While we had a very short stay, it was wonderful while we were there. The room and bathroom were very clean and we both remarked how comfortable the bed was. Everything seemed well maintained and we appreciated having toiletries available. And the office staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. And the view. The view is insane. We spent the wee hours of the evening out on the deck listening to the waves and were both up early to watch the sunrise. Absolutely beautiful. We loved our stay and we'll be back

Positives: the room was clean, the ac was very effective, the location was good, the beach was not crowded.Negatives: ice machine didn't work, pool was across the street from beach rooms, there was lots of trash like cans and cigarette butts all around the premises, there were unpainted areas in room, cords hanging from TV.Seemed overpriced for what we got.Suggestions: spruce up rooms with some painting, etc. Hire someone to pick up trash around buildings once a day. Get a new ice machine. Or lower rates.

The staff went above and beyond to help us arrange a birthday surprise for my daughter. I had a minor discrepancy with my bill which they quickly resolved to ensure our trip was the best. They were professional, friendly, and welcoming! The room was magnificent! Clean and cozy with a breath taking ocean front view. I cannot wait to book my next visit, which will be very soon!

The biggest asset is the Motel's Inn keepers, Melinda and Harry. They could not work harder to make sure your stay is comfortable. We stayed in a two bedroom on the sound with a kitchen. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. We enjoyed the porch rockers and having coffee in the morning. Beach access is not as shown in the pictures. It is difficult, if not impossible for anyone with mobility issues. The pool needs work. Seagulls use it as a bird bath and nothing stops them from making a mess. The Motel is close to a number of restaurants. Public beach access is available in many locations within a short drive.

We had a wonderful time staying at this hotel. We had planned to come back to visit since we only got to stay one night, actually only 12 hours to be exact. I got home and noticed there was an extra $200 charge on my credit card. I called to see why we were charged an additional $200 on top of the already expensive nightly fee of $300 per night. The owner told me we were charged for a broken mirror. I assured her we had not broken any mirror and if we had, as small business owner myself, I would have let someone know upon leaving. She stated we were the last ones in the room. She sent us this picture which clearly looks like it slid down and fell off the wall. Unfortunately, someone has to pay for a broken mirror and we are being blamed for it. Most expensive night at a hotel that’s definitely not worth it. We won’t be staying here again.

We loved the location. The beachfront rooms really are right on the beach . You have to cross a busy highway to get to the office and pool, but if the beach is your focus, you won't be disappointed.Noteworthy details: Beware the stairs. All of the beachfront rooms with views require climbing stairs. You are rewarded with stunning views and rocking chairs on the deck once you get to your room.

Clean, very comfortable bed, coffee maker and right on the ocean!!! The staff made it extra special for us as it was our honeymoon and their kindness will be carried forward! Shower knobs a little tricky. Get up for sunrise!

We had a great family time in one of the townhouses. We loved having different levels with the kids because we had room to spread out. The balcony had an amazing view of the ocean and the newly re-nourished beach. We had friends staying next to us and it was so nice to share the balcony and hang out together. The pool was a nice break after the beach and walked to the ice cream shop in Fatty's across the street. The location is also convenient to many restaurants and grocery stores. This is such a great place for a family vacation!

Rooms were clean, bathroom was well stocked, kitchen was clean and best of all, the water pressure in the shower might have been the best I've ever had in my life! The beach gets pumped with sand once every five years and this was the night and what a scene! It was like something out of a movie! It was a spectacle to behold! I bought the t-shirt! The office staff was the friendliest anywhere. I wouldn't stay anywhere else on future visits.

Dave and Janet Dawson, who ran the CHM for 51 years, retired in February, apparently after selling it to a Virginia company. The Dawsons and their solid crew made sure everything was functional, the kitchens were outfitted with all the basics necessary for cooking, eating, and cleaning, and the rooms were attractive even if on a budget. It might just be because the new owners haven't been able to keep up in the last few months before the season began, but things are not the same. There's a general sense of neglect and specific issues that detract from the old Buxton seaside charm. Our stay of 6 days in mid-May was challenged by missing necessities in the kitchen, seaside windows (two of which were painted shut) without screens and cloudy from sea salt, sloppy repairs, and a lack of attention to basic details. That said, the beds, linens, and pillows were great, and the rockers on the porch are still a stunning way to admire the ocean, which is still *right* there. The new owners have only had a few months to get settled in and we're hoping they are successful. We love this old place and hope to be back next year.

Amazing oceanfront view, clean, comfortable, well stocked accommodations, and the most professional, friendly staff . Tanner was the absolute best .. so attentive to all our needs and went above and beyond to assure my granddaughter and myself were safe and cared for. Can’t wait to tell my family and friends what a great first experience in Hatteras. Will definitely be back

Very clean, very convenient simple place with all the conveniences. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster all provided in the room. Open spacious room with a beautiful front view of the ocean. You can hear the waves at night and see the beautiful sun rise from your room. Convenient after hours check in. Very pleased with our stay there. Bring your own drinking water- water quaility is a little iffy. Rest the place is worth every penny although expensive for a motel.

