A great place to visit with a lot of history. I enjoyed seeing some of the toys that I played with as a kid. There were many unique items here that you won't find anywhere else. Give this place to try you will not be disappointed

One of the kindest, and certainly most historic, general stores in North Carolina. Five stars!

Was expecting an antique style general store. Had a lot of modern stuff in an old building. Building was cool but disappointed in merchandise.

So rustic...lots of history in that store. Very clean. They have a small toy train running around a track on the ceiling. Nice folks!

It is recognized as the oldest family run business in North Carolina and is a wonderful trip through nostalgia each time you visit. So many things to look at! Don't forget your cold Coke and moon pie on the way out.

A shiny copper penny out in the middle of nowhere. They had custom Christmas boxes for sale that include a jam or jelly, old fashioned candy and goodies and lots of other really neat things to take a gander at. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

Love the old time feel, but it is an over-priced tourist venue.

The reason why I'm giving this such a low grade is yes I'll agree with everyone until the cows come home that the Washburn store has some things you probably wouldn't see in another store but when the people behind the counter and I'm guessing the employees of the store are looking at their cell phones rather than seeing if a customer had a question about anything I mean the only person I seen working was the elderly lady it looked like she was wrapping some cloth.

Great little store that we drop in quite a bit. Lots of nostalgic items and great homemade bologna sandwiches. The best people you will ever meet

Great place to stop to browse an authentic general store from the past. The town/crossroads is unlike anything you would normally see in the modern era. None of the buildings or surrounding homes are rundown... they all look great. They have a small sandwich making area in the general store and EVERYONE from the surrounding area stops by regularly to have one. They are carefully made just like your momma would. You will enjoy your time there...I was lucky enough to stop when driving by.

Loved visiting this General Store. The lady gave us a wonderful history of her family owned business. Her father recently passed away and this is this first time in the stores history to be ran by all women. The girls made everyone feel so welcomed. Enjoyed petting the 16 yr old family dog too!!! Definitely a place to visit if in the area!!

It's not Walmart. And that's what makes it so special. It's like going back to a time before huge and indifferent corporations took over retail in America. Washburn's has been in business by generations of the same family since 1831! Well worth a visit. Closed on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Best hoop cheese, tomato and lettuce sandwich in town. You can add deli meat if you like. The hoop cheese is aged cheddar and the family owned store since the 1800’s will slap it together fresh right before you. Chips, soda pops, and get a treat of the old fashioned peppermint candy canes. The store has about whatever you would need. Work pants, shirts, hats with ear muffs, cast iron skillets and pots, all kinds of lovely plates and dish ware. There are bird feeders and an isle of toys. This is what I remember a store was before Walmart and dollar general. It’s got pvc pipe and nuts and bolts to fix whatever you are working on back at the farm. The place is a nostalgic experience. Must stop and remember the good ole’ days and while you’re at it have lunch and sit in a rocking chair or at the picnic table. Enjoy!

I have visited Washburn’s Store many times over many years and every visit has been delightful. From the smiling, friendly owners and staff to the ice cold Cheerwine, and everything in between I have had wonderful experiences. Thank you!!

Very interesting store. There's something to see everywhere. So look up....look down. Lots of wonderful things. Wish we where related to the owners....but no. We just have the same last name. Come check it out. If you're hungry get their sandwiches. So worth the $4 for ham on white bread with all the fixens. Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, mayo and mustard. They have a great bologna as well.

This is the last of the non-franchised old school general stores. The gentleman who started it is in his 80's and still works at the store. The family lives across the road. It has many unique items that you can't find anywhere else. Reminds me of my grandparents when they lived on the farm. It's been featured on several news channels and in magazines.Truly a treasure to visit and worth the 15 minute drive from downtown.

Sweet older gentleman that owns it loves to chat and visit. Doesn't seem to know any stranger, just treats you like an old friend. Lots of rustic, useful things. Something for everyone. Really love it. Wish we lived closer. Brought back my childhood.

It was a pleasant experience, great staff, lots to see. Enjoyed a cup of free coffee as we browsed around and the company of the pooch. Mr. Washburn was a pleasure to meet. Can't wait to bring my church group up.

Love these folks! Only get to make it down a few times a year, but making a stop here is a must! Best bologna sandwich and hoop cheese you can wrap your lips around. Our most recent visit we just missed the cut off time for a sandwiches. Being the awesome people they are, they brought the meat and bread back out for us because we had no reception to call in our order before they put it away for the day.Definitly worth the drive, and if your lucky enough you may get to catch a quick chat with Mr Washburn himself!

Visiting Washburn's is like stepping back in time! My dad grew up living across the street. We visited last year and it brought him so much joy to see Edward and Catherine and browse around the store. A must see!!
