I absolutely love the staff at Ruth’s Memorial Cabarrus County Humane Society. I have been affiliated with them for almost 7 years. Judy, the Executive Director is a person of compassion and professionalism. I just recently adopted my second fur baby from there a few days ago, and I couldn’t be happier with Gobi Newton Lowe. I love these folks so much that I have recently joined them as a volunteer. These folks work hard to find the best homes possible for these beautiful dogs and cats. I am grateful that we have such a wonderful organization here in Concord, NC!

We adopted a sweet 8 month old pup, Heather Elise from the Humane Society of Concord about 4 months ago. The staff were wonderful through the adoption process and made sure Heather was a good fit for our family. She was certainly shy when we first brought her home but she has warmed up so well to our kids and other dog. She has fully embraced her cozy life at home and is such a cuddly dog. We are so lucky to have her and couldn’t be happier to have her as part of our family.

I can't say enough good things about Judy Sims and her team at the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County. The knowledge, love, care, and work they do for our four legged friends is amazing. I am so grateful for my little senior Rusty who I adopted from them 2/29/24. I was totally impressed by their knowledge of the dogs in their care and their professionalism in checking me out and making sure I was a good fit for adopting Rusty. These folks do some of the most heartbreaking and rewarding work you can do. If you can, please help them out financially, through volunteering, word of mouth, or even just surrounding them with positive energy - whatever you can do. There are angels amongst us and these folks are some of them. Thanks for giving this senior and her little senior dog the opportunity to share a home and love. Namaste😎

We adopted our precious Chase (originally named Bobby Gene by the staff) a little over 3 years ago. He was only 4 months old and had been traumatized his whole short life. There was no doubt the staff and his foster mom were very determined to place him in a home where he would be loved and cared for. We were blessed to be picked as his parents. He is still an ongoing challenge, but has made enormous progress. We love our boy!

They really take the time to get to know their animals and find them the best home fit. When I called about the dog I ended up adopting after seeing her picture on their website they knew her by name right away and were able to give me a very detailed description of her temperament and history with them. Everyone I met was very friendly and kind and very passionate about the work they do. I love my pup and could not be happier with the way things worked out. She fits right in as a member of my little family like she was always meant to be here.

The Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus is an absolute blessing to our community! Judy Sims works tirelessly to provide care and compassion for animals. The work she does is anything but pleasant. Everyday she encounters heartbreaking stories of abandonment and neglect. I stand amazed at how wonderful our Humane Society is and appreciate Judy more than I can express in this post! Please support, adopt! Spay, Neuter!

Great institution and staff. They look like they could use more space though. :/ There are caged dogs in the public bathroom...and it smells a bit. But if you need a dog of any size, age, shape, color, or even a cat, then consider this location. We bought an 8-month-old puppy named Dallas. They said he was a Chihuahua mix, but he's clearly a Jack Russel Terrier. We didn't figure that out until we made it home. The previous owners returned him because he was too much, and they had young children, and I'd hate to have him returned again, so we are currently figuring out how to cope with such a hyperactive dog.8

Adopted this handsome baby on Saturday. He is 8 years old, walked into his new home with us, greeted his new cat brothers and started playing with his 6 month old sister. What a joy.......a special thank you to Anu and Judy...everyone was wonderful.

Absolutely love the care and love shown to the animals as well as getting the right puppy to their prospective home. Care a great deal about whether they will properly be cared for and if you find yourself unable to care for them they ask that you bring them back. That’s love of an animal.

I really disliked seeing how crowded it was but sadly, that's the state of every shelter and rescue now. I wish more people would/could adopt. I also wish there was more help for people who are so desperate, they feel the need to leave their dogs there by tying them out front or dropping them over the fence, hoping to give them a better life.As to the folks there, they are so kind and so nice! It's NOT easy to care for these displaced pets and I'm sure they just want to take them all home! The volunteers take their time to let you meet your new friend and will give you as much info as they have about the dog. In that respect, it was a good experience. They do their very best to make sure it will be a good fit. Even though they make it known that the animal may be returned to them, no one wants to see any animal come back. It's confusing and heartbreaking to the animal. We met and fell in love with our little girl at first sight! Even our other 2 dogs, who we brought with us, were well behaved and seemed to like her! We went home with our new little family member the day we visited! She is adorable and so far, has been a great puppy. As you can see, she is right at home..lolPlease meet Cersei, originally Rosalie.

Nice selection of dogs of all ages. Very friendly and helpful staff. We adopted a 1 year old female Lab mix as a playmate for our very large male Doberman and even though she is much smaller than him, they are getting along great!

I have gotten 2 fosters from HSOC, although 1 was a "foster fail". I love Judy, Mike and all the staff there and know they genuinely do the very best they can for all the dogs in their facility and are very careful about the homes where their dogs are going. I will continue to support their efforts and believe in their mission. They work so hard to keep their animals healthy and happy until they can find them "furever" homes even though they are subject to heartbreak almost every day because people either can't or won't do right by the many animals that come through their doors. People don't understand what it takes to run a rescue, what it costs both financially and emotionally. I hope that they can continue and ask that everyone help them with their mission. Donations, fosters, and adopters are always needed, so please do what you can.

