DO NOT STAY HERE. Deseves a Zero. We booked 2 nights, left after one. Did not sleep a wink. No way to get a hold of anyone after 8pm. They posted an 800 number to call on a paper but no one answered. No TV's, No internet. We stayed in a 2 story building, upstairs people were pounding, stomping till around 3am, finally stopped but then they must have had to work because it got real noisy from 5 to 6 again. Whole place was shaking. I was waiting for the place to fall into the ocean (yes it felt that unsafe). We waited till 9am for the office to open. She did offer us another room but at this point all we wanted was our own bed and some sleep. We were extremely tired and did not feel safe there. Ruined our mini vacation. Save yourself the hassle. If you have a problem they DO NOT CARE. Do not leave a piece of trash anywhere (make sure to clean your own room) or they will charge you $50 and they leave an envelope for a tip. Dated hole in the wall.

We stayed in one of the 3br 1ba that was just up the road in late December for one night. Not many affordable options for families of 6 that time of year. I’ve learned to call ahead at any non-major chain type hotel if you plan to be after 5pm. The lady I spoke with was helpful and gave me detailed info on keys/check-in and out.Our kids were nervous as they looked at other reviews. Always take these with a grain of salt, usually it’s a disgruntled guest. We were pleasantly surprised, it was a great roomy place to stay with only a few minor issues.- Main issue the room did not have a room number on it. (The directions to the unit were accurate, but it would have been comforting to see the room number by the door.)- The hot / cold water was reversed in the shower. I figured it out fairly quickly, but not everyone in our group did.At these price points you aren’t expecting much, but it was well worth the price and we’d happily stay in this unit again for it’s convenience and pricing.47571 N Hwy 12 unit was on 2nd floor.Be sure to catch the Orange Blossom for breakfast if you come when they’re open.Rooms: Plenty of room, our family of 6 had more than enough room including a living room and kitchen. Bathroom wasn’t bad, but the hot / cold was reversed in the shower.

Everything is great, I have been here before but this time we were kind of misled. Beach reclamation underway on the property , dump truck smacking it's steel tailgate, loud equipment, piles of sand in the way of walking, loud construction workers, stuff in the way of backing out of parking spots. I understand construction, it has to be done but please give people a heads up to bring ear plugs and stay indoors 8 am to 5pm. Give us a hint. It's almost like lying by ommission. Yes, you didn't say that there's NO construction going on but you knew that we would want to know. Otherwise no complaints, the place is great.

My family & I stayed at one of the cottages, unit 2, through the Outer Banks Motel. The place seemed very clean until we noticed the trash was never taken out from the cleaning crew and/or prior visitors. Our master bedrooms bed was in terrible condition. My husband & I were sleeping on an angle. Our feet were higher than our head which made things pretty uncomfortable. Also, the master baths tub wouldn’t allow the water drain correctly when you were taking a shower. What did it for us at the end was you can hear all the noise from the next door neighbors, even upstairs through the walls. We saw two bugs as pictured that we killed. We truly didn’t think anything of it. My husband spoke to someone and told him it was a Palm Meadow water bug. Once we got back from our visit we researched it and It’s part of the cockroach family …. Just beware.

If you like cats, this is your place. Old, dirty, parking is a nightmare, night time noise after office closes is off the hook. Will sleep in truck before coming here again. Do yourself a favor & go down the road a little bit for comfortable stay. One week of being miserable is enough for us. Will never ever stay here again or suggest this place to anyone. Hot tub in pool area looked like lemonade, clothes dryer is broken but takes your money. Never again my friends !!!

I wouldn't recommendThe place reeks of damp. The loveseat in the living room smells badly of wet dog and is very stained. The wood flooring is rotting to the point that multiple places at the entrance, in front of the stove, and the bathroom are soft and feel like they'll give way when you step down. The whole house is lopsided so the front door and bedroom door only open half way. The Internet doesn't work, which means the fancy TV is useless for anything other than 3 local channels. Half the kitchen lights were out. The smoke detectors were missing batteries. Maybe the funniest part was the "stocked kitchen" had only 3 forks. They also want you to do essentially a full clean when you leave, which for a place we've spent $200/night to hold our breath through seems awful. We're not rich, so we're doing our best to enjoy the beach, but for $200/night, it shouldn't stink or be hazardous, and I really don't want to clean a house as the exit ticket for my vacation.

