We booked a 4 hour float trip with 2 boats on the Watauga tail water for 3 of us. Corey and David were excellent guides knowing where all the good spots were and both were excellent teachers. We caught over a dozen trout and I got my largest brown and rainbow. My son and wife also had a blast as all 3 of us caught multiple browns and rainbows. I would highly recommend Foscoe for your guide needs.

Kirby is an excellent guide and one I’d definitely request again. We had a day of personal bests all around. A Watauga Grand Slam…Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Brook Trout. We also caught 23 trout in a single hole! Kirby knows where to go and what to tie and he doesn’t stop until you’ve found some fish. Excellent guide and service all the way around.

I booked a fishing trip last minute over the July 4th weekend. Ben called me, sent text messages before the trip. Myself, my daughter, and son in law were 30 minutes early, but Ben and Corey were waiting for us on the porch with all the correct waders, boots, gear. We traveled to a small river, and Corey and Ben taught us how and where to fly fish. We all had a very good time, caught a lot of trout, even did the grand slam! Brook, Rainbow, and Brown Trout all in the same 4 hour trip. We are very satisfied and would recommend Foscoe Fishing to anyone. Ben and Corey were great.

Great fly shop with friendly, knowledgeable staff. I've stopped in a couple of times for supplies and some advice on local waters, and both times have gotten exactly what I needed for a great day on the water. I especially appreciate the staff taking the time to re-spool a new reel that a different Orvis shop had gotten wrong (even though I had purchased it elsewhere.)

First fly fishing experience and was very happy with Foscoe. Our guide Bella came very prepared and definitely knew her stuff. She was patient, informative, and very happy to share her knowledge. We caught rainbow trout within a few minutes of throwing out lines. Will be back to get kitted up for my next visit.

My husband and I live in FL and are avid saltwater anglers. We had the fly-fishing basics down but decided to hire a guide in June to teach us more about the specific area, the waters, and the finer aspects of the sport. We’ve shopped at Foscoe Fishing many times so we decided to start there. Alyssa was our guide and I just cannot say enough good things about her. She was knowledgeable, fun, and put us on the fish. She knew we were avid hikers and took us on a fly-fishing trip of a lifetime, miles up the river, across boulders, and eventually up and around a waterfall. An amazing experience to say the least. The best part is that we went fishing on our own the very next weekend and caught trout!! Alyssa went above and beyond to customize our experience and make our trip exciting and memorable. We recommend her to everyone we know. We just finished a great week of fishing with Dustin, one of the senior guides at Foscoe. It rained almost the whole week, but we had a blast anyway. Dustin knew just where to go for the best fishing! We floated and waded and caught browns, rainbows and the very special tiger trout! A week to remember! We are coming back in the fall and will be sure to book with Foscoe.

Got to fish the Watagua river with both my brothers today as part of our vacation. Lots of 5-10’ bows and browns to net. And some Lunkers were spotted. We had a blast and guides Nate and Kirby did great! Thank you!

Thinking of fly fishing with them? AVOID!!! I never write reviews but feel others need to know. I would give zero stars if possible. We had a guide trip planned for my birthday with the owner, Alex. We gave him 2 separate phone #s to give the guide in case anything came up. We arrived and no one ever showed up!! Hours later after finding a much better company, thankfully, as I felt my birthday was ruined, he called and falsely blamed the guide. As a business owner myself, I would have offered free merchandise or anything vs lies and "can't do anything about it" for wasting our time and nearly ruining my birthday. Throughout my stay in Boone I learned he has a horrible reputation throughout the town. Most other companies and other guides I spoke with will NOT work with him. Horrible, unprofessional, dishonest!

I unintentionally started a tradition with my three boys seven years ago. When my oldest turned 11, I happened to choose Foscoe for a guided fly fishing trip. I was pleased and two years later took my second son when he turned 11. The last of the three boys I took just this week. All three times I was very pleased. The excursions were even more memorable because we had the pleasure of having Jay as our guide all three times! Jay not only knew where to take us, but was a good, patient instructor. I recommend Foscoe and if you can have Jay as your guide, I doubt you will be disappointed.

This place is centrally located, has great staff, and an awesome collection of whatever gear you need. I've taken a float trip with these guys and it was definitely a must for any outdoorsman who comes to the area. You don't even need to be a pro to have fun. I am new to the sport and caught seven fish on my time out. I'll be doing it again at least once a year! Oh, and give Sebastian the dog a good pettin' for me.

We were there on June 13th and bought a Clearwater Orvis 9 foot five weight fly fishing rod set. Still upset over the $239.00 listed on the box, and being charged $376.00. I had to take a test on Indeed for a job, and one of the questions on it was on this very issue. So I’m adding them now. Still very hurt and hate we have to drive to Asheville to get fly fishing gear.

Stopped by to grab some things for my dad. The guy behind the counter did not acknowledge me, say hello, or anything. He didn't ask if I needed help at all. The store was great, very well stocked, and I enjoyed looking around. It would have been nice to see some southern hospitality from the employee.

Ehhh....stopped in the middle of the road and turned around to check it out. I was up in the mountains for my first time and wanted to pick up a map, get some direction on where to go, what to use, and wanted to buy some flies.Normally you walk into a place and "the help" is falling over themselves to pick it flies for you, will point out exactly where to go on a map and shows you their favorite flies.This kid was nice enough but didn't seem to care. I find this area pretty tough to determine exactly where you are even allowed to fish. It would be nice if the only fly shop in the area could be a bit more helpful.If nobody else makes a map, publish one yourself! Make a pile of best flies of the week if the kids at the front doesn't know anything. Do something.Sure had a lot of nice stuff even if they were out of the most popular flies. Disappointed and will be contacting Orvis.
