Beautiful place. They have everything you need to recharge. My husband and I stayed here before some races. We really enjoyed it. We were here during the week, so we didn't get to go in the store. It looked like it had some cool stuff.Nearby activities: In the KOA, they have putt putt, peddle carts you can race, sand volleyball, playground, and a huge boucey pad. They also have a well-kept bathhouse and laundry facility.

We were a little disappointed in this KOA. We didn’t think it was up to the high standard we have experienced at other KOAs.First the positives. The location is beautiful, with very spacious, level sites. Ours had a small patio and comfortable furniture and a great fire pit. The front desk staff was great during checking and the camp host was a very nice man.The website and welcome package mentioned lots of amenities like a camp store, a snack bar, a food truck, an arcade, bouncy things for kids etc. we arrived only to be told they were out of food at the snack bar. The food truck guy had apparently just not shown up. The store was closed while we were there. Had to drive down the road to get firewood. The worst part is we were charged $10 per day amenity fee. The only amenity we could access was the laundromat and we still had to pay for that.I’m very reluctant to recommend this place.Nearby activities: There is nothing close to this park. Closest store in in Elizabeth City- about 30 miles away.

Great location, quite serene just what we needed to sit back and relax and enjoy the view. This KOAis tucked away behind churchs Island neighborhood so you wouldn’t even know it’s there. The roads are very narrow when going through this area before you get to the KOA so keep that in mind if you have a big rig, but don’t let that scare you cause there are plenty of big rigs that go there.Yes we’re going to visit again. staff was great location is great bathrooms and laundry. Facilities were excellent and well-maintained. Convenient store was great and the fun activities they have outside like a jump house putting green little mini go karts that use by pedal power if you wanna work out try those out real fun time.oh, and make sure you visit the Morris farmers market in Currituck, which is about 26 minutes away definitely a place you need to visit for the shopping the food the music and environment totally worth it. And if you want to venture out a little further like we did, we went to Kitty Hawk, which only took us barely an hour to get to, which was such an easy and scenic drive, and we got to see an awesome part of history when it comes to the first recorded flights and innovation.Nearby activities: Definitely must check out Morris farmers market.Safety: No concern about safety since it’s one way in one way out and it backs up to the sound

This is a beautiful campground. The good comments from other campers are mostly true. Friendly staff. Scenic location. Well maintained. There are 2 downsides that KOA can not correct. That "sewage" smell is not sewage. It is the smell of decaying plant matter. That old bog black mud smell. It can be strong along the shore. Then there are the bugs. The ones we experienced that covered up everything one day are apparently seasonal. Pesky but a fogger will disperse them, so come prepared. We enjoyed our stay. Set your expectations, and you will too.

We had a wonderful time at this campground. Staff was more than helpful and the campground was clean and well maintained. We were parked backing the water and was nice to be able to walk down to the pier and go into the water. The campground store and ice cream shop were terrific and the staff that was running it were great; I think his name was Dan.The only issue we had was another family would literally walk right through our site multiple times to go visit others in the cabins; this is not the campgrounds fault. Just inconsiderate people who don’t observe campground rules. We will definitely come back!

The KOA team really made our stay great! Dan and Victoria went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and our 4 legged kids felt welcome. Tim shared a lot for knowledge and was a great help with the water equipment. We loved our stay and will come back again soon! The Happy Jack's restaurant made it convient to grab a tasty snack or dinner since this location is further out.The kayaks and paddle boards are an awesome amenity! Being on the sound and having somewhere to swim was nice in the heat.