7/23: I genuinely don’t consider myself a Karen or someone that asks for hot water in dive bars… Thus, I will start off with a few pros of this motel. Location primarily - you’re essentially right on the beach. Parking - included with your stay and easily accessible. A hose near the pool to wash off sandy feet. Cons - I am not going to be able to overcome or get past the number of roaches that are crawling across this establishment. It’s like clockwork. Sunsets, and the roaches are out club. There was literally more than 10 on the deck that were around 3-5 inches in length that came out around 8:45 p.m. and thus forcing us to vacate and move inside. If you have the slightest inclination or intention of wanting to use the deck, I would take that into consideration. As much as I adore vintage items, this was a bit of too much of a blast into the past… including the shower head. I don’t want to spend nearly an hour trying to get suds and sand off me. There is a checkout list of to-dos similar to an AirBNB style. I think that should be mentioned on the booking site. You’re expected to take the trash within your room to the dumpsters, sweep and do dishes. Finally, my last item that was not necessarily a concern for me, but a concern if you have youngsters. None of the windows have screens, the deck has rusty nails and screws hanging out, even the padlock to the entrance has two rusty screws hanging out that could’ve harmed someone. There’s also a number of kitties roaming the property. I adore cats, but I can understand how this can be a concern to stayers so I feel it’s a need to mention. My guess is they are fighting off rats… or roaches? The walls are also incredibly thin so if there are guests in the room next door, you may not get sleep. Overall, if you can get past all of the cons, you have an easy access to the beach.

I created a "wave fees" request for a cancellation via booking to see if perhaps I could get a full refund, without actually cancelling. They took that as a cancellation and booked my room for a other person. I decided that I was going to actual use my reservation, and then when I went up to the front desk they said the place was booked but they had some other room available 1 mile away. This didn't seem fair since I wouldn't be getting the room shown in pictures and it was in a completely different part of town yet I was paying the same price. They tried to heckle with me for a bit but booking helped us out. Will never stay here.

We took an overnight trip to get away for the weekend- Very cute, clean and quaint! The staff is also very kind and nice!I would absolutely recommend this establishment. My only complaint is the smell of the cleaning products used to clean the room, but nothing opening windows didn’t fix :)

The Outer Banks Motel is a ok motel. The place has seen better days and has shone many, many signs of age. The hot tub for example is in shambles and the beach out front leaves a lot to be deserved. The rooms aren’t the cleanest but are doable. One of the last times I went, there was a cockroach that crawled on me in the middle of the night. As for positives, in 3A and 3B there is a door in between the rooms with a kitchen which has been really great for family gatherings.I personally would not stay here, but since my family likes it, I will put up with it.

We rented 4 cabins and had a good time. The surf out back produced fish! They have a specific area to clean fish, a swimming pool and decent parking. It's a motel so you can't go expect it to be a Marriott! We enjoyed our stay and will be back in the future! Thank you

I just checked in for my second stay here. These are among the cleanest rooms I’ve ever stayed in at a hotel! The staff is always amazing, and you couldn’t ask for a better location. If you’re looking for something like a Hilton or Marriott, this is the wrong place for you. If you’re looking for a clean place to stay, friendly staff, and right on the ocean then this is where you want to be!

I have been here since Monday (leaving Saturday) and I love the view of the room I'm in and everyone is so nice! I would and do recommend staying here if you don't want to walk or drive to the beach. The stairs will definitely give you a workout, depending on the level you're on. Super comfy and cozy for sure. Will be back for sure. Great place for a romantic getaway!

Absolutely amazing location! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Some of the rooms are outdated but they were clean and well equipped besides a hair dryer (not complaining). Our kids are 3,5,12, and 16. We chose OBX for a relaxing vacation and this location provided us with just that. We didn’t spend a lot of money on other activities because THE BEACH WAS RIGHT OUTSIDE! We went boogie boarding, skim boarding, built sand castles, shell hunting, crab hunting, watched the ships and fishing boats and even saw porpoises/dolphins!!! There wasn’t a lot of people or crowds so we truly felt like we were on a getaway! First time I didn’t feel like I needed a vacation from my vacation!

Found this place on Motels.com. Went to visit my brother and wife first and went to stay here for 3 days with them. Wonderful experience. Pool, Jacuzzi, washer, Drier, Stove, dishwasher and more. People were so friendly. My dog loved walking the beach chasing crabs in the evening. (no she never caught one) Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I am so glad I got this hotel stay. Well worth the trip!

