I wanted to adopt a kitten today. My dog died 4 years ago and since I could not ready to another dog because i loved her too much. I saw this kitten sitting in a cage and filled out application. I was so glad that eventually a new family member soon enter in my house. I have a new house, big lot and full heart of love. But they DID NOT APROVED me because I dont have another pet! I literally cried😭😭😭 next to this kitten. Who created that stupid rule? People, I need emotional support, but ppl there think about animals more than about people. For cat better to sit in a cage months, than go to lovely home. Deep heart disappointed!Updated: if people return pets, it doesnt mean I will return. Whole my life i worked with animals, dogs and cats. I am professional (with zoo degree) breeder. I nursed kittens and puppies from they were born. You can not deny me bc I dont have another pet. I was going to spend 24/7 with this kitten to help him to adopt and reaise him with all my love. Please, be more professional choosing another candidats for your babies. You broke my heart today.

I adopted a 2 year old, female cat from here almost years ago now. I was living in Asheville at the time and really was looking for a friendly and affectionate cat. Omg, I literally cannot even tell you what a little furry ball of joy this cat is. She’s so vocal, playful, and funny. She plays catch, hide and seek, I mean honestly she’s hilarious. Anyway I know this isn’t a review about my cat lol. I just wanted to say that I had a great experience with this place. They really took the time to help me find the right pet for me. They were honest about the other cats temperaments and told me if a cat was any or less warm. I ended up with the best little friend! We’re in New York now and I know she loves her home (and me:) I’m so lucky to have found her!

We adopted our gorgeous girl from this rescue in March, 2021. I occasionally look at the available kitties for adoption on their page and realized I never left a review! She is simply the best little companion. Healthy, strong, and very sweet (and a little crazy). Adopting was a smooth process- We ended up adopting from here on a whim and are so glad we did. Thank you for the gift of our little runt!

Went to the cat adoption day at PetSmart on Bleachery Rd ready to adopt a kitten and give it a forever home. Filled out the paperwork, had kitty carrier in the car. I selected a kitten and was told they preferred I take two kittens. There was nothing in the fine print of adoption that two kittens were mandatory and I preferred to adopt one kitty. Both volunteers would not stop pressuring me to get two. Honestly, it was a bully situation. I left without a kitten and am very disappointed in how the process was handled by the Mountain Pet Rescue organization.

Awesome rescue and people! We had been looking for a pair of black, long hair kittens for almost a year, and kept being second or third to respond. Then, Pip and Iota popped up onto our screen late one night, meeting all our hopes, and we immediately contacted MPRA with our applications. The next morning, after getting adoption approval, we drove 8 hours from Indiana to Asheville to meet and adopt our two little voidlets. They were even cuter and more lovely in person, and they have integrated perfectly with our other cats. They were social, healthy, well-fed, and fully vetted (including fixing). Our vet even commented that the rescue (MPRA) had done an excellent job with them and kept far better records than many adopted pets she sees.Everyone we communicated with during the process was awesome and very helpful, even under the short timeline (~12 hrs) we had to review our application and get back to us. We absolutely would recommend MPRA if you're looking to adopt a pet! We would make the 16-hr round trip again in a heartbeat for these two, and MPRA helped making our long search possible! Thank you all!

Attended the adoption event today at petsmart on bleachers blvd looking for a kitten for my stepdaughter. There was one black kitten available named Maximillian. They told us they prefer to adopt kittens in groups of 2, but we were told that was not a necessity (and considering how few rentals allow even one pet, it is often not feasible). I understand it benefits kittens to stay in groups, but I specifically asked if it was a requirement and was told no. My stepdaughter got really excited and we met with the kitten. She absolutely loved him so I was filling out the adoption application when a different woman came in and told us we could absolutely not take maximillian home because we did not have another kitten already and they had no other kittens available to adopt with him. The disappointment my step daughter felt was pretty intense considering how far we got in the process. I’ve called several other shelters and no one else has this rule. You can adopt a single kitten from any county shelter in the area or brother wolf, but mountain pet rescue claims you MUST adopt two. Strange now that I look at all these reviews where people have adopted a single kitten from them without incident in the past. It seemed they were trying to give priority to the foster who had max and his siblings and was already adopting Ava. Not even sure why the one kitten was ā€œavailable ā€œ if he couldn’t be adopted alone.Don’t waste your time at this rescue unless you are prepared to adopt multiple kittens at once. It was handled very unprofessionally considering I assumed this was a reputable rescue.

