I started using this Food Lion after YEARS (20+ years to be exact) of using the one around the corner on 54. I have only been coming here for maybe 7 months. It was the best until the self checkout went in. Why is it that Walmart and Target are talking about getting rid of the self checkout because of revenue loss but FL puts it in?! It irritates me to no end that FL now relies on self checkout and doesn’t have another checkout option at all at times. Not that FL reads these, though.

So long. We had a good run. You wanted to end it, so I will let you go.This is not the rich man's Food Lion and, unlike the rich man's Food Lion up the road, this Food Lion offered cashier check out until closing. They have put an end to that, replacing the cashier with the most absurdly small, inconvenient automatic check out stations where every station sounds like it's talking to you simultaneously.Over several visits I have witnessed more than a dozen people being told they have no cashier option and, without exception, they assume the look of someone who has just had a person they once trusted stick a saliva-covered finger in their ear.I was told to conclude my shop prior to 10:30 pm to avoid this significant inconvenience with my large shops. When they shut the cashier down before 10:30, I was told to conclude my shop by 10. Now, I am told I will need to conclude my shop by 9 PM, but "there are no guarantees".That's just not good enough. For anyone with limited mobility or other health issues, it can take >10X as long to conduct a self-checkout. The stations are much too small to accommodate anything but the smallest of shops.I have good reason to shop when I do and, if forced to endure the inconvenience of self-checkout for a large shop, I will head to Harris-Teeter which has a superior selection and larger automatic checkout stations.This is the latest drop off in service and atmosphere for the Jones Ferry location. Just a year ago, both entrances were open until closing and most of the staff were friendly long-term employees who connected beautifully with customers, most of whom they knew. A great many of those employees were dismissed. Most management is no longer familiar.What was once a warm, friendly, wonderfully diverse shopping experience has gradually assumed a chilly and authoritarian air, though there are still many truly lovely--and utterly powerless--employees.I must recommend that elderly and movement-limited people avoid this location after 7 PM. Assurances from management in re the availability of cashier checkout are unreliable. Finally, this is a completely unnecessary and anti-consumer move by Food Lion. Even people who have small shops and are comfortable with self-checkout take twice as long as an average cashier. People who are not comfortable and have large shops can take 10, even 20X as long.The cashier that would be processing customers efficiently now spends about 90% of her time over-riding automated checkout mistakes as customers wait. It's not unusual for most of the stations to be locked up, progress stopped for all completely.So, good luck and best wishes. Let me know if you rescind this dehumanizing and customer-unfriendly policy. If you do, I will return with my $800 per month. If not, it's been good knowin' ya.

this food lion is smaller than the other one a mile away (on 54) but i prefer this one (though i like the other one, too!)this store is smaller, especially the produce department, but i feel like the items there are fresher because of the smaller space. they also have a lot of vegetarian products (frozen) that aren't available at the other store.the cashiers are always friendly. i do wish they had self check-out, but that's a me thing!

The cashier who helped me was nice and the store was nice enough. I felt the selection was poor—for instance I found battered shrimp, but not plain uncooked shrimp in the seafood section. Also, their brand is well priced, but everything else seems pricey.

This food lion is for the folks that don't know how to get to carrboro plaza. I'm mostly kidding because I've actually been hate crimed and robbed at carrboro plaza and I never had trouble at this one except yesterday they were out of ice. When I was robbed outside of the other food lion I was still young, so it shaped my entire future. It molded me. Food lion scarred me for life, but I still go back. It's like Stockholm syndrome or something.

This is my first experience at this store, and I’m regretting not going sooner. I had an amazing experience here, ten times better than every experience I’ve ever had at Harris Teeter, Lowe’s foods, Wegmans, Walmart, etc. The produce was extremely fresh and fully stocked. A worker was walking around and cleaning/organizing/restocking the produce too and seemed to be doing a great job at it. The cashier who checked me out was very nice while also being very efficient. I would recommend this grocery store to anyone, especially if you want GREAT groceries for really good prices. The customer service was great, and they really do a great job at taking care of the food to make sure it’s fresh. 10/10 experience

Produce looked great today! Found what I needed. Very well stocked and the meat cases filled with nice options. It would be great if they open a wing bar like the one in Carrboro Plaza. Wish there was a bit more enthusiasm at checkout. No one ever seems happy. But this location is close to work and easy to get in and out.

Had the GREATEST experience with a guy by the name of Doug yesterday. He was very kind and helped me find everything that I was looking for in the store. He had the friendliest smile and demeanor. This one experience had me ecstatic about continuing to work at this store. Mr Doug thank you so much for your kindness and professionalism!!

Come in about 11:00am on 8/16 and ask the cashier if western Western Union was open. She said she didn't know and ask me why?... I told her I needed to purchase a money order. Then she tells me Western Union is down. I ask if there was a manager around and rather than answering my question she tells me that customer service is closed. That's ok. I can get a money order elsewhere but I do business with this store on a weekly basis. Sometimes twice and the regular attitude I get is that I'm inconveniencing the cashiers. Most of the time the cashiers don't even speak. This is not all cashiers I speak of. There are two or three good ones in this store, but the overall customer service is lacking.

I have to trudge around a huge shopping cart for a couple of items because of Coronavirus? Sorry that isn't an acceptable answer. Bring them back and I will have no complaints about this store. Seems like a ploy to get people to get a bigger cart and fill it up with more goods.

Really disappointed with the fact that almost ALL the employees were wearing masks with their noses exposed. Exactly what is the point in even wearing a mask if you aren’t covering your nose? There is a serious lack of management at this grocery store and at a time when a worldwide pandemic is literally killing people. I have to do my part to keep my people safe. I wear a mask all day. It’s not that hard. I sincerely hope you step up and take care of your local community by enforcing the policy to wear masks correctly in such a high risk place.Also shame on y’all who are doing this and acting like it’s no big deal. People are dying. Thank you to the essential workers who are following the rules.

Really good prices on food (especially compared to Harris Teeter) but just the worst staffing and management. No carts. Long lines. Staff seems miserable. This is a case of getting what you pay for. I'd rather shop almost anywhere else.

Clean, well-lit store. Shelves are always well-stocked. Good produce section. Lots of Hispanic food products. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's never a wait at the check-out and there's plenty of parking.

Food Lion is my only choice for my grocery needs! They carry allof the items i would want, at the best reasonal price I have found!The store is very neat and clean and fresh smelling! I have gone into a Harris Teeter, and the moment I stepped inside there was an odor that instantly turned my stomach! One of the products I was looking for, they did not carry ! Another product that I wanted was 2 times more expensive than my Food Lion! I went to the other grocery store because I was right near it and strolled through and left the store empty handed and called a cab to go to my Food Lion! I will never go.into that Harris Teeter no matter how close and will tell them not to enter unless you have money to burn and your nose hasn't got the ability to smell! Food Lion is my Grocery Store!!

Not a great store. And I do like Food Lion. Produce is bad as soon as you get it home. Milk spoils almost instantly. People don’t seem to care very much. I avoid unless I have to run in while at Walgreens.

This Food Lion doesn't get enough love. Cashiers are friendly and it often has stock the other, busier Food Lion down the road is out of.My one complaint is there are no self- checkouts in this location.

I find this to be an ok place to shop but not great. They have the basics at a fair price, but the store itself feels dark and cramped to me. But if you need supplies, they have what you need.