At first I thought this was a cute little place to stay at. Until the second night, door locks and handles stick you sit there for 5 minutes fighting the key. Wooden deck is loose, nails are backing out and boards feel unsafe for bigger individuals to walk on. Beds are uncomfortable and worst of all BUGS!! Roaches, small and large. All in the bathroom, living space. Come in after dinner go into the bathroom to freshen up and roaches and bugs on the sink and tub and All over the floor. The only thing I’d give this place is the location. It does feel safe. But otherwise this place is wore out and for the $800 dollars I paid for 4 nights I expected so much more.. I made two trips in one, first and last!!

Good enough but never coming back. Our "ocean view" was the gap between roofs. That's not ocean view that's a partial view at best. Getting to the ocean requires you to get over a three foot concrete blockade. I have a hip injury and a toddler. Not ideal at all. Or safe. Also our shower curtain on the rusted rod is a half curtain, it must have broke at some point and instead of replacing it they doubled it up o. The hooks. On top of it there is no foot washing station so you track sand into your room. At least they give you a broom. I know it's an older hotel on the beach but we stayed at lighthouse view last year and the accommodations were much better. Temperature in room is set to 70 but by 8pm it reads at 77 , by 5am its 73. The blankets are so itchy as well. Just uncomfortable stay and don't recommend

Stayed in ME2 for a week with my 4 kids. If you want any privacy and to enjoy your time privately with your family, go somewhere else. I have family staying nearby and had them over for dinner. The landlord that lives next door came over at 6pm on accusing me of having too many people staying. They were here for 1 hour. My veteran brother was visiting as well with his service dog. The landlord walks around the yard (my 10 yo daughter was sketched out by this). The sheriff was called and I was made to pay an extra $30 a day that my brother visited, which is illegal, because of his service dog.He also told the sheriff I had 30 people staying here. This establishment is NOT VETERAN FRIENDLY and there is ZERO privacy. It is a beautiful home, that's the only good thing I can say. We are respectful people that always leave a place better than we found it.

This unit 3a was well kept and clean from everything I can tell. Not very modern but a cedar beach feel to it. Very comfy and great view of the ocean. It had a nice sun room with rocking chairs before you enter the room which is always a plus. This is a good place to stay a night or a week.

Stayed last May for the 2nd time. Staff is always friendly, room was clean. Buxton is a refreshing town, away from the commercial towns. Nice pool and hot tub, little to no access to the ocean due to beach erosion and the sand bags but you can’t blame the property owners for that. If you want cozy, quiet and quaint, this is your place. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY! I recently stayed in the Maude Estus house for a bachelorette party and I left a day early because the third floor room was INFESTED with bed bugs!!!! When we called to report it, we were told that there wasn’t bed bugs and they would have the cleaning crew come replace the sheets. They arrived and I again told them there are bugs and they said “no, there was someone out last week and they said it was just red beetles. Well let me tell you something they were infect not red beetles. One of the people in our group demanded that someone else come check out the house because we were certain it was. One of the co owners came out and he checked out the room and he found some bed bugs and that was only 15 mins after the sheets were just changed. He sprayed some at home spray and then sent out a pest control guy and was super nice and I thought it would be easy sailing from there. Boy was I wrong… when the same person who originally went to the office had asked for a refund that’s when it went down hill. With her name not being the one who rented the other co owner refused to give a full refund. It was absolutely ridiculous and they said they wouldn’t pay for us to stay somewhere else either. They ended up saying they would give us a refund for 2 of the 3 nights for half the duplex. We rented both sides and we were back and forth between both houses all weekend and because there was no evidence of bugs on the other side they told us just to sleep there. They offered to heat treat our stuff, which was just putting it in their dryer instead of charging us per load like they do at the house. I’m completely broken out in a rash all over my body and it’s is appalling to me that they kept denying that it was bed bugs and then when it came down to it and it really was bed bugs, they couldn’t even give us a full refund or even pay for lodging somewhere else. We even showed them pictures of my rash in the beginning and still tried to deny it. I wish we could have just dealt with the first co-owner because he was so nice and so helpful and very apologetic and up until we dealt with the other owner, the property was pretty nice and the stay was nice.

Room was very clean and it is in a nice location. Pool was never over crowded, Nice view from room 5A. Both rocking chairs were broken and could not sat in. The chairs are going to end up hurting someone. Room very dated and needs some attention. The deck had loose railings to the point a child could fall through and when we alerted the office, it was going to be a few days before they could repair, we drove to ACE bought screws and fixed ourselves in 20 minutes. For the price, I would NOT stay again.
