This is such a nice little motel! We got in late, stayed for one night and left relatively early so we unfortunately didn't get to utilize the multitude of amenities they offer. They have kayaks, bikes, fish cleaning stations, a pool, and grills for their guests to use. They also have a small dog run and pet friendly rooms. The service was great and the rooms were clean and comfortable. A HUGE plus (for us) was getting to meet the cats that live on the property. Also make sure you pop in the gift shop attached to the motel, there is so much fun merchandise in there and the owner is very sweet. Overall our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer and enjoy the property, next time we will stay for a few days at least.*Side note* the pain of getting up really early is worth the sunrise view over the ocean. We chose to drive a couple miles to a beach access and it was so worth it.

My friends and I only stay at the Swell. We visit several times a month. The rooms a fresh and clean, and have a great beach vibe with the new renovations that have been completed. I can't say enough positive things about the staff. Laura and her staff are the best. They are friendly, very helpful and want nothing but the best for your stay and it shows. The property is well groomed and inviting. We love being able to pull up our chairs and listen to the live music and enjoy the company of the other occupants. We wish the bands could play all night but understand that the motel is respectful of people's bedtime. Each visit we are inspired by the new additions to help make our stay more enjoyable. And let me tell you about the grilling areas, they provide any cooking option you may need making it easy to feed 1 to 2 or an entire army. We will definitely be back for it is in the perfect location.

This place was AWESOME! The staff is wonderful and so helpful. The grounds were clean and maintained beautifully. The pool was clean and the perfect temperature. The room was cozy and cute. And the motel is walking distance to anything you might need. My husband usually hates staying at motels but he really enjoyed our stay here. We will definitely be returning when we're up that way again from Florida. Thank you Swell Motel!!

We loved our stay here! The outside may look like a (colorful) old motel, but the inside is beautifully renovated and the rooms are spotless! They also had a hotel-wide Netflix accountAll of the staff that we met were friendly and helpful, and they had adorable cats!

This motel is awesome! It is super clean and newly remodeled! I was always A little worried about staying at Motels but this place completely exceeded expectation! They have so much to do just on their property… you can have A fire, grille out, or if you brought your pups with you they have A small fenced in area where you can let them stretch their legs! Once A week they have A band come and play right out front and the pool is clean and in great shape! Only A short walk to the beach and located within walking distance of restaurants and local shops! Staff and Ownership got It right here! They are top notch! 5 Star hands down ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Perfect place for a night …great location within walking to everything. Live music at night, the pool was awesome !!! Very nicely surprised by the Swell. 4 cats roaming around made us smile. Ask for a newly renovated room. Comfy and clean. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend for traveling with kids and for people who like to bring their own food and bbq (grills) and spacious kitchenette for preparing day’s meals . Love it.

Stayed here in June for the first time and we really enjoyed it. The newer room we got was really nice, I love the black out curtains.. and it was always freezing in there. We loved being able to walk across the street for breakfast, we hit the pizza place too, and we did the mini golf and ice cream next door. Almost every time we went to the pool we were the only ones there which was really nice.

The swell motel has a great vibe, I've stayed lots of times.. I'm a smoker too!! But respectfully I smoked outside (they even provided a butt bucket).. They provide extra stuff most places don't!! Free kayak, helmets, bikes, awesome pool with color changing lights!! I've stayed two or three times and will come back again!... To potential renters, ignore the low reviews... An angry customer smoked in a room and got charged.. Having their friends who never stayed leave one star reviews!! Google should take those off!!. Swell motel is the best!! Friendly staff, awesome grill area.Nearby activities: Right in the middle of everything, only five min stroll to the beach!Walkability: Can go anywhere on foot

We stay at the Swell Motel every Spring Break for a baseball tournament, and we look forward to our visit every year. It is a quaint hotel in a prime location, with friendly staff and all the amenities you need for a little getaway. Our kids love the bikes and are on them exploring as soon as we arrive. Add to it that we can bring our bulldogs, and it's a perfect match!

Excellent motel! First time here! Staff was awesome! Clean rooms. The room we stayed in was recently remodeled. Super comfortable beds, beautiful pool, free bicycle and kayak rental, outdoor grilling area with sink and cooking utensils (pots and pans). Also they have a freezer for your bait and any fish you catch! Along with a fish cleaning station! The one and only complaint (if you can even call it a complaint) would be the air conditioning in our room would only work on low cool. When we tried high setting it wouldn't run. Low was barely cutting it. Quite humid and miserable. Walking distance to bait shops, restaurants, shopping and more! Will certainly be back!!!!!

