Sad to see the state of Phydeaux. I used to really love traveling from Durham with my dog to pick out a special toy and treat - I would literally go out of my way. Made the trek in rush hour for my dogs birthday tomorrow and the selection is a tenth of the quality it once was. The bakery treats used to look like they were really made with love and now they’re something I’d see at Petsmart. The toy selection used be vast and now the toys look much cheaper yet are still pricy.Total bummer! Will not be making the trip again.

I bought a gold fish from this store and died within 48 hours. I’m absolutely devastated. And the staff told me to buy stuff for my fish that wasn’t actually necessary. I use to shop at Phydeaux before feeders and I’m devastated. I will not come back

Oh my gosh I used to love this store. It was once a fabulous boutique store with the best treats, beds, and anything you could possibly want for your furry friend. I went today to get some of the normal things I typically buy here for our dog, and I cannot even express how disappointed I am that they’ve finally evolved into Feeders from Phydeaux. It’s now a glorified Petco. The things I typically buy they no longer carry, the big bully sticks I have always purchased are not the same, and the complete rearrangement of the store is awful with a big focus on fish and other types of reptile supplies. Again, it’s a glorified Petco. It’s not special anymore- it’s like every other pet store focused on the same products and profits. What a shame.

loved phydeaux when it was a locally owned store but it’s just such a soulless box store now. confusing new store layout, cheapening of product, and nothing in stock. the staff was helpful and great but they seem miserable, so I hope they are being paid and treated well (doubt it!). very sad to see what Feeders has done to this beloved store!!

Have been shopping here faithfully for about 3 years now and always had great experiences shopping in store and online. I also appreciated that it was locally owned. Sadly, it was recently sold to a commercial company. Now the prices are much higher and the website for online shopping is glitchy and never has the items I need, despite them being in stock at the store. Makes sense to still stop by when in a pinch, but otherwise now more convenient, affordable to go to chewy or one of the other big companies.

Even though it is no longer locally owned, I feel the Phydeaux Chapel Hill location is a well run store with a great product selection.I have already bought several items here for my red miniature girl Dachshund, Basil. She loves her Squishmallows shark dog bed, in which I often see her snuggling, sometimes under her blanket. Basil also loves several of the toys I have bought her at Phydeaux (But, I have to be careful when buying her toys because her powerful jaws can tear apart ninety percent of dog toys within only a few minutes). Basil especially loves the cute iced dog cookies that are behind the glass case in store. I most recently bought her four of the several Halloween cookies on sale for the Halloween season. She loved every one of them! Each time I yelled, "Basil, here's one of your cookies," she very excitedly ran over to devour the cookie as fast as possible.One suggestion I would like to make to Phydeaux is to always have in stock several of the Wobble Wag Giggle balls. Basil has three of them, two for the outside and one for the inside. It is her favorite toy! She loves it so much she seems possessed by dog demons whenever she plays with it!

Feeders has systematically dismantled every part of Phydeaux that made it special. Phydeaux USED to be the best deal in town on treats, food, and litter. Feeders increased prices AND decreased quality. Phydeaux USED to carry only quality, nutritionally accurate foods for cats and dogs with no soy, corn, or animal byproducts. Now, Purina, Hill’s and Royal Canin have large spaces in store after Feeders stopped carrying some quality smaller brands. They carry SPORTSMIX for gods sake. Phydeaux USED to offer full-time hours, benefits, insurance, and competitive pay. Phydeaux USED to provide thorough staff training on all products and nutrition, making the staff extremely knowledgeable and able to answer in depth questions. Walking around the “new” Phydeaux saddens me now- under Feeders, it became everything Phydeaux stood against. The only reason I held off writing a review is because of the awesome, knowledgeable, friendly staff who are the only reason I still support this business. But now those longtime employees have been forced out. Feeder’s SANITIZED this local business. Why buy a thriving local business only to turn it into a worse version of Petsmart?

Large and well curated store for the sophisticated pet and customer. I enjoy going there, they are generous with food samples and work a lot with local animal rescues and adoptions. Higher end food and toys, as such, it isn't cheap. Parking is easy and the operating hours are generous. You can bring your pet into the store.

The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and welcoming toward out new greyhound. It's quite a treat for our dog just to come to the store. They're in a convenient but low-visible location. I drove by for years without realizing they were there.

I don't understand what is going on with the rebrand to "feeders". The selection is NOT the same, I'm confused - several of the brands I counted on are now marked down in a separate section, are y'all discontinuing these items? I used to make regular trips to this location but now I do only when I'm already in the area. There are far fewer cat toys and raw snack options. Will this change once the rebrand is complete? "New name, same great selection" is misleading and feels like fraud the longer this takes.

Updating to reflect the sell out to become part of the Feeders chain: Now this place is no different from Petsmart or Petco and it's been a true loss of great local business. Many of their products carried for small animals are poor quality and contain ingredients harmful to your pet. If you shop here, PLEASE read the labels before you purchase anything, for the safety of your pets.My original review when this was Phydeaux, a locally owned supply store: My only stop for pet supplies. Prices are similar to the bigger chain stores, but with a local impact! Great selection for small animals / pocket pets.

