The owner is friendly and the store is nice and organized. Beautiful display tanks and a good selection of everything in stock. This is one of 2 stores I’ve found in all the ones I’ve visited in NC and VA that truly has “live rock”! The store in VA charged 3x the amount. You can see it cycling in the store. He also has coral colonies in addition to frags. Every time I go in, I find something new. He has good prices and I love stopping in and visiting when I’m in the area. He stays busy. He isn’t a person that hovers over you the whole time you’re in there, but is someone that will answer any questions and is very knowledgeable. Today while in the store I watched him help several customers. Bagging fish, weighing rocks, selling water that is mixed at the store, helping others select products they need, and even testing a lady’s water. I’ve read in prior posts that he just stood behind counter and didn’t speak. Not sure where people get that. He has never chased me down like a car salesman, but always positive and friendly. I’ve bought saltwater fish, inverts, corals, and a clam. Everything I’ve purchased is healthy and has been living for months now. Look forward to going my next trip to Cary. Thanks Mike!

Exceptional customer service! I have had fish aquariums and raised freshwater fish since I was 10 years old, now I'm 43 and getting ready to setup a new 75 gallon acrylic African Cichlid tank. After shopping all the big box stores and growing disgusted at their selections and how they treat their fish, I decided to give this place a try. Right away I was greeted by Drew who answered my 1000 questions I threw at him, and ended up buying 35 lbs of rock, 4 bags of gravel, a new wave maker, and 3 new cichlids to add to my school. Drew was patient (especially with my two kids being there) and was super helpful to my every need. Once I made my transaction, his co-worker brought all the heavy stuff out my SUV and loaded it for me! Talk about top notch service! I will return for my aquarium needs! Thanks guys!

I bought a clown pleco, a blue dwarf gourami and a sunset gourami a few weeks ago there. The clown pleco was appearing white in their tank, and I asked the person if he was sick or if it was just his color. The person said he was just a whiter clown pleco. After I put him in my tank he changed color and became black. So I guess the person didn’t know what he was talking about. Also, said pleco had Ich disease, which I caught too late and caused the pleco to die, the two gouramis to die and another previous fish of mine that I’d been having for a long time to die too -this morning. I am very sad.I am now treating my tank and hoping the other fishes will make it.

I always enjoy visiting this store in Cary. Mike is always very helpful and knowledgeable and doesn’t mind answering any questions that my wife or I may have. They have a great selection here and you never know what unique things that you may find. My wife purchased a sea hair from here on our last visit. Great prices , great selection and great customer service.

Every single fish I have purchased from here has died within days of purchasing it. I have never had this problem with any other fish store. I had recommended this store to a friend months ago and he went through the same thing. It has been such a waste of time and money coming to this store.

My only complaint about this place is that it isn't closer to where I live. David and Patrick are very knowledgeable and the store has everything you need at a decent price. These guys know their stuff and are super helpful and friendly.

Fantastic conditions for freshwater and saltwater fish. Fish room has been around for a while and well known for their care in fish. We bought some beautiful platies, gouramis, and a dwarf crawfish (they have shrimp too). Very knowledgeable and great diverse stock in healthy and pretty fish.

Picked up a blue crayfish today from Fish Room. Don't know if it is a boy or girl, so we named it lady blue. The staff was very patient and helpful. Even though they were packed. I highly recommend buying your fish and supplies here.

In a world where buying live fish over the internet, sight unseen, has become the norm, it's wonderful to still have a brick and mortar aquarium and fish store nearby. Being able to talk to knowledgeable people and pick out your fish (avoiding tanks with floaters) is priceless. I've had all kinds of aquarium set-ups over the years from undergravel-filter Oscar tanks to heavily planted, biofiltered tropicals and coral-lined brackish tanks and I still get new tips and tricks from the caring staff at Fish Room. Maybe someday I'll delve into a saltwater tank set-up, and I hope Fish Room will still be around to help me.PetsMart is good for supplies in a crunch, but I've gotten bad advice from undertrained staff who just want to sell you something. And online-purchased fish haven't worked well for me. I highly recommend Fish Room for aquariums, fish, supplies and good advice.

This location is wonderful and alot less busy than the Raleigh location. All staff members are attentive and friendly. My aquarium is beautiful and filled with healthy, happy fish.

