I highly doubt we would book with them again.

Kitchen plates much better than most. towels great, sheets wonderful, beds comfortable, but could have used more blankets or covers, but that is covid.Kitchen stove did not hinder us, the flat bed grill on 3rd. deck, served us well for eggs and bacon.

The Sun Realty team were wonderful to work with! Any question or change we needed to investigate they were quick to respond. We are dog owners (very responsible ones) and they assisted in getting more dogs approved to stay in the home. They even let us park in their parking lot in Corolla when the Beer Garden lot was full. I highly recommend using Sun Realty for your next vacation.

Where do I even begin? I was a guest in a Corolla rental the week of 6/4-6/11. 1. The house was filthy upon arrival: sand all over the floors, dog hair everywhere, trash between between the furniture and wall, old pool shoes laying on the floor, etc. What's the point of such a late (5PM) check-in when you're not cleaning the house?, 2. The chemical levels in the pool were so off that 3 guests ended up with chlorine rashes, 3. The latch on the dryer door is missing, so it does not shut properly, 4. The oven has a broken heating element so nothing cooks properly, 5. None of the outside showers turn on, 6. Holes in the screen on the third floor porch are just covered with plywood. I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting but you should get the gist. Stay away and find a decent rental/property manager.

Dirty, Broken Furniture, Ceiling Leaks, Musty Smell, CockroachesRented a place in Corolla, NC from Sun Realty in late September 2021. On arrival, the place was filthy and not maintained. It was infested with cockroaches, floors and decks were sandy and littered with dead bugs and cigarette butts, kitchen drawers were full of crumbs, live worms and roach droppings, the stove hood was greasy and used coffee grinds sat in the coffee maker. A futon, dining room chairs and a lamp were broken and unusable, and a nail pop at the top of the stairs nearly punctured someone’s foot. Unbelievably, that’s not the worst of it.There were active water leaks on every level of the house. Ceilings were water stained and paint and plaster fell off as we sat below it. Within a few days, 5 of 7 adults were struggling with must / mold allergies, sore throats, sinus drainage and severe coughing when in the house. One ended up in urgent care for treatment of allergy-induced bronchitis. We all felt better when we were on the beach and immediately got worse when we returned to the house.We reported this to Sun Realty early in the week, but all they did was send out an exterminator and pulled out the popped nail, which resulted in the entire piece of flooring falling off altogether, so now it’s a trip hazard at the very top of a stairwell. Sun promised a refund of cleaning fees, but that hasn’t happened.Before posting this, we reached out 3 times in writing to Sun Realty to give them a chance to respond. They never bothered. Save your health, your money, and your vacation. Skip Sun Realty and go with another rental agency in Corolla.

We booked our family vacation in Sea Blessings WHL-911. On paper, it seemed perfect for everyone who was staying. The pictures on the website do not show the house in its current condition. To put it simply, it looks like this house hasn’t been maintained for many years. The siding is dirty, with mold in spots. The windows are dirty with dead insects, mold, and other debris in the corners. There are several broken and torn window screens. The lumber for the decking is faded, splintered (one of my kids got a nasty splinter from walking barefoot in the deck), and has rusty nails poking up everywhere (hope you got your tetanus shot). The exterior lighting either doesn’t work or has burnt out bulbs. We called the realty company about the exterior pool lighting not working and they said that we shouldn’t put it on “because it would attract bugs”. Sounded to me like an excuse to not fix it, but at our insistence they sent someone to fix it. After that, it still didn’t work properly, with the culprit probably being a short somewhere in the wiring. The house itself was dirty despite having our check in time moved back for cleaning. The appliances were old, rusted, and in some cases just didn’t work. For example, the electric stove top almost started a fire when we thought it was turned off (the knob was turned to the off position). We set something on top of it and it started to smoke. The smoke detectors didn’t work, we found out as a result of that accident. Also, the fire extinguisher was empty.Look, I could go on and on about the problems with this property. Literally every room had an issue or something broken. I get the fact that worker shortages are a thing during this time and managing properties is hard work. It doesn’t excuse the condition of the properties. I wouldn’t leave my house in this condition and would be embarrassed if it looked a quarter as bad.

We stayed in the Monkey Shine Property in Avon, NC.My review:Pros: We had a wonderful week with some of our dearest friends. We laughed and enjoyed each other. Also, the hot tub & the pool were great!Cons: This property is dated to say the least. The pictures on the website are NOTHING like what this property looks like. It was disgustingly dirty on arrival so in addition to unpacking I also had to clean. The shower in the master bath was so gross that I never felt clean using it…mold everywhere!! The sliding door on the first floor didn’t lock properly so it felt very unsafe. The washing machine has NEVER been cleaned!! It has crusted detergent in it with hairs stuck to it!! None of the pots or pans are useful so bring your own. The “ocean view” does not exist. The grass around the property doesn’t look like anyone mows it ever. The oven doesn’t work properly…the broil option heats from the bottom. The bath tub in the Queen room wouldn’t drain properly. The home is incredibly humid all the time so towels were always damp. The outside furniture on the third floor is rusted. The decks are so old and have never been finished so they are splintering. The grill was a disaster…didn’t heat properly and has also never been cleaned correctly.#neveragain #wasteofmoney