We arrived in the rain just after a Nor'easter had washed about 4 feet of sand into their parking lot and broken the main phone and internet cable to the whole island. The staff worked valiantly to make sure we had a good stay, anyway. Thanks especially to Jennifer who went out of her way to help us! Then the sun came out, and we could really appreciate the fantastic setting right on the beach. Rooms were clean and well-kept in a simple, old-fashioned motel style--immediately adjacent to miles of undeveloped beach to their North. (Enjoy this place while it lasts. It won't be their fault, but the beach is moving in on them.)

The motel is clean and new. The staff are helpful and friendly. The motel is on the beach. The ocean waves bring the seashells right up to the hotel making shelling easy. The waves are great for surfing. The beach is empty of people. There are plenty of good restaurants near by. The dollar store has inexpensive groceries. This is a great location. Close to everything

Great location. True ocean front. Rooms are nice and clean, and spacious. Love the rocking chairs. Staff is very nice and friendly.Only issue is noisy people. Sounds like they are in same room. Can hear people stomping around after 10 pm and we are on top floor. Other than that no issues.

This place feels like home! The owners are amazing, super friendly and helpful. The rooms are always clean, well decorated and spacious and always a great value. All of the views are spectacular. If you love sand, they are constantly shifting since you're on a sandbar, but always something to drink in. Rocking chairs outside of rooms to watch sunrise or sunset with beach views or sound side views. Every season they collectively hold their breath for each storm and after the storm they come back more beautiful and more humble than before. Some of my best beach memories with my husband have been here.

Updated.Rooms basic but very clean and good size. No beach chairs or umbrellas. No place to get food but driving back up the beach northward. Restaurant/cafe whatever they call it was closed. Basic amenities but I was expecting the Rit..The staff was pretty friendly and helpful. If I must wear a mask (100% agree) why don’t some of the staff?Great views! Beautiful!Lost a star because I do not understand why the owner won’t consider the addition of daybed to some of the oceanfront rooms. I’ll pay a rental fee or whatever. Really disappointed a relative when I told they had to stay home. They were very willing to foot any extra fees. No room in the inn. I guess they don’t want/need any extra revenue.

Our room could have used a little better of a paint job and a minor facelift…. BUT that is THE ONLY “bad thing” I can say about our stay here. Suzy welcomed us with open arms and such an amazing kind welcome. The keys, just wait… you will want to take one home with you. The beach, location, pool, all the staff we met, parking… everything…. If I could give ten starts I would! Loved everything about this place!

Whilethis motel is nothing fancy, the location really can’t be beat. Our room was right on the beach… probably the closest I have ever slept to the beach! They have a really nice pool area, as well. The rooms themselves are somewhat tired. There is one building that is newer than the others that is a little bit nicer, but our room was fairly basic and securely in need of updating. But bed was comfy and staff is incredibly nice.

The room was exceptionally clean. When we opened the door to our room, a welcoming hint of bleach made me happy. The staff was so friendly. It is a one star motel that lets you know the building will be old and it is not in a chain, so this motel exceeded all my expectations and was the price was amazingly low for this award winning motel. This was a last minute plan for us since we were able to get away before our planned house stay in Rodanthe. This motel will be my go to from when I do a quick stary😎

Edit #2: Our stay was wonderful! Was even able to stay an extra night, but had to change rooms to do so. No big deal. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and sanitized. Even the guests were super chill. Have already made reservations for 2 weeks next year. Thank you again for a wonderful, relaxing stay!Edit: Thank you for your response. Indeed! I am anxious to come and stay! We have never stayed down this far before, so excited to see what the beach is like down there. Can’t wait.I have not stayed here, BUT I did go online (using their website) and book a stay for December 2021 on Monday. On Thursday (today) I have fraudulent charges on my card ($220.00 worth). A card that has not been used anywhere else in the past 15 - 30 days. So, beware when making reservations. I have reached out to let property know of the issue as well.

We visited the Outer Banks in February during off season. Many things are closed and there are no chain hotels or eateries here which, in my opinion, makes the experience so amazing. We stayed one night at the Cape Hatteras Motel and I was so sad we didn't have more time to stay. It is built right ON the beach in the middle of the dunes and it is the last property on the way out of Buxton, so there are miles of undisturbed beach to explore. We had a top floor room in building C and the views were fantastic. The room was SUPER clean! Loved the amenities offered from the mini fridge, toaster and microwave to the Keurig with locally roasted coffee for the Kcups! I could have spent days in the rocking chair on the balcony watching the sunrise and the ocean roll. The only thing that would make this room better would be a comfortable lounge chair. There is only the small breakfast table with two chairs and these chairs are small! The staff was pleasant and helpful. The Cape Hatteras Motel is an amazing opportunity to get outside of your brand hotel comfort zone. You will not be disappointed!
