As we end our 5 months as first time snowbirds I sit here looking at all this beauty and wonder if this is the best campground we’ve experienced so far. As Chimney Rock loses it’s Southern Charm and becomes $20 burgers, craft beer and made in China trinkets, you can step back in time at this rustic treasure. If your expectations are paved roads and luxurious amenities there are resorts nearby that are more suitable. For someone who’s traveled to this town with 5 generations over the last 50+ years I will say this campground is quite a magical experience.

Located just past the hubbub of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, Hickory Nuts Falls is a great spot to call home for a weekend. We went in early November, so most of the Fall colors had made their appearance. This is a pretty small family-owned campground with pretty tightly packed spaces, but we never felt cramped because we got the back spot (the bear spot according to the owner). The road circling around to the backside spots is a little sketchy in spots, so if you've got a low car just...drive carefully. This place has got the feel of like...a time share for sheds. The covered camping platform was nice even if it was rickety and bared-wired. Great to have electricity for a few essentials, but you can still ignore all that and have a more primitive experience (and still have your tent covered from the worst of it). Just make sure you've got a good pad. If you're going full electric, bring a few cords and power strips so you can take advantage. They've got bathrooms, showers, and firewood on-site, so you'll be comfortable here for a whole weekend (or more). Staff (owner) was great, said they lived just down the road and could get in touch with them if we needed. I'll take a look next time I'm in the area - great value and experience just off the main drag.Nearby activities: Great location to get to: Chimney Rock Park, Lake Lure, surrounding wineries, on and on.Safety: Very safe - lots of kids when we were there just wandering around and everybody had a family feel to it.

My husband and I just returned (last night) from a stay at one of the tent sites. If I could give this campground more than 5 stars, then I would. The sound of the river is incredibly peaceful and the riverfront sites are literally right on the river. We had no worries about safety - its a great family friendly campground. We already called this morning to see about booking a site in the spring and summer. We are going to be "regulars" for sure. Thanks again for a perfect getaway. :) The Hatfields, Manning, SC

Full hookups + cable TV on the River. Definitely not a resort style campground, but to me that’s the best part about it. I’m not a fan of resort camping. All the staff we interacted with were very nice and helpful Nice views from the riverfront campsites. RV sites were a bit close, not KOA close, but close. The bathhouses were clean, but could stand a renovation. We never saw any bears, that they said was a possibility. Close proximity to the village of Chimney Rock. We enjoyed it, though, and will definitely plan a return trip in the future. Possibly next year.

The views are five star ⭐️! Absolutely gorgeous sites situated along the river. Close to Chimney Rock and not a far drive from Asheville and surrounding cities. Apple orchards within 20-30 minutes. Really lovely area! The downsides, and take this with a grain of salt as I think we just had bad luck, was the number of dogs barking nonstop near our site. There were a total of TEN dogs on either side of us. One family who put their large dog in a small crate without water access and he barked incessantly. We did alert the campground owners but the dog still barked a lot. Thankfully those people left after one night. The campsites are also very narrow so you feel kind of closed in. The other downside to this campground was the bathrooms. We stayed in our RV but on the last day before we left and had already dumped our tanks, I stopped in to use the campground bathroom. One of the two toilets was clogged and overflowing, there was TP and bugs everywhere, and it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. I had flies landing on me as I used the toilet and got out of there as fast as I could. So, tent campers beware. All this aside we will come back but likely during the week when there are fewer people (and hopefully barking dogs) and plan to not use the bathroom at all. The owners are very nice!!

This campground is in an amazing location along the Rocky Broad River. Campsites along the river have fairly loud river noise, which I find relaxing & therapeutic. There are quite a few full hookup sites in this area. Tent camping is available one level above the river (near bathrooms, office & game room). Much of the campground is taken up with “seasonal” sites. There are also a variety of cabins for rent. There are some things to be aware of. As you turn off of the main road, it is onto a single-lane narrow bridge over a raging river. If you have a camper, you will need to swing wide & watch your camper closely. Also, sites are tightly packed. If you have a larger camper, you will want to have a frank conversation with staff about how realistic it is to fit your rig into the site. I brought a 30 ft 5th wheel pulled by a Chevy 2500 & it took quite a few tight turns to access site 9. Bath house is well equipped & clean, but nothing special. Stalls are very short with little privacy. Two functional shower stalls on the women’s side. Staff were friendly & helpful. Can’t beat this location for short term camping in Chimney Rock.

I would recommend Hickory Nut Falls campground to anyone. I’m fact, I do all the time. Beautiful sites, right on the river. Walking distance from Chimney Rock Village, not that I would walk that road. With only a family of three running the camp, they work so hard to give you the best experience. Super friendly. Cleanest and nicest bathrooms I’ve had camping. Couldn’t praise enough.

This campground was a nightmare. Our original site had a raised platform with a picnic table. The planks on the platform were broken and the whole thing was seriously unstable. The road around the campground was virtually impassable. We suffered serious damage to our car!!! The bathhouse was run down and dirty. The pictures and description are totally misleading. The tent sites were rocky and sandy. Overall just a run down, filthy, cluttered mess. Awful!!!

The location was great! It had a pretty creek! However the bath house and restroom were filthy. Only one shower seemed to work in the woman’s bath house and the others seem to have mold in them. The bathroom stunk and smelted like pure sewage. It was not clean. The pictures online made it seem to be a nice and clean campground. We were checking in today. And decided to go checkout the bath house and since it was so filthy and smelt bad we left and went to another campground. The online photos was definitely not what was in person. The camp site for our tent was also very small and was right on top of someone else. My advice is before paying to stay there, go and do a walk through before paying to stay there!

