I had a morning appointment at 8:15 for my dog. The sign outside said it opened at 8:00 today but the door wasn’t opening so I came back at 8:12 to be let in by the groomer. She said it would take an hour to an hour and a half. I thought that was odd considering that I’ve used this same service at multiple other Petco’s and it’s only ever been about 45 minutes. There were also no other dogs that I could see in the kenneled area. At the 2 hour mark I called the grooming department with no answer, so I walked in to see her talking on her cellphone in the grooming area with no dogs being cared for. I could only hear one dog barking in the kennels, and it sounded like mine. I asked if my pet was done and she said in 10-15 minutes because he still needed his nails trimmed and to be brushed. So 2 hours and 15 minutes for something I’m typically used to being 45 minutes and the clear appearance that it’s not busy.Then when she brings my dog out I see red marks on his head. My first thought was that his head was clipped with clippers and he bled. But I thought it could’ve been self inflicted in the kennel too, but nothing like that has ever happened before and I’ve had my dog for 4 years. The groomer agreed that it was probably self inflicted in the kennel. So I walked out and went home and when I got home saw his leg bleeding. Again, looked like it had been clipped.Now outraged, I called corporate to file a complaint and they told me to call the store manager. How in the world can I not file a complaint but instead have to speak to a manager. I don’t think I’ll be continuing pet grooming services with Petco.

The manager with all these tattoos is always so negative and not as helpful when I inquire about purchasing fish. He refuses to allow me to purchase certain fishes and does so without adequate knowledge. He will tell me some quick fast answer as to why he can not sell me the type of fish I desire. He is always very rude and he is also passive aggressive with his approach. I do not recommend this location try the one in Durham they are always very helpful and very calm and friendly upon approach.

Took my lab mix for bath, Megan was quick, professional, thorough, and pleasant. I would rate her and her service 5 stars, I knocked off a star because I did not appreciate the check out process. I am sure that it makes sense for them, but it was a little bit of a nuisance to have to pay up front rather than at the salon.

I place an order online for pickup. The store failed to give me some of my items. When I got home and called the store - the manager refused to issue a refund unless I came back to the store which is an hour away. The manager claimed it was against Petco policy. I called Petco corporate and had a refund and extra rewards for the trouble in less than 10 minutes. The manager on duty Feb 2, 2024 at closing is an absolute dirtbag and completely incompetent.

We have brought our dogs, first Missy and now Artie, both small, bitey, barky terriers here for the past few years. Brian is always great.Artie looks so handsome after this last grooming! He is not an easy dog to groom, we are sort of specific about what we want and Brian always remembers and delivers!The store and grooming area are always clean and staff is pleasant and helpful. We will continue to bring Artie here for his grooming.

I took my pup for a much needed summer haircut and my experience was impeccable!Theo was so knowledgeable and comforting for my sweet boy. He explained to me the different lengths and what he was going to do and how long it would take. He took the time to get to know Gator & comfort him before he took him back!When I got Gator back 2 hours later, he looked amazing! He was super soft, had a great haircut everywhere, and smelled amazing. Theo again took the time to explain what he did and how Gator was during the process.I could not be more pleased! Definitely going back to see Theo soon!

We have visited this CH location for saltwater aquarium needs. The employees that work that area have always been exceptionally nice and helpful with our questions.The lizards and other small creatures look happy. I'm sure there's some level of "chain store care" going on, but I've never had anything but good experiences here. Kitties on the side are happy, too.

The dog grooming team at this location is awesome. We have had a great experience with Donna. No one has been able to cut our dogs nails, and she is somehow able to pull it off. Plus, he looks and smells great afterwards.I can't speak to the quality of the overall store itself, but I would definitely recommend Donna in the Grooming Department.Thanks!

I was nervous to bring my dog to the training but Jessika has made us feel so welcome. With only 3 out of 7 classes completed she is excellent. The petco set up was just right.

Beware of karen at this store. Called her at 11ish on July 24th, I ask to donate two gerbil. She was very rude and her tone showed she was annoyed. Especially I told her repeatedly that I couldn’t hear her. She was upset that I couldn’t pronounce gerbil right! English being my third languages. I have enough education to get hired and fire her with the way she’s working. I have never ever had an issue with petco before. Love the place, but this is my first ever bad experience in years of being a loyal customer. Love the store. Don’t recommend the worker. Try finding a boy or someone so you don’t have deal with her attitude. Just a nice tip while shopping here. Hope that woman is as ugly as her attitude like holy it’s upsetting and funny. She gonna cause a protest to treat out of country trilinguals better lol. What a rude person. Told me “look here” and stuff

Love this store! I have to admit that a few months ago, it was pretty rough. empty shelves, lack of customer service, and short hours. But the past couple of months they have really tightened up ship! Employees are very helpful, their hours have gotten back to normal so I can stop by after work which is a huge bonus! and stock-wise it looks like they have caught up. I have been there on several occasions and Chris and Jan were super helpful. It would be even better if their grooming department opened back up!!!!

I get my pet snacks here, but I always cry walking past the birds. The cages are small and have poor enrichment. Parrots are especially social. I hope they stop selling animals here because it's clear they are neglected.

