I drove by this morning and decided to stop by and check it out this afternoon. What a neat place! The history here is unlike anything I have experienced in Charlotte. I am originally from Michigan, born and raised. We had Detroit hardware in downtown and this reminds me of that place, which is gone! Sold for it’s real estate. If you have not been to Davis General Merchandise, you have got to check it out!

My kids attend Pioneer Springs down the road from the store and have frequented it many times as a school outing with high praise. This weekend we went for a family visit and came out with all kinds of finds. Mostly, I love seeing Silas's legacy live on!

I have been saying I going to go to this store for years. I finally went today. Man! I'm kicking myself because I should have gone the first time I noticed it years ago. Really nice gentleman there. I love this store! It is really old and it has this cool old smell to it. He has a little bit of everything there it is a true general store. I went there looking for some local honey, and yes, he had it. I will only be buying honey from here from now on. They also have that good old-fashioned hard candy. Please go by and give this awesome store a visit. Support your small local businesses.

Legit original old time general store. Some unique specialty bottled & packaged food but mostly hardware, and LOTS of hard to find stuff; hand tools, clothes, shoes, boots, lawn & garden, feed & seed. & more. Treasure this place because too many of them are gone. Try here FIRST before the chains & big box's.

A true part of Carolina history. We find most of what we need here for our garden every year. Highly recommended!

This place is amazing, they have so much stuff and the prices are great. The lady that runs it is super nice and helpful. It looks small I'm outside but it's huge only inside and they have so much stuff!

This is an awesome place. Go back in time and visit this place. Silas Davis (the owner) was very helpful and was a joy to visit with as well. He had exactly what we were looking for and even had a few boiled peanuts to boot!! Worth a visit!!

This is an unique step into the past expirience. Mr Silas was always there to greet you and help with anything. He had it all. If he didn't, you didn't need it. Got to taste his boiled peanuts this year.

I live right down the road from here and never stopped. I had some time to kill yesterday, so I stopped in. This is like stepping back in time. A little of everything and such a great place. Will be back

Always a pleasure to stop in. They have everything you didn't know you needed and more. Anything for gardening, hardware, tack, Carhartt stuff, cast iron pans and camping/trail gear. I got a lot more than usual since the wife wasn't with me.

This place is so cool. They have a bit of everything and the family is super nice, and local. The shop has been there for over a hundred years and has a classic old general store feel which I love. The hours are unfortunately pretty limited which makes it hard for me and I assume others to go. It's also not well known about, seemingly, which limits it's business, I hope it stays around despite this. Definitely will continue to go here when I can and support local small business! I've found things here I can't find at big name hardware stores and more besides. Jams, nails, yard tools, candy, boots, overalls, cast iron, and so many more things. You have to check this place out. It's open 7-4 Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri, and 7-noon on Saturday.

A real "old time" general store. Lots of house and garden needs. Durable clothing. Some items made in NC and in USA. You feel the history of the store when you walk in. 3rd generation owner of store a delightful man with lots of info to share.

If you like old stuff, you’re gonna love this place. The store is old, it smells old, it has old kinda stuff in it, general store items, real sugar Cheer-wine & Coke in glass bottles. Maybe try to buy something, I’m sure the owner hates being a tourist stop. Get ya a tee-shirt and a hat. I did...

Dirty dingy general store, Old man, presumably owner, asked my brother and I where we were from. When we told him we had been born and mostly raised in Charlotte he seemed as though that warranted him to challenge us on how “southern“ we really were. Going on in a Grandpa Simpson style rant about “yankee influences” upon us telling him we’d never heard of his store before. Be sure not to call it a shop! That will really set him off.

If you've been in Charlotte for a while, you need to go. It's a welcome step back in time. A very interesting selection of goods with the old school charm that was so common here in the South.

Horrible experience. Was threatened my owner reaching in his jacket. Then stated he was going to call his “patrol buddy”. Stated there was a sign posted saying you have to pay for group pictures all the way to the right of the building and hand written with no contact information and no pricing. Charged us $35. Then had the audacity to ask us if we wanted to buy something during closed store hours. Great place to take photos, horrible owner.

Love, love, love this place!!! This place has one of the best down home appeals in the area! Especially if one is from an era when life was simpler and less stressful. This place has the old-timey appeal! Coveralls, work boots, seeds, elixers, liniments, Ole Skool is written all over this marvelous place! And the owner is extremely personalable, friendly and commical. Cast iron frying pans, foot tubs, there are things for the horse as well as for the dog. Go check out this impressive place full of nastalgic comforts!👍👏👏👏

I was looking for seeds sold by the ounces. They had a lot of seeds. You spend 1 or 2 dollars for an ounces of seed. It is a lot of seeds. You can share with others. The elder man was very helpful too.

If they don't have it here, you don't need it! Bought my husband a fresh sweet potato pie and homemade pimento cheese. Well worth the trip!