My husband and I drove 2 hours from Columbia SC- we got to the campground and we were so impressed with the sites and the cleanliness of the whole property. Once we got to the site… we realized we forgot our tent! The owners were FANTASTIC and offered us a spare tent they had or a cabin that was available for the night. We are so grateful for their kindness and we hope to be back soon- with all our gear!Nearby activities: Chimney rock

Our family had a great little trip over Father’s Day. Beautiful views in all directions. The river is fun to play in. Very close distance to downtown Chimney Rock. Camp sites were a tad close to each other, but this is common with river side sites. We will be back!

This was our first time camping as adults with our child and he definitely made some core memories on this trip he’s even asked to come back for his birthday in August. We stayed in the camping spot 76 right on the river which was absolutely a amazing site our electric and water worked perfectly, we were not far from the 2nd bath house and it’s a camping bath house you can’t and shouldn’t expect 5 star accommodations it served it’s purpose which is all I could ask for. After setting up our tent the spot was a little tight (big tent) but now we know how to set it up next time we visit because we will be back every summer for a stay some of the spots could use a little leveling out but that’s expected over time it just made it a little difficult to level out our picnic table but we figured it out.We couldn’t have asked for a better 1st time camping experience it was beautiful our 5yr old had the time of his life creek crawling, making a friend, and catching his first fish me and my husband got married while we were here so this place will forever hold a special place in our hearts from the friendly helpful staff to being conveniently located close to everything Chimney Rock has to offer you won’t be disappointed with your stay here.

Great little spot with the most spectacular view of any campsite we have ever visited, right on - and I mean ON - the beautiful Broad River. Walking distance to Chimney Rock Village with cool little shops, bars, restaurants and general weirdness. In the shadow of the actual Chimney Rock State Park. Although the campground amenities aren't always in perfect order, the owners work really hard. Come prepared and you wont even care.

We really enjoyed our stay here at Hickory Nut Falls Campground. Its located only minutes from Chimney Rock with stores and restaurants nearby. They have wifi antennas throughout the property and are supplied with fiber making it easy to stream! We had a premium full hookup spot backed up to the flowing river, it was scenic and the rushing water sounds wonderful. We will be back.

Beautiful location. Love the water that flows behind the camp spots. The spaces are fairly close together. There's not much room between you and your neighbors, so make friends. Electric on site. Safe area people seem very respectful. Bathrooms are dated. But they work great. Not far at all from the town. Nice shops. Awesome views. The mountain is the best. Be prepared to walk. Well worth it. Had a great time will definitely like to return.

Camped here with my parents as a child. Loved it then, love it now. A trip down memory lane. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Campers are just awesome. Short walk to Chimney Rock. And dog friendly! What more could you ask for? Will definitely be going back!

This was our first time at Hickory Nut Falls campground. We had a family of 8 and took up two tent sites. We had an absolute blast! The family that owns the place is wonderful, very down to earth and helpful. We were just a quick drive to Chimney Rock. Our campsite was great, beautiful spot right on the river, nice and level. The tent sites are all pretty close together, but it’s such a great spot and the people are all so kind it didn’t really make a difference. The trees were close enough together to set up hammocks. We frolicked in the river and had a ball. Bathrooms were a short walk away. We’ll definitely be back!

The service was great, lended us a extension cord, great camping place but i do have one bad thing to say….The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Smells like a sewer and you can tell it is never cleaned, i feel as if ur gonna have a “ family “ campground you need to have clean bathrooms.

My 6yo son and I tent camped on site #2 for 3 nights. Such a gorgeous location, walkable into town where there are lots of places to eat. The campground is right on the river, which provided natures BEST white noise for sleeping! We slept in until after 9am every day which is usually impossible with a tent. Yes the bathhouses etc could do with a little love, but most of the campground is really for seasonal guests or RVs so not really a priority. We bathed swimming in the river anyway ❤️ that to me is 1000 times better than a fancy bathhouse.Only downside is that site #2 is the first pitch as you come in from the main road. As I was solo parenting I was a little nervous, but as soon as the super friendly hosts realized, they kept an eye out on us. My son didn’t want to leave. We’ll definitely be back soon!! 10/10.

This was a very accommodating campground with nice workers. We enjoyed our spot because it was right next to the water with a nice porch to lookout. We notice our site didn't have power and they were kind enough to run us an extension cord. The laundry facilities were cheap to use and not busy so we were able to do laundry with no wait! The bathhouse is large and somewhat dated but all we cared about was the hot water! It was a little pricey but overall we thought it was a great campground and very close to the state park!

The most amazing campground I’ve ever stayed at! We planned this trip on a whim for Memorial Day weekend and I’m so glad we did. The owners are so nice and very accommodating. The sound of rushing water is the best part, in my opinion. They have a newly renovated girls bathroom with amazing waterfall shower heads. This may seem minor but when your camping, a nice shower is always an essential. We enjoyed it so much that we are planning to go back for our anniversary in two weeks. All the open sites are nice but if you can get on 77, 78 or even 2..you will enjoy the privacy of them a lot more if that’s what you’re looking for. My best advice, book now! You won’t regret it.

No, no, no. Not this one. After driving most of the day, We were looking forward to staying here at chimney rock. We were looking forward to seeing Lake Lure, and the entire village nearby. We nearly got stuck on the narrow bridge coming in but drove straight to the office. There was a note on the door to look for Ken on site 4. That might have been fine, except there was no map to show us where site 4 was. We called the telephone number listed. There was no answer-it rang repeatedly. We went up the hill looking for site 4, and nearly clipped our travel trailer on a huge boulder. That was enough of this five star “resort” for us. We wrote a terse note and left it at the door. The place was run down , and is most definitely not big rig friendly. We couldn’t check in ! … no incoming packet at all! it was 3:30pm. We found site 4 on way out … no one there! 🌟Good riddance.