I'm incredibly upset about what the groomers did to our dog. They wounded him while giving him his haircut, taking off a chunk of the skin on his chest. It looks like they cut his hair with their eyes closed because the sides were uneven and they took off one of his eyebrows. He's so sad and I'm worried about his health.

I always love going here. The staff in this location is so friendly and welcoming and always make me feel at home. They take great care of their animals and you can tell they really care about the other creatures on this earth! This store has a great selection and the staff is very knowledgeable.

This store is in a strip mall, like most Petco stores. I was looking for unstuffed cow hooves, which Petsmart does not sell. I found their prices to be lower than Petsmart, although inflation has definitely hit, like everywhere else. They had a very good selection of dog toys to put treats in, as well as cow and pig parts for treats. A friendly employee approached me as I was wandering around in search of the cow hooves and took me to them. The only complaint I have about this store is that the parking lot was extremely full and a space was hard to find.

Save yourself the trouble. Go elsewhere or call ahead to avoid probable disappointment and waste of time. This store is in complete chaos, it's employees complaining openly about wages and being short-staffed. They appear to be on strike.Once a reasonably good location, enormous pallets of supplies sit in the corner for days or weeks before they are shelved. When you ask for pretty much anything, they will tell you they don't have it, that it's probably sitting in the pallet by the door, but they may not get around to unpacking any of it for "quite a while". When this happened a few days ago, I was instructed to "call again in a few days". I replied that it was going to be more than a few days before I would be calling again.When I've been there, employees seem to be available to wade into the job of shelving these products, but no attempts are made. If you ask them to look, or offer to do it yourself, they simply deny your request. On the increasingly rare occasion when you find what you are looking for on the mostly bare shelves (all birds and mammals have been removed from this location), it's often above the wrong price or product description and you have another unpleasant surprise at the cash register that will yield no apology from habituated staff.This is a real dumpster fire of an operation right now and you'll probably be better off giving it a miss. I prefer to support local businesses when possible, but this store is not making it possible.

Purchased a dog bed that was supposed to be “highly durable” but my dog still chewed through it in a few days. Not only did the team at Petco give me a full refund, but they also helped me find another product that was a better fit even though I had to purchase it elsewhere. The definition of excellent customer service in my opinion. This made me a customer for life and I highly recommend.

They displayed a dying leopard gecko with parasite for sale that was so skinny that you could practically see their skull. When we ask the manager about it he pretty much brushed us off and said that he had seen worse and that the gecko had a vet appointment on Monday. The gecko was housed with other leopard geckos that were not in as serious condition but all of there were much skinnier than they should be. The manager in question was very rude and dismissive. We told him that it was very likely that the gecko in question had a very infectious parasite called cryptosporidium and that every other leopard gecko that is currently in there will get this parasite and any animals that are placed in there in the future will also most likely get it. He practically rolled his eyes at our statements and said “we’re dealing with it” dismissively

The new manager at this Petco does not care for animals and it shows. I visited on 1/7/23 and saw a dying leopard gecko, picture attached. This animal was completely emaciated, you could see its skull and spine. We brought this up to the manager, who proceeded to dismiss our concerns and rolled his eyes when I told him that it probably had a lethal parasite called cryptosporidium. He was rude and said that he's seen animals come in "much worse," which is extremely concerning as I'm not really sure how a gecko can be worse than this.I co-direct a local nonprofit reptile rescue and have experience with hundreds of medical cases just like this. I'm also in vet school to become an exotic animal vet. Please, do NOT buy any animals from this store (or ANY pet store)--this gecko was being housed with others and there is a high chance that all of the geckos have crypto, which is extremely contagious and cannot be cured.While the manager said the gecko had a vet appointment Monday, I'm not sure it'll even be alive then. This animal should have been to the vet weeks if not months ago. It should NOT be on display and for sale, being housed with other animals. This is disgustingly poor welfare and the manager should be fired as he clearly does not have the ethics to be working with live animals.

This review is only related to the grooming department at the Chapel Hill location. I dropped by dog off for an appointment in December. When I picked her up, I noticed she didn't look as tidy as she normally does. Upon further inspection at home, I started to think, was she even washed at all. She was still dirty, hair did not look brushed out - just not what we typically get when we take her to Petco for grooming. I figured it was a one off and let it go this one time. Fast forward to a couple of months later, we take her to the Durham location. The groomer there was amazing. She also told us the Chapel Hill location flagged our dog in the system and said she needed too much extra time because she gets nervous AND to not to schedule her if they're busy. We were also informed the Chapel Hill notification should have discussed this with us so we were aware (they did not). The groomer in Durham also noted our dog did just fine and said she felt the comments were unwarranted. Once I learned about this information, I tried to call the Chapel Hill store to get more information. Turns out their grooming department is now permanently closed which is probably for the best considering they were scamming customers and not relaying important information.

They have a dying geko for sale and the manager doesn't care, she said she seen worse when confronted about it. Why have a heartless manager who doesnt care about the wellbeing of the animals and is also rude when spoke too. Go to "bewild reptile rescue" on Facebook if you wanna see for yourself.