We stayed at Lil House June 12-19 week in Cordova. So disappointed. Walked in and house had not been cleaned. Dead bugs over floors. Spiders dead in sink. No hot water. Yellowish- brown Water! Of course, they're out of office. My daughter in law went to the office the next morning. They did fix hot water and called a company about the water. Clear water for a day! We have never had to go to office in over 20 years of coming to OBX. The one thing you want is a nice shower and couldn't do that! Clothes ruined! Please, if you want to at least take a shower, don't stay here. Mattresses horrible! Good porches on a positive note

We were asked to wait past 5 pm for checkin due to cleaning. As it was pouring rain and we had no where to go we went to the house to wait, no one there - no cleaners / no supervisor checking, none of the things were told they and unlocked. There were many issues with the house the biggest for us being dirt! Baths were dirty, we had to clean all surfaces and handrails were filthy.Along with that no working cleaning tools / zero products to do it yourself. The vacuum does not pick anything up.The house was in poor condition, no ice maker, dirty, gritty floors and an extremely poor kitchen. We had 8 forks and zero teaspoons -so constant dish washing.The house is Sandy Toes and we have had a very frustrating experience with Sun Realty - never again! Absolutely no effort to make it right other than maintenance sent to fix broken items.

I would give negative stars if possible. We rented the same house two years in a row. We love the house and visit the Outer Banks annually however this year was the worst experience we have ever had in the OBX.Our check-in time was 5pm. We were told to expect to be in at 5 or a little later due to staff shortages. This was fine as we understand staffing issues and figured we would have to wait until 5:30 or so. At 5:30pm I called the office and they said the cleaning staff still had not cleaned the house and that they would text us shortly. At 6:30 pm we tried the office again and apparently everyone had gone home but our house was still not clean. How an office can decide to close when their renters are still not in the house is questionable business habits. I would think they would have staff available to make their houses are ready for guests that are sitting in their cars waiting to get into a house. I understand it is the weekend but you are in the travel business. Poor business practice.So I contacted the emergency number and they said the cleaning crew would be over in 10 mins. 20 mins later they show up. The house was absolutely filthy. We had to sit outside with young children, with food in coolers and shopping bags for over two hours while they cleaned the house. At one point a thunderstorm rolled in and we had to hide in the car port. Finally at 8:30pm the house was "clean" but upon entering the house we found the cleaning to be inadequate, with dirty bathrooms, medicine laying on dressers in the bedroom, dirty floors, etc. So now after traveling all day we needed to reclean the house.The next day I expected to hear from Sun Realty with apologies and some sort of offer to make things right. The response was underwhelming. Repeated utterances of this being a "fluke" blah blah, when a simple Google reviews search shows multiple instances of the same nature in the last 6 months. I understand that staffing is difficult due to COVID but you need to find someone to clean houses before Check-In if you want repeat business. Pay your staff more, have your office staff clean the houses or don't rent them. They refunded our cleaning fee and offered no other apologies. The person on the phone was indifferent and seemed to care less.We, nor our friends, will never use Sun Realty again. We love this house and since we met the owner at Check-out and expressed our problems with Sun Realty, we sincerely hope they change companies so we can rent it again.

Sun Realty made this so easy! We found the perfect OBX rental for our family and the gorgeous home surpassed our expectations. The property was ready several hours early, which was so convenient for us and the key codes were easy to navigate and the communication was clear! Can't wait to go back!!!

Not the best OBX vacation we’ve had. Stayed in Shorely Dreaming Sun Realty property. The house is dated which is fine but it wasn’t as clean or kept up nicely at all like other houses I’ve rented in obx. Check in not until 5 pm for extra cleaning? Not very clean..cob webs in ceiling fans, furniture worn with dirt stains… It definitely needs a lot of Tlc. Only 1 of 5 TVs work, no pool lights in pool or on decking area work, pool itself was nice. Bought the linen package the sheets are very old, thin, don’t fit the king bed fitted sheet has no elastic. The home stated ocean view there is none. Also stated short easy walk to beach. The walk is pretty long and all beach access has stairs. Difficult for small children or elderly. Hot tub jets run for 3 min then you can’t turn back on for an hour or more.Called to report issues nothing done. Was told cable company would come out Friday between 5-6 we leave sat. Morning and at this point we will probably leave a day early. Will probably not use this company again.

First time using Sun Realty, very disappointed upon late arrival due to COVID cleaning to fine the Angel Abode 19 not cleaned. We had to clean our own rooms and the remainder of the house. Two housekeepers came late Sunday afternoon little late to sufficiently clean as we had already done the rooms and did some cleaning to the stairs, elevator, swept the main floors. Refrigerators not clean. There was trash, candy, clothe hangers, panties, and other items left under the beds. Insects were in the corners in the rooms. Outside bathroom never cleaned so we never used it. Window sills full of dust and insects, baseboard edges full of dirt and dust. One room had no box spring on the bed so one of our guest had to sleep on a mattress with jus a frame. Two (2) rooms had issues with the TV’ s. There was no remote in one room and the other had a note that the tv was to be replaced. We were not made aware of these issues prior to our arrival. When placed calls to Sun Realty said no remote in owner’s cabinet not sure if could get a box spring for the bed. We had to clean the outside grills prior to using. We stayed the entire week no one called back to address or resolve the problems. The house is a nice house with proper maintenance would be a nice place to vacation not sure who the owner is or who the owner should fired Sun Realty for poor representation, no follow up, or housekeeping for not properly cleaning and maintaining the property. It’s a shared responsibility. We have vacationed in the Outer Banks for several years always used Carolina Design Realty never had a problem. Give one star as it’s a nice design house with lots of potential with proper care and maintenance!
