We recently rented a home in Duck with Twiddy, and it included beach chair and umbrella rentals and daily setup service provided by OBX Beach Cabana Services. We have paid for similar services from other vendors in the past, so we are familiar with the process. We would never pay for this company’s service ourselves – it was very subpar in comparison.1. The chairs themselves weren’t in good condition. Several of the sling chairs were clearly on their last legs and tattered.2. The hours that the service is provided are not ideal for many beachgoers. They would come very early to set up the chairs (at or before 8:00 am), which is fine, but they would also come very early in the afternoon, usually before 4:00 pm, to take everything down. We like the beach in the late afternoon, so we were always still using the chairs and umbrellas when they would come. Other companies did a better job of giving a true full day on the beach and were often in contact via text message (which this company doesn’t do) so we could let them know our timing each day.3. When the staff would come to take down the equipment while we were still on the beach, they were virtually always rude. They would tell us we had to get up immediately. We would always ask them not to touch any chairs/umbrella we were still using, with an assurance that we’d bring them back to the house when finished. They acted like they were doing us a major favor if they would allow us to keep any chairs, and always outright refused to let us keep an umbrella, with no reasoning as to why. The service being paid for is both the equipment rentals and the set-up service. If we would like to use the rented equipment and waive the take-down service on any given day, I do not see what the problem is, so long as we take responsibility for bringing it off the beach, which we always offered.4. Our last day was a nice beach day, so we wanted to make the most of it. Yet again, the staff member doing the beach service refused to leave an umbrella on the beach after 4:00 pm, and begrudgingly allowed us to keep a couple chairs, while throwing our belongings off of other chairs haphazardly onto the sand. I told him that I’d bring the umbrella back to the beach myself to keep using it if he had to take it, which he told me he’d prefer I not do. After he left, I did exactly that. He must have continued working nearby, and he came running down the beach a few minutes later, yelling at us and forcibly taking the umbrella down. He was rude and disrespectful, and when I again pressed on why it was a problem to use the rented umbrella on our own, I was told it’s because a storm could occur at any time. There was no perceptible wind and no storms that day at all. In fact, on days earlier in the week with 30 mph wind gusts, OBX Beach Cabana Services had left umbrellas up all day and seemed to have no issue at all with the weather conditions. He also said Duck regulations require that all umbrellas come down at 4:00 pm. We know this is not true, as we have been vacationing in Duck for 30+ years and know that 7:00 pm is the required time. The staff member then took the umbrellas with him off the property so we would not have any further access, and locked all of the chairs with a bike lock so that we could not access those either.We were shocked by the incredibly unprofessional behavior. We felt like we were being treated like misbehaving children, when we were asking for such a basic thing, use of beach equipment that the owners of our home had rented for us. We should not have to limit our beach days to the exact schedule of OBX Beach Cabana Services, and we didn’t bring other beach chairs or umbrellas with us on the trip, in reliance on these ones. The attitude of the OBX Beach Cabana Services staff is poor, and while I often got the sense the young guys doing the service were just following orders, the orders seem to come from management that does not have a customer-friendly focus at all. There are many options for beach chair setup service in the Outer Banks – choose another.

We are always so impressed that our chairs and umbrellas are set up as early as our morning run on the beach. This gives us an ideal spot with plenty of room. Thank you Beach Cabana Services for always making our vacation so relaxing!

Bumped into Tanner on my vacation and he wound up getting my group (which was rather large) all setup on the beach last week. Everything was perfectly laid out so we didn't have to worry about a thing. His services make vacation so convenient and will certainly be reaching out again when I return

These guys were super accommodating!!! Definitely made our beach vacation more relaxing not having to worry about lugging everything back and forth ourselves!! Especially easier for my elderly grandparents and siblings with all the kids and their belongings. Thank you!!!

We recently rented from this company for the week of June 28. We ordered full service delivery/takedown of beach chairs and umbrellas. We paid in advance for a one week rental.While we were happy with the service itself, our issue is with the company.We received 4 days of rentals with no issue. On the 5th day, the company came to remove the equipment mid-afternoon due to a forecast for an impending hurricane. We didn't have an issue with this given it was for safety reasons. What we did not realize was that they took the equipment away completely (they had previously just stored it on the rental property overnight).The storm passed overnight and the next day turned out to be a beautiful day. They did not return to set up the equipment. They never contacted us either to inform us they weren't coming.When I called to inquire about a refund for the one and a half days we lost, the company denied it. They stated that since we had had the rentals for more than 3 days, we weren't entitled to a refund. Keep in mind I paid for the entire week. The last time I checked, one week = 7 days, not 3. They then proceeded to tell me they couldn't control the weather and basically insinuated that I had received my money's worth. I informed them that I didn't take issue with the weather, but that I was surprised when I went to the beach that day that there was no equipment there and then that they were telling me I'd basically just lost my money. Their response was "oh well".We are now disputing the amount they charged us for the day we lost. My husband just spoke with the company today. He spoke with the rudest individual ever, who was practically yelling at us. He told us we used the equipment for more than 3 days (again, this company struggles with math as we paid for 7) and that they removed the equipment because of the hurricane.When my husband asked why they didn't return on Friday with the equipment, he was told that they couldn't get in touch with all of their employees. That is their issue, not ours, yet they never contacted us and kept our money. Not only that, but we were able to get in touch with the company that day, so the excuse they used about communicating with their employees doesn't ring true. Again, we were told we are not getting a credit and basically were hung up on.This is a company that yells at its customers and hangs up on them- because they were in the wrong. This is not a way to do business and we will NEVER do business with them again and caution ANYONE else from doing so.