The Swell Motel is better than Swell its amazing! It is obvious how much work, time, love, and consideration the owners and employees put into making this motel an enjoyable place to stay. My family of 5 - 2 adults, 3 kids (13, 5, 4months at the time) stayed in a room and was so accommodating to our family, extra sheet changing and they even had a pack and play that we could use for our stay! We had lots of rain during our stay but we were able to hang by the new the pool to help pass time between the clouds. They also gave us recommendations on places to take the kids and restaurants too. However our favorite restaurant was across the street!My son also followed around Laura like a shadow and she couldn't have been sweeter to him! He's asking to go back every summer to go to the beach and see Laura.When you stay here, you are treated like family, no matter if you are or not! #swellmotelforlife

The hotel smells disgusting of mold and dirty water. Bug poop on the walls and I found roaches. Fraudulent charges made to account. The staff denies any wrong doing on their part and ignores phone calls after ripping off customers. They delete and block anyone who has anything bad to say about their hotel. They like to argue online when they know that they are wrong. This place preys on vacationers from out of town. They will rip you off and then call you a liar. Don't come here unless you are ok with being scammed and treated like a child by incompetent staff. And they try to bribe people into giving good review.

Nice motel! They are really fixing up the old motel remodeling and making everything nice. All of the staff were very helpful! We stayed here 2 nights with our 2 kids and pup. It is super close to the beach, restaurants and a great bait shop. We had a fun time exploring the creek in the back using the kayaks and finding crabs. They had a cookout with live music on Saturday and while I was worried that might keep the kids up it wasn’t loud and the kids had fun.

We stayed here in July for a shorter trip to Buxton. It was perfect! Room was clean, staff was so friendly. All the extras on the property were well thought out (the ice machines, fish cleaning area, tire filling station, clothes lines, 2 cooking areas, and dog run). We tried to stay an extra night but sadly couldn’t because they were booked! Will definitely come back and tell our friends about you guys!!Walkability: Were able to walk across the street for dinner and next door for ice cream!

We stayed at Swell motel for several nights. The room was clean, and though somewhat dated, was well maintained. The whole facility is being remodeled, and the remodeled rooms look great! The owner is friendly and very accommodating with any needs you may have. There are lots of activities that occur on the grounds, like bonfires, live music, etc.. The location is perfect for getting around the OBX. We will be staying again.

My family and several friends stay at the Swell Motel several times a year. You won't find a more friendly staff anywhere on the island. Best hotel on Hatteras Island hands down! Super friendly and hard working staff. We've stayed many many times and are now locals ourselves and enjoy having our guests stay here. The updates the new owners have done are great! VERY comfortable clean rooms with attention to details.. Such a pet friendly welcoming warming vibe.. keep up the hard work yall it shows and is very much appreciated!!

Always enjoy every time we have stayed at the Swell motel...we stumbled on it taking a last minute trip to Buxton. And fell in love with it. Excellent service. Awesome place to stay. Rooms clean great service. We went for a special weekend for my birthday. Upon arriving they were wishing me a happy birthday then checked into room to find birthday sign in room. We always hate when it is time to leave .

Swell motel is a great, updated, mom n pop motel. The rooms are comfy and cozy and so close to the beach, lighthouse and several great restaurants. They've redone the pool after previous damage from one of the many storms and it is amazing! I see that there have been a bunch of negative reviews left because someone was unhappy about being charged the smoking fee. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. They then got all their friends to leave negative reviews even though they haven't stayed at the motel. That's not cool at all and completely unfair to the motel.

Tip: lowercase was the key to the wifi. We stayed at Swell Motel for a night before going to a rental house. We enjoyed the bright, renovated room, friendly people, and a comfortable mattress. We love this area too so relate to the owners' story. Hope someone ate the pastries I forgot. Don't miss Orange Blossom Bakery and Diamond Shoals- delicious!!

Laura and crew run a great place. Inviting and hospitable from the minute you arrive. Amenities are almost endless: great pool the kids loved (maintained daily), kayaks to take out on the sound, fish cleaning station and the grilling area. Next trip will definitely be back here.Walkability: Restaurants, stores, tackle shops and gas stations all within walking distance.
