Helpful staff. I know it is a supply store but the sales room seemed dirtier than it should be. Could be that it is an older building and run down. The important thing is that I got what I needed.

We visited this location in order to browse their plant selection. We asked two different employees questions about their carnivorous plants, and they both responded with attitude and exacerbation. It was to the point where we didn’t feel comfortable asking anymore questions or buying plants. I can say this was surprising seeing as how small businesses are usually the opposite. Hopefully this isn’t the norm.

Incredible selection of healthy plants far beyond local garden centers, Lowe’s, Walmart or Home Depot! Plants have 1 year guarantee as long as they are planted in the ground and all staff were knowledgeable, especially loved Jane.

The plant selection and quality are fantastic (and noticeably better than the big box stores), and I appreciate their avoidance of invasive/harmful species. I also appreciate their selection of mulch/rocks/soil/misc items. Prices are very reasonable. One does occasionally run into a rude employee - but I'm giving everyone the benefit of the doubt nowadays, and I feel the aforementioned pros far outweigh this con.

They'll have everything you need for your garden conveniently in downtown carrboro. I've gotten seeds, bulbs, hay, seed potatoes, seedlings, fertilizer, succulent soil, seed starter soil, pots and more. But be aware it is quite pricey.

They have high quality plants at a reasonable cost as well as many garden tools and other supplies. They carry a variety of seed that include wildflowers unavailable anywhere else. Jams, honey, and candy are sold there. Bird feeders and Audubon bird seed are sold at a very reasonable price. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Well, it's a national chain, however the local staff and manager are wonderful. Honest and helpful. I've gone in for small engine repairs, and when the chainsaw still didn't work they found an overlooked part need, and completed the repair for free. All I could ask. And, great plant selection, especially during value times.

The staff is very nice and they have a wide variety of plants available at all times. they’re all very high quality and have lived over six months in my house. i would definitely purchase from them again. they have all outlived my plants from big box stores like home depot and lowes

If you don't like getting animal food and supplies from a big box store then this is a great place to check out. Good prices on dog food in larger sizes (I paid $20 for a 50lb bag). Friendly staff.

After seeing all the other 1 star reviews, my experience at this store today makes sense. This place has the worst customer service I HAVE EVER SEEN. One of the employes actually pushed me out of the way to get to something on the counter and then GOT IN MY FACE when I said something about it. I have never expereinced anything like that in a retail business before. The manager came over and the employee continued to casue problems until the manager finally said "Larry you need to chill". Well Larry, I hope you get fired and find a job that suits you better. Maybe as a prison guard.

Not very friendly staff. And they are a bit inept at following their convoluted system for placing orders. What should have taken 2 people and 5 minutes took 20 minutes and 6 people. I doubt I will go again and will try carpenter supply Co instead where the staff does not seem to hate their job.

As a homeowner in Carrboro, having Southern States in the neighborhood comes in really handy. Whether it is yard hand tools like rakes and shovel or chainsaws and leaf blowers, Southern States has good inventory and high quality products. Their staff is also accessible and knowledgeable. While prices are typically more expensive than Lowe's and Home Depot, it's really not that much more expensive and some items are cheaper. The quality of their service and live plants is better than the big box stores and saving time and mileage makes Southern States preferable over larger stores.

I love going to Southern States. Gorgeous plants, practical tools, local wares, overalls, dog food- what more do you need in life?? Plus the staff are always friendly and helpful. They sell mosquito eradicators for $20 that are saving my life this spring!

Pretty good selection, although fruit tree inventory was very limited this year. Focus on equine farming and feed and city gardener. Purchased a few onion sets to plant in garden. The suggested 16" or so tall double paper bag with lots of glue weighed at least 5x the weight of the dozen or so onions. (Used a plastic bag from checkout, but find the ridiculously overweight bag provided very underhanded way to overcharge).

This is the coolest store just to look around in. Wine bar, epic international candy section, cool kitchen gadgets, tons of local products and gifts. Unparalleled wine selection for the area. The prices are a little higher than you'd expect, but you couldn't get most of the stuff they sell outside of a special order catalog anyways. Definitely stop here if you are looking for that unique gift.

Just moved here full time and wanted to plant some plants. Our experience was less that optimal and the employee that helped us was very rude and ended up just walking away, although we were just asking questions. Have no idea her role, but based on a previous review, sound like someone else may have run into her as well.