From my limited interaction with the staff, the ones that I did talk to really cared for the animals. I went there to donate dog food after my 15 yrs old Staffordshire Terrier passed. I was not pressured to look at the available animals, but decided that I would just take a peek. Wow, 1st dog I see is another Staffordshire Terrier. The volunteer was well versed in the history an issues with the dog. The 2 year old had been treated for 5 cancerous tumors and heartworms. I decided to adopt. The staff spent plenty of time going over recommendations for food, heartworm preventive and flea/tick meds. Spencer is so grateful to have a home. He is a loving dog. Still requires some work, but has the basic disposition that I wanted. Almost all the staff are volunteers and do a great job keeping pens clean and dogs walked. This despite the high number of animals they have to care for. Please help them out. Adopt from here!

I adopted my baby boy here in February 2017. He was three months old. The staff was super attentive, informative and understanding. We left the same day we went with our puppy "Neji" in tow. What was great was that the fees we had to pay included having him neutered and also micro-chipped. They kept in contact with me and we're very flexible about making sure when I could bring Neji to get neutered. Great customer service. I just dropped him off today for his appointment and the HSOC was kind enough to pick up Neji and take him back to the shelter where I can pick him up after work since I don't get out until later. I will always consider this place my first option for adoption. They are really fantastic!!

Got my sweet puppy here a month ago. The adoption process took over an hour because they are much more strict making sure my other pets have their shots up to date and are on heartworm preventative. But I see why they do it and I’m glad that they care that much about the animals. Everyone there was super friendly and even though they were busy they let me take the dogs I wanted to see outside and I got to bring home the best pup.Do make sure you book an appointment so you can make sure you can come in and see all the dogs they have!

Everyone here takes amazing care of the puppies and dogs! They love each and every puppy/dog that is in their care! It makes me very happy that they make sure that everyone in their care goes to a good, caring and safe home. We have the most wonderful puppy that we adopted from them recently. I was more than happy to follow their rules. I had no problem doing what was expected of me and was glad to do more.

The Humane Society of Concord is a great place to visit and meet your new best friend. The staff and volunteers are so friendly and help each person and family find just the right dog for them. Every dog in this shelter is loved and treated with kindness and respect; it is easy to see they are well cared for.I am so blessed to have found my very best buddy there and appreciate all the help and kindness I was shown. Thanks

I feel that I was judged over the phone by the staff. Yes, my toddlers were screaming in the background. But that shouldn't be an issue. I was asked unnecessary questions: such as where was I calling from. Where do I live. (All I was trying to do was schedule an appt to see a puppy on their site.) They stated they couldn't adopt an unaltered (not spayed or neutered) dog to me because I lived in Davidson. Even though I reside literally 20 mins from their location. Im located on the Davidson side thats right outside of concord. They would not allow me to speak with the director who stated she would not adopt to me. They said that each location makes their own rules regarding adoptions. The reason they said they wouldnt adopt to me was because they didnt know if i would bring the puppy back to their spay and neuter place for a "morning appt in the future". So weird. It sucks because my toddlers really fell in love with one of their dogs on the site. 0/10 would not recommend due to how I was treated.

"Unite lost pets with their owners and find new homes for homeless animals."On February 19, a beautiful, friendly dog showed up in front of my house. He obviously had a family based on pearly white teeth and a not-very-old collar. I immediately posted pictures of him on NextDoor and hoped his owners would come looking for him. But I didn't just want to let him run loose for fear he'd get hit by a car. I drove through all the surrounding neighborhoods, followed all the suggestions on NextDoor and posted him on PawBoost, Facebook, and hung some fliers at nearby stores. I even took him to the Emergency Vet to see if he had a chip--he did not.I have two dogs and three cats of my own and could only keep him until Monday afternoon. On my lunch break I ran to the Humane Society. I was rudely told that they do not deal with strays and that obviously he has a family. I asked her if people don't come to them to see if anyone has reported finding a dog (the Emergency Vet filled out a form with all his info and stuck it in their binder in case anyone called). She , again rudely, said "no not really, you'll have to contact Animal Control. The quote above is directly from their purpose. I got home and looked on their website and oddly there is a form to fill out if you find a lost dog. She didn't mention filling it out. After the way she acted toward me and this sweet, beautiful dog, I will NEVER again donate anything here. I've brought blankets, towels, and other items.

Adopted sweet Avery Winn yesterday!! She is the sweetest little girl! The whole adoption process was an ease and the staff is exceptional. Everything was well explained and you can tell they truly just love the dogs and just want what’s best for them. I would recommend this facility for anyone looking for a new canine companion.

To start this review I would like to say that we did not adopt a pup here. We simply came to visit and see if we could find a furry friend that would be right for us and our household. After reading some negative reviews I would like to comment on the facility itself yes, it is small, and yes the dogs are in cages. But, obviously the people writing negative reviews have never been to a kill shelter where the animals are neglected and abused. This shelter runs on volunteers who are doing everything they can for the pets they have. We had an amazing conversation with a lady who had been fostering a beagle mix (Diamond) and she was so happy showing us pictures of her. They clearly love these dogs like children. The fact that the adoption process is so rigorous is actually a really great thing. I don’t think that they keep dogs forever and are dedicated to find a good family. All in all yes this facility is in need of some renovation, but if you’re going to write a nasty review you better be willing to donate/volunteer to fix it. We had an amazing time meeting and loving on these animals and will definitely be coming back!!