Me and my wife stayed here on a quick last minute let's go type trip.My God!!! Constant dogs barking. Golf carts beeping!! People laughing and being loud!! The smell of bbq and charcoal grilling everywhere.... EVERYWHERE!!!.everyone was waving and friendly!!! Who does that??!!!We had a amazing time and a even better time reading prior poor reviews. I wish businesses could review their customers. This camp ground is nothing short of AMAZING!! if your reading the poor reviews and agree with the level of unrealistic those piss poor excuse of campers are you may want to book at the Hyatt regency. We will be back over and over and over. We enjoy the sound of the American campground. Bugs sap dogs and kids being just that ... dogs and kids!End of the day this is camping people. Don't let common sense elude you. This place is super friendly and a true coastal treasure! Thank you for existing koa west!

We checked in to this KOA for a relaxing holiday weekend it turned into a total nightmare. On 5/26 within an hour of setting up smoke started coming from behind some of the cabinets of our camper. We went to turn on the electric fireplace but it would not come on. 5/27 my wife was using her hair dryer, it made a funny noise then the power in the entire camper went out.I reset the breaker and everything came back on. I went to use my air fryer later In the day that would not work so apparently the power surge or whatever happened burned up an almost new air fryer.I went to the office to report the problem first thing I was asked was if I had a surge protector which I don’t. A maintenance person was sent to my site after a check he stared that the outlet was fine. After he left and I turned on the power the microwave turned off and on three time I ended up turning off every breaker I could to prevent any further damage and get us through the night. In addition to that the bathroom had standing water on the floor and not very well maintained. We paid through Memorial Day but we are leaving a day early before this site burns ups our entire camper. If you choose to stay here which I highly recommend you don’t and they assign you site J-16 run the other way.We will NEVER Stay here again!!!!!!

What a wonderful oasis! Perfect for a family trip with a playground and kayaks, paddleboards, and life jackets included with your stay. There is a walkway around the sound to the multiple fishing docks or the swimming dock where you can jump right in. You have the option to rent golf carts to get around the campground as well. Dog friendly with a dog park. Clean and beautiful views of the sound.

We spent the spring/summer traveling around the U.S. using K.O.A. campgrounds and this was by far the worst that we experienced. I did a review after leaving, on their website and they blocked it. I emailed the manager there as I was advised by K.O.A. and I never got a response. My advice to anyone thinking about the outer banks, avoid this campground if you want an enjoyable experience. From what I found ( after) staying at K.O.A. west, K.O.A. east is a MUCH BETTER PLACE. Let's see if K.O.A. west blocks this review.

Beautiful and very clean campground. The staff were all friendly and polite. Bath house was air conditioned and had continuous music playing which was real nice.I definitely recommend this KOA and we will be visiting again. Thank you for a great five night stay.

Wonderful trip! The whole property was amazing. We had a small issue when we checked in but the staff were all so very accommodating and addressed it and fixed it for us quickly AND provided additional accommodations to compensate. Truly amazing service. Super clean as well and very friendly staff. So much to do as well there. We didn’t stay over the weekend but the calendar events had so much to do we were bummed we didn’t stay longer. We will definitely be back soon!

We stayed in a cabin this go around. Very nice, however needs some form of ventilation in the bunk room. Maybe a corner fan.Rules need to be astablish about the swim areas. Too many families taking over the ladder areas and not allowing others to access them. Also, might consider investing in a swimming pool.Otherwise had a great time.

We have gone to several KOA’s and always rented a small cabin. We love the experience. How ever this one was far from a good experience. The first thing we noticed when we finally made it was the horrible sewage smell. We thought it would pass. Being that close to the water But it did not. We got the keys to our cabin got everything unpacked. Then the power in the caben went off for a minute or two. No big deal. But it happens 4 more times that night. The neighbors dog barked all night. The place was caked in bugs. I know camping bug what a surprise. But this was ridiculous. Mosquitoes dragonflies you couldn’t walk through the door. You can’t even see the front door. I loved the location because it was water front but we could not enjoy any of it. Because of the smell. We decided to only stay that night. We were suppose to be there all weekend. So when I went to the office the next morning to say sorry we have to go. I was fully charged and told she did did not care we were getting sick from the smell it was not her problem. I guess we should have taken the hit that there where not many people there. Not many people out side. I would not recommend this place to any one. Being charge full price $575 for only staying one night and dealing with that is insane.

