Awesome animal shelter! Yancey made our day for Christmas! My daughter wanted a baby kitten and they had exactly what we where looking for! Staff was friendly, they made it very convenient with us being an hour away. The drive was always peaceful and beautiful! Thank you Yancey!!!

Great guy at front desk.. whoever just answered the phone..Not able to keep her where I'm at due to a spouse kicking me out soon - nobody rents to people with pets so I'll have to get rid of her in the process of getting the new home.Super sad. I don't want to leave but she isn't going to stop locking me out and not putting me on lease ( I pay half the bills and and have been here for a year and 2 months.Bananas 🍌. Be careful of people like this - they are real

I adopted my sweet dog during COVID and was so pleased with the cleanliness of the facility.My pup was too young to bring home right away, but I was kept informed the entire time we were waiting to bring her home.

We adopted Rye from here, and all the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful in the process. You can tell the love they all have in providing care for these dogs and cats. I would definitely recommend this rescue if you're looking to adopt a pet friend!

Went to get information about getting my dogs spayed and neutered. They were so helpful and friendly. They had also helped me with some dog food and that has been a huge life saver! I love everything about what they stand for and do. Thank you for doing what you do for our community, and all our fur babies.. Keep being AMAZING!Here's my fur babies you helped feed. The facility is beautiful and well maintained. You can tell that all the staff wants to be here, they are all helpful and so attentive to the animals.I submitted an application for adoption online and was able to book an appointment to meet a few dogs and hopefully find a fur baby to love and take home. And I did! The process was very straightforward and I took my new buddy home a few days later.

Adopting our dog from this shelter was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The staff took the needs of our household into consideration and were patient with us as we met and considered several dogs before finding our Cazador. The animals here are truly loved, as evidenced by how many staff came out to send Cazador off with kisses and best wishes for his future. They even showed us photos of his mother and siblings! And they answered our many questions and sent his upcoming medications home with us. We highly recommend adopting here and we plan to visit again with Cazador once he's fully settled in. UPDATE: Just another positive to note -- this place follows up with new dog parents a few days after the adoption to check in about any issues or needs and offer support/advice. Considerate and thorough!

Can’t sing enough praises for YCHS. They made our adoption process as simple as possible while still being thorough, knowledgeable, and kind. From the first email that I sent to loading up the car with us, they were just so helpful. It’s a building full of animals who have all the love to give and people who devote their lives to them. Awesome place! The staff was very helpful and friendly. Gave us answer to the questions we had about the dog we choose to adopt. Very clean place and all the dogs appeared to be well taken care. I would highly recommend Yancey County Humane Rescue. Thank you for the job you do!!!

We drove a little over an hour to get to this humane society to look at a pit mix that had been in the shelter for almost 1 1/2 years. The staff was wonderful and the dog has been a rockstar. She's the perfect mix for our lifestyle. She's content to cuddle on the couch and snuggle and she likes to go out for daily walks in the neighborhood. I'll forever be thankful for the kind people that didn't give up on our babygirl and I'm happy to say she has her permanent home in my heart and my home. Thank you Yancey County HS for providing for her all those many months.

It is the best shelter in our area and the surrounding areas. They take excellent care of the kitties and doggies. I highly recommend checking with them when you're ready to add a furry friend to your family.

Always a clean facility with well cared for charges. They always work diligently to care for and place the animals waiting for new furever homes. The First person I talked to was not much help. When i was leaving another woman stored me and asked if she could help. She was so pleasant and helpful. She took time and showed me how to go online to fill out the application to adopt a pet and gave me all of the information I needed. The inside was so clean as well as the pens outside. I'll definitely be going back and recommending it to my friends.

Amazing caring staff. VERY clean and you can tell they really love their job. They even have a room for the cats to hang out so you can sit in there and visit them. They make sure you sanitize your hands and have treats for them to give them as well. Adoption is easy and quick. We adopted a Blue Russian cat. I would highly recommend coming here to adopt or just for a visit!

I found my sweet dog there. I love her! She came with all her vaccinations, microchip and spay surgery. All for $85!!! The women there were all friendly and helpful, and the facility and dog park were clean and obviously well maintained. I highly recommend this place.

Wonderful shelter! The staff are very friendly and helpful, they were able to match me with the perfect dog, and spend as much time with me as I needed. And the shelter itself is beautiful, well built, gorgeous yard for the dogs to play in, and well maintained, sanitary.

The most caring, pet centered shelter I have ever seen. The staff is wonderful and truly cares about the animals and the facilities are top notch, including an outdoor, enclosed cat porch and play area for the dogs. When we brought in an abandoned bear dog, scared and obviously mistreated, they treated her with gentleness and understanding - and we ended up adopting her. I wish all shelters could be like this.

I went to the humane society Saturday August 4th and I had the best experience adopting my baby girl. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. It was also the cleanest shelter I’ve been too. I can’t wait to pick her up on Thursday after she gets fixed. If me or my family or friends decide to adopt again we will definitely be back to Yancey humane society.

Great people. You can tell they really care for the animals they look after. There's also an adorable little dog park right next to the building for looking and dogs and taking your pet you already have. I will definitely recommend them.