I adopted a sibling pair of young cats recently from this organization and I can't say enough how wonderful they are! From the excellent descriptions of their personalities, to the obvious care and love they showed for them while they were in MPRA's care. Peggy was exceedingly knowledgeable and gave wonderful tips that were greatly appreciated. The kitties were so well cared for that they have had very little issue adjusting to their brand new forever home and are already wonderfully cuddly and content. Thank you SO much for everything!!

9 months ago I adopted a cat which they told me was 1 turning 2, she was 8 months turning one and was not bonded with her kittens, nor any other cat despite her age. She also was sick with fully grown worms even though they claim to have their animals on flea and tick medication, and a friend adopted from here also with flea and worm problems. She was well taken care of to the best of my abilities and remained in good health after my care. When I had to surrender her for circumstances out of my control, I received a condescending email response inappropriate for corporate, and later found her at a local Petsmart with an equally rude description despite giving them accurate and considerate information.

Denise is an ardent supporter of animals, and dedicates her entire life to rescuing homeless animals and finding suitable foster placements for them. This organization, which has both cats and dogs for adoption, is foster/volunteer run. When you adopt an animal friend, you know that your new friend has been socialized, and more importantly, loved. Cannot recommend this organization enough. They 100% always put their animals first - not an easy feat.

I had a great experience with Mountain Pet Rescue adopting my new kitten. The staff/volunteers were really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It's clear that they love animals and the adoption process was straight forward. Their website also had much better descriptions of the pets' personalities too.

These folks are the very best. My daughter has adopted 2 sweet babes, and over the course of a few years I have adopted 3. The vets I have taken my babes to, also speak very highly of them. Thank you.

I adopted from this agency and will NEVER adopt from there again. Upon adoption of my cat she was taken to the vet almost immediately for worms, gingivitis and other issues. Even though her paperwork said she had been given something for fleas and ticks she was covered in fleas. Not to mention when reaching out to look to adopt I was met with a rude email assuming that I was not going to keep this cat long term. Stating that cats were not disposable which I am well aware of. As someone who works with rescues for larger animals I have never sent an email with that attitude. Customer service was terrible and I fear for what the other cats may look like upon adoption if mine was adopted in that condition.

We got our precious doggy here from attending a local event. She had been fostered, so they were able to tell us her habits, previous circumstances, fears, and likes. Everyone involved here was more than helpful, kind, and so happy one of their dogs had found a good home.

This place is a joke. They don't care about animals. Worst animal rescue experience I've had in 20 years. Mistreatment, fudging medical records, lack of organization, lack of credentials, list goes on. Should be shut down.

This is the best rescue in Asheville! Everyone is very personable, knowledgeable, and really cares about the animals. Primarily a foster based rescue, every animal gets special attention. Check out their new website!

High priced pet vet. Cost us more to get the cat looked at than a visit to my orthopedic surgeon. Won't go there again unless I feel like spending $500. Oh and they did nothing except put a collar on him

This non profit is do everything they can for our community and surrounding areas. While I was there they received 2 Chihuahuas from another organization. Senior dogs that might not make it at another shelter.

The ladies in here are so helpful and nice. I talked their ear off and I'm sorry, but I had to see if it was a good fit for my dog. I am very confident that they are the place to help

About the hardest place to adopt a pet, had to adopt a pet in another state, cause all the places in this state, charged an enormous fee for a mixed breed, I think they've loss touch with really, and when I was at the out of state shelter, there were other people there adopting, who had to go thru the same problem, with trying to adopt in N.C. I think the State of N.C. needs to investigate this shelters!