Amazing experience here. Very helpful staff, willing and able to answer complicated or simple questions, it can be crowded but they always are willing to help so the wait isn’t that long. There’s a good selection of fish and they’re willing to trade out if something doesn’t work out in your tank and will give you store credit. It feels like they are there for the customers experience rather then strictly for money. Highly recommend.

They have plenty of tanks they could of keep the Bata fish in that would keep them separated but they choose to keep them in tiny bowls where they have no space to swim.

I've been coming here for 5+ years. They have a selection that is far greater than your local chain pet store. I recently went back in June of 2023 and it was great. Prices were affordable for the variety of fish offered. I keep freshwater and saltwater fish in several tanks and can tell you that 95% of the people looking to stock a tank from beginner to advanced will find the fish offered here at some point. I purchased a dozen fish and all are happy and thriving two weeks later.(6/23/23 edit: Spoke too soon. Ich in my tank. I only deal with individuals and haven't had an ich problem in years. The only introduction could have been from the fish room purchase. Fool me for at least the 5th time in a row. Edited a 4 star review down to 2.)That being said, I stopped going here for a few years because it was always sick fish, dead fish in tanks, or ich on the fish in the store (the tanks are plumbed together so it can spread throughout the system easier). I was burned a few times in a row and just stayed away and found other people/places to get fish. The older reviews were justified, but I think something has changed.(6/23/23 edit: It hasn't changed. Purchase fish at your own risk.)I noticed there weren't any live plants in any of the fish tanks, so the store might be treating all the water to prevent disease. The shop is on the smaller side and I doubt they have the space to quarantine fish from the wholesaler. If you can't quarantine, it's a good plan to prophylactically treat your system to stop disease from taking hold (edit: In my case a bottle of api super ich cure $17 was about 1/2 the price I paid for the fish. Again, consider this treatment cost when buying fish here)I read the reviews with complaints about customer service. I personally like being left alone to observe the fish and you should spend some time doing this. Mike approached me after 15 minutes in the store asking if I had any questions and I told him which fish I wanted. He didn't pressure me or hover, which I appreciate. I've never had an issue before finding someone to net fish.

Husband and I were really excited today to check out their rock centerpieces for our new 75gal tank. To our disappointment the store was shut down and completely closed during normal business hours. No sign indicated the reason for closure. When calling the Raleigh location of the fish room they claimed they had no affiliation to Cary location and couldn't provide a reason to why the Cary location was closed. Poor management overall.

I just went the other day and had a great first experience. I'm starting my first ever aquarium and came in just to look around for ideas while my tank is cycling. I upgraded my daughter’s tank to a 10 gallon and we only had 3 little neon tetras. The staff was super knowledgeable about what kind of fish get along well with tetras. All of their fish look very well taken care of and the tanks were so clean! Will definitely be coming back!

Had a great experience here getting assistance clearing out my old tank's occupants for more interesting fish! They took my surrendered intro-level fish and gave plenty of advice on new fish, tank mate compatibility etcReally great place, amazing stock. If you haven't given this place a chance in a while, I recommend it -- they seem to have really changed since I visited a year ago! Great job to management and their team!

Mike is very knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions. There were several tanks of freshwater and saltwater fish. They were all clean and super clear! Viewing all of the exotic fish and coral etc. was in itself worth the visit.

I am a newer hobbyist and have been shopping at this store for the last 6 months. The store owner and employees have always been polite and respectful. I feel like they have gone above and beyond when I come to the store with 50 questions and they give me honest answers and opinions without upselling me or shrugging me off as a newbie. General selection of living creatures and supplies is great. I do wish their store was open a little earlier! (part-time job, guys? Trustworthy and reliable - will work for fish food!) Been to both Fish Rooms multiple times the last two years. I like this one the best (I only go to the Capitol Boulevard location if I’m on that side of town and need food). They don’t charge to test water, and when your learning that is awesome. Because of that every time I go in I buy something. They really care about your tank and fish and your success.

We walked in and didn’t get greeted . Every other person that walked in the door besides my family and I got greeted . We waited 15 minutes to see if anybody was gonna approach us and help us but we got ignored . The guy working there literally stared at us & completely avoided our existence. I got treated better at a petco by a 16 year old than a grown man .

I love the guys at Fish Room! The store is clean, I’ve never seen a dead fish in any of their tanks. They are really knowledgeable and super helpful when I have an issue. Their pricing is extremely reasonable. I go to get RO water every 3ish months and all the fish, snails, shrimp and plants I’ve purchased from them are healthy and live long lives. I highly recommend Fish Room!
