John C. Campbell Fall Festival is an annual celebration which falls on the weekend of October 6th-8th of every year. Rich in local folk heritage and a mecca for regional crafters, makers, welders, dancers, storytelling, quilting, etc. Appalachian folk school which offers classes, as well as, opportunities for those artists seeking to refine their abilities.

Love this place and everything about it - I'd event updates via text. The Christmas Craft Sale is the best one I've ever been to.

I had the absolute best week here! I love the diversity of class offerings they have in terms of range of subject matters. I took a week long jewelry making class and left inspired, challenged, and excited. I was an absolute rookie and left with legit pieces I am proud to wear. I stayed off campus because I brought along my dog so I can’t speak to the accommodations of meals. However, the instruction I received was EXCELLENT and I will undoubtedly be returning!

I went to the fall festival craft show. This is the best quality craft show I have seen since moving to N.C. 4 years ago.

Great festival. 250 vendors/artists. Music was good. Demonstrations were educational and entertaining: blacksmithing, woodworking, spinning, carving and more.Especially loved the artists, photographers, cloggers, JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians), vegetarian food, pottery, yarn/textile artists, and Elderberry vendor. Will return next year!!

Its an amazing experience, surrounded by beautiful scenery, and with the most interesting, unique, and motivational people. Fun and interesting, never a dull moment. A great retreat or get away, where you can learn, be entertained, and enjoy the surroundings, the people, and all the time you spend there.

Just spent a week at JCC Filk School and had a great experience. My wife and I have been going for about 10 years. They definitely had some challenges when emerging from Covid, but happily, everything is back to normal. Good food, with a lot of options for people with gluten, dairy or vegan preferences. The community atmosphere is amazing. People are so relaxed and friendly, which I attribute to the instructors, staff and management. They are really carrying out the mission of the folk school and live by their principles. So much music and art everywhere. Can’t wait to go back in July.

The John C. Campbell Folk School is one of the most unique, warm, and inviting places on the planet. There's something here for everyone: dances, concerts, classes, food, and (most importantly) friends.Things to check out when you visit: a contra dance at the Keith House, the Brasstown River Walk, all of the craft studios...

Fall Festival had countless craft and art vendors, all were delightful, engaging, and the music and dance performances were unique and refreshing. We drove 2 hours from Atlanta and was worth it! Going to sign up for their classes in 2023!

I took a weekend class here and the instructor wasn't super informative. I overheard him saying that you can't learn anything over a course of a few days like it was a waste of time, which was pretty frustrating because I spent around $300 on the class. This place seemed more geared to a certain atmosphere like viewing things from a historic perspective with a communal vibe. If your looking to get some in-depth teaching, I'd look elsewhere. If you want history and a relaxed atmosphere with very light emphasis on teaching then it you would enjoy it.

Love taking their classes! Camp for grown-ups. I've attended four sessions so far, and plan to try to keep taking at least two or three a year. Great instructors, lots of interesting people to meet, good food, and a beautiful setting.

I love everything Appalachian and the Pressley’s are my favorites. Tipper is so sweet and talented, her garden and cooking is amazing. I wish I lived closer to them. I am from Huntsville Alabama. Keep up the good work and I will always be a fan. Love, Jeannie

This is a MUST see for everyone visiting the area. The school has a Wonderful gift shop with lots is crafts from both local artists, teachers and students. Each fall they have the absolute best art and crafts show in the country with an open house at the school, with demonstration s by the teachers for all the different classes. The best part is that the art show is in the surrounding woods during fall with the fall leafs falling . Come for a visit or come take a class for week!

This is a beautiful place surrounded by mountains, woods and fields. The school is closed now but opening in May. We took a walk along the river and also around the buildings on campus where various arts are taught. It's an amazing school!

My husband and 2 friends n I spent 5 hours touring the studios on a rainy November day in 2019. It was so inspiring and exciting to see all the creative juices flowing up there that we talked about coming back to a work study session all the way home 2 days later. As soon as the new year came I put in an application to come in 2020. Imagining the 9 weeks being surrounded by such creative minds leaves me anticipating being up there this year.

So Disappointed :-(I have wanted to attend John C Campbell folk School for 25 years. Finally, I rewarded myself with an 11-day Pottery Hand Building course right after I retired. Cost approached $2000 but I saved up for it because it was a dream. Unfortunately, the instructor (M Hamlin) was not suited to teaching. While an accomplished potter, he lacked skills to teach beginners and failed to “meet students where they are” in their skill set. He intimidated me (and I am not easily intimidated) and publicly humiliated me around other students. The food at JCC was quite atrocious. Heavily red meat based and canned or processed food. Clearly the pandemic has affected their ability to offer lovely dining services which was their prior reputation. It’s unfortunate. Accommodations were clean, pleasant and as expected. The grounds are lovely. The staff was good how ever we had trouble getting basic things like water or coffee in our studio due to understaffing. Some of our equipment was failing and supplies were more limited than anticipated by the instructor. They also failed to send a review opportunity which was informative (they don’t want to know?). I have thought hard about leaving this negative review; I don’t want to be harsh and I don’t want to undermine an artists career but it is important for people to know the limitations of the John C Campbell Folk School. I think I will go to Penland and do much better research on the teacher artists in the future.