Don't believe their web site. They are no longer "an independent, locally-owned pet store". They were bought by Feeders of Louisville in February and are now a member of a major change. Still seemed OK the last time I went in, but I don't doubt we'll see some damage come of this. And I don't like patronizing a chain that sells animals instead of supporting shelters.

One of the best pet stores around. The employees are always kind and excited to help, and they’re so good with my pup who can get nervous. I left my wallet in my car and they hung out with her while I ran outside to get it! They have such a wide variety. I don’t let myself go unless I have a good amount of money I know I’m willing to spend and part with! I love this store. Always way better than any chain!

This used to be my favorite pet store before it was bought out by feeders. Now they never have things in stock, the prices have skyrocketed, and I no longer see any familiar faces. The wet food I buy doubled in price. Find somewhere else to go.

So, so sad to write this, but I'm even more devastated that I can no longer find my kitty's favorite toys locally.I used to stop into Phydeaux at least once a week to buy my kitty's favorite toys, food, litter, and "splurge" on cat trees/scratchers. His absolute favorite toys are the "da bird" line and Phydeaux was one of the only places in the area that carried the individual attachments...Every since they were bought, they've been completely out of those toys -- I've asked and staff has told me that they'll be in stock soon, but it has been over two months now and I've stopped in every other week and each time they've been out and their entire cat toy selection gets smaller and smaller...I'm so sad -- I've been into the store at least 5 times now without finding any of the toys my kitty loves that were previously supplied locally by this store only. I think today was sadly my last trip in since the store has gone downhill :/ I loved supporting local and trying to reduce the amount of ~things~ in general that I buy online, but at this point the impact from me driving to the store to find none of the items that I've previously purchased here (despite being less than 5 minutes away) is a more significant environmental impact than just purchasing my kitty's things online...

This store was awesome! They have a large variety of items for your pet and staff was helpful. I wanted to get a new harness for my dog but didn’t know the right size to get and the young lady working at the store spent about 30 min with me trying and adjusting the harness I selected. Will be back!!

The staff is always so friendly and helpful when we go in there! It's a pretty big store with a lot of selection as well. We've also ordered delivery services from there and they have never disappointed. We get everything on time and at a good price!

Just started visiting a couple of months ago for my Furbaby's needs! Both locations are awesome. Excellent plethora of options, such a plus for my pup who has serious food and environmental allergies. Great Customer Service! Love that they're friendly with food samples. Love bringing my pup when I need to re-stock. Highly recommend.

Editing my review: my former review was for PRIOR to being sold. Phydeaux is no longer a small, independent business and has been sold to what looks like a Petco/PetSmart knock off. After reviewing their business practices (selling lower quality foods, aggressive rewards sign up tactics, selling small animals including birds), I will not be bringing my business here anymore. My family and friends will be shopping small instead of with whatever it is that crawled into the husk of Phydeaux and took over.Great store with high quality pet items! I really like there's a great range of affordability at Phydeaux that doesn't sacrifice on quality of the products offered. They're always very friendly and helpful, and checkout is always swift! I seriously drive from Durham just to shop here and I 100% think it's worth it.

**Edit: I feel the need to edit this review. I have been a loyal patron for many years. My dog eats a small brand that very few stores carry, but you do. I come in to pick up food, and usually leave with multiple boxes of treats, new leashes, toys, etc. I drive from almost an hour away and have loved these stores. I was in the other day and learned that you have been bought out by a chain. To say I was disappointed and disheartened is an understatement. You guys were the alternative to corporate pet stores. I’ve done my research on the new owners and they don’t seem to have the same business mindset… The new company sells animals, whereas you would encourage rescue groups. I’m sad to say I won’t be back. I’ll find another store to support, or buy straight from the manufacturer.Love this store! Cutest dog stuff around, they carry our food, and the employees are knowledgeable and friendly! It’s always clean, and well stocked. And the best thing is they have adoption events on weekends to help local rescues! Great stores!! 5 stars!

If they sold snake food and supplies they would be perfect 😉 but seriously I will never shop for dog and cat food + supplies anywhere else as long as I live in North Carolina. They are wonderful. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful. I love the free delivery service! It makes it so easy to get what I need with my busy schedule. Extra thanks to Arthur and Drew and the rest of the delivery team!

This is one of the best stores I've been to ever. Best customer service ever from the person helping me (didn't catch her name but receipt says "HRB"). She spent a lot of time making sure my somewhat nervous new pooch Hazel had a harness and collar that fits well. Did amazing job winning Hazel over with treats and then also helped me pick out a few other things, before giving us free samples of dog food when I said I was trying to work out what to feed her. Can't recommend highly enough!

This is one of the best pet supply stores I've been to. The people there are very friendly and helpful. We bought a drinking fountain for our cat and the cashier showed us how to put it together, gave us recommendations on how to clean it, and told us if we had questions to just come by and ask about it since he and at least one other employee had them for their pets as well! They have lots of good quality pet food and tons of toys. They are very pet friendly, have yet to go in there without seeing at least three animals in the building!

Agree with previous reviewer. It use to be my favorite pet store. After owner changed a lot of changes. Prices are too high now. It is time to shop online.