Great park if you want to be in a relaxed setting. About an hour to most of Outer banks activities, but even though they dont have a pool, they have a seawall around the park, docks and ladders, so you can swim anywhere so it is not crowded. Use of kayaks and paddleboards included. Only thing I didnt like is that the roads are dirt with gravel and very dusty, especially when people speed by. Staff are very helpful.

Every staff member we encountered was very helpful and courteous. We were fortunate enough to be able to move from one of the campers to one of the cottages. The trailers are just too small for our comfort which included 4 people. We're excited about the water taxi that's coming soon. The only issue we had that was cured by moving into one of the cottages was the cleanliness of the campground bathhouse. I encourage you to focus more attention on the bathhouse. Other than that it was a very pleasant and relaxing vacation.Thank You!

We have stayed here a few times with friends. We book together and they place us together, until recently. The last time we tried to book we were told if we wanted to be sure to be placed together, we would have to pay the site lock fee. We did not book and probably will not. The campground is OK but I'm not a fan of the site lock fee to begin with but we didn't ask for specific sites, just two adjacent and to charge us the lock fee is just not right. There is nothing to draw us here, but it is a shame because it is a decent campground that is close to home and we would stay here a few times a year otherwise.

We started "glamping" in March of this year and have been out a total of 7 times to date (May 14th). This campsite is our favorite so far. We enjoyed our stay so much we rebooked before leaving. I have a 4 year old and 14 year old and all of us had a blast. My husband and the kids really enjoyed fishing in the ponds out back. We rented a golf cart and also walked the trails. We participated in the activities they had and we really did have a blast. It's sooooo quiet too. It's beautiful during the day and night.

Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The guy that led us to our site was the best! He let us meet his dog, Oakley, and told us how the pandemic resulted in them losing their water taxi to Currituck Island. The sites do not have a lot of room between each camper but our site had a large grassy spot between our camper and the water. Beautiful place. Bathhouse are clean, private, and spacious. The grounds are clean and the camp store is nice.

This is a great campground. The staff are great! Very friendly and helpful. I couldn't have been more pleased. Our site was gorgeous with beautiful sunrises. Our site had a great stone fire pit, a glider fireside, and a great picnic table and 4 chairs on a deck. We were here in early Spring so bugs and heat weren't an issue. We also pre-booked another trip for October before we left!

Five star potential, not realized. Primative camped for 3 nights. Camp sites are very big and private, however the bathrooms are a measured .5 miles walk each way from our camp site, most of pedal carts are broken, jump pad did not function properly (deflates when you get on it.), and it was expensive at over $40 per night. There are no water bibs or electric hook ups to charge the rented golf carts anywhere near primative area. Camp ground is on a nice property and most of the staff are friendly. We basically had to rent a golf cart due to the distance of amenities and the cart we recieved had a half charge. The electric for charging the vehicle is half the distance to the amenities and we had to charge it over the 2 days we had it. Overall 5 star potential, however my experience was 2.5 stars at best.

*One of our "Go-to" campgrounds*Great campground. Somewhat challenging to get to if you have a big rig, but it is manageable. It can get windy there sometimes, so be mindful of doors or tents. They always have a themed weekend. And you can't beat their 30% discount to rebook before you leave. They added free boat rentals and a shuttle to local attractions. There is no pool, but the kids love swimming in the bay. This is one of our go to campgrounds.

Last minute trip was pretty successful. Of course we came in the rain. Nice campground. Fishing was fun, the kids loved the pedal bikes. Bugs are bad there but bug spray helped. There was a huge ant pile right at our site with tons of ants. Because it rained friday they didnt put jumping pad up all weekend. The staff was extremely helpful and super nice. Bathrooms were always cleaned. Water pressure is good at your site. Very beautiful!!!
