Enjoyed a wonderful lunch here on a beautiful Sunday in Blowing Rock. I was first impressed at how well our waitress knew the menu and gave recommendations on dishes.The blackened trout is excellent and the Mac and cheese is creamy and delicious. The chicken wings are crispy fantastic as well. The blonde brownie desert hits the spot too!They even brought out a custom kids plate 😉 Mac and cheese and French friesParking: If the town is crowded it can tough to find a spot!

Made it today on our mountain adventure to Blowing Rock. And heard lots about the food at this local spot.15 min wait without a reservation at 3 pm on a Friday for lunch. So suggest you go to their site and make a reservation days in advance.The manager suggested a few dishes, but we were not hungry enough to have full meals but ordered away!We started with amazing soups, just a cup each. One pumpkin curry, and one was a chicken dumpling. Oh, so good!then we followed up with the trout nachos.I wish there were more chips but so delicious. and we shared a plate of blackened trout and grits with a side of beets with goat cheese.And an order of smoked chicken wings.Everything was delicious, super clean, and great service. Kennedy was our server, and she made sure that we were always hydrated and checked in as we were sitting outside. Just a great friendly staff!

We came here in May of ‘23, definitely a better experience then. Today, on Dec 29, less desirable.Positives: food taste was good, service was pretty good as well. They forgot to bring out the hot water I asked for, but whatever.Negatives: the COLD! I understand they were closed for a little while and today was opening day. But clearly the heating wasn’t working. A few staff members turned the thermostat up, and then some manager type turned it down. It never got warm. Stayed around 61° just about the whole time. No heat was coming out of the vents. The food was practically instantly cold after they brought it out. Had to eat as fast as possible to try and enjoy it warm. Fail.Overall kinda a fail for The Speckled Trout. For the price you pay, you’d expect to at least eat with a basic level of comfort, as opposed to wrapping your jacket around your legs to stay warm and requesting a cup of hot water to warm your hands (and the cup never come…).

Located at the central hub of the Blowing Rock downtown tourist area, The Speckled Trout restaurant is a wonderful part of the downtown district. Because the majority of the stores in the downtown shopping center close early in the evening, having a nice place to stop and eat later in the evening was appreciated. They have a decent amount of parking. The food is good and the vegetable sides are very unique. On the pricey side of an evening meal, the food was high quality. All included I think my husband and I spent somewhere around $95 for the trout entre with two sides and a salad. The soup that I added to my meal was probably one of the best soups I’ve ever had!

HIGHLY recommend. This place was amazing! It was an hour and half wait, but we’ll worth it. We ended up eating at the bar, which was perfect, met some really cool people. Staff was great! This was the best meal and drinks we had on our vacation. We tried smoke trout dip, speckled trout, and the Huntsman meatball- chefs kiss to that AMAZING dish. Cocktail menu was fun too. I had the Hippies and Cowboys. This place is a MUST.

I’ve been several times and it’s always fantastic! The last time we ate outside because we had our dog with us. It was just perfect. We had a veggie plate, almond crusted trout and a watermelon salad which was a work of art and tasted fabulous!! Oh!! And the peach marmalade cake - moist, excepting frosting and a huge serving! The three of us couldn’t finish it!

This was our first time to the Speckled Trout restaurant in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. We had a young man for our waiter he was wonderful.We both got the almond flour and cornmeal crusted Trout.I got the summer season vegetables, which were fantastic. I even asked for the recipe. My friend got theCheese grits which were okay just not much Guda cheese Taste.So she also ordered a side of the summer season vegetables which we both loved. They were very busy.We did make a reservation for lunch I would highly suggest doing that.I will be going back to this restaurant it was wonderful.

Our entrees and sides were all great. There were 3 of us and we each got the trout 3 different ways and were all happy with how each one turned out. The appetizers we got, the biscuits and the deviled eggs, were underwhelming in terms of flavor and overpriced I felt.Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu. Our child got the Mac n cheese and seemed happy with it. He also did eat a little of the biscuit appetizer.

When I say this is one of the best meals we've had, I am not exaggerating. Everything was cooked to perfection! Service was also amazing! They had a "Suprise Me" item on the drink menu where you ask the bartender to make you a drink based on what you prefer in a drink and our turned out great! We also had the white bean soup (not pictured) and it was amazing! I am definitely recommending anyone who visits Blowing Rock to dine here!

We were in town for my birthday, which was also winter fest weekend. It was super busy (we didn’t know what winter fest was but apparently it’s a big deal) and after hiking around Boone all day we popped in for dinner. We were told the wait was over 2 hours, but the bar was open seating - and there were two seats together for me and my husband available!They have an extensive draft menu with knowledgeable friendly staff. We each ordered soup as an appetizer (the chicken and dumplings, it was amazing!!) and I ordered trout- my husband ordered the steak. The food was cooked perfectly and tasted so great!!! It also came out quick and despite sitting at the bar; we had great service thanks to the crew working behind the bar that evening.We will definitely be back!!

I tried to eat here in December when we were in town and it was too busy. Thankfully we came at a good time of day when we came this time (July) and were seated at the bar.I got to he bbq mac and cheese and 👊🏻🙌🏻👌🏻5/5 would 100% recommend. I loved all the flavors… the bbq was nice and smoky, pasta shape was cavatappi (need I say more??), and the chow chow and pickled zucchini were amazing. I’d buy those pickled zucchini by the gallon if I could. Still thinking about those zucchini two days later.My mom got the almond crusted trout with grits and Mac and cheese. She liked the trout a lot… sides were good, not great. 4/5Our server was wonderful and attentive. Everyone seemed to like their job and the overall vibe was laid back. Would totally go back.

Anyone passing through Blowing Rock, MUST try this restaurant. You will not be disappointed! One of the best I've eaten at in a long time. 1.5 hours from where I live and it's worth the trip for a lunch date. Short wait time. Clean facilities and great friendly staff. The food presentation is amazing and the quality FANTASTIC

The food was so fresh & delicious! I wish we ate there sooner! We went for a friend's birthday & they gave her a free dessert! She chose the three layer chocolate cake & wow it was delicious!! This was the first time I ate Trout & it was so good. I will definitely be back to this restaurant!Parking: The one draw back to The Speckled Trout is that there is hardly no parking. Maybe 10 spots at most. There is town parking on the other side of the road across from the Last Straw you can park there & walk across the road.

Best trout I’ve ever had. Amazing attentive and friendly service. We got seated fast, got serviced fast, food was out fast. Everything was delicious, the place is super clean and the atmosphere is pleasant with a modern feel. We love it and will definitely be coming back.Kid-friendliness: Loved the coloring pages, it kept the kids busy and entertained for a long time

Speckled Trout is simply awesome if you like local independent restaurants, with scratch kitchen food and a great selection of beers. I normally get the trout (which is awesome) but tonight I had the steak — also wonderful. The beer selection is top notch. Highly recommended!!

I love, love , love Speckled Trout! Expect a wait, but be patient, it is worth it. The staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful, and informative. You can order a craft cocktail while you wait. I haven’t found one I don’t like, but my favorite so far is the Bloody Mary and margarita. Everything was incredible but the Wagyu burger was over the top, So flavorful and juicy. The food comes out fresh, hot, beautifully plated, and in a timely manner. Save room for dessert! I was blown away by the strawberry red velvet cake.

Returned to another perfectly cooked lunch - the blackened mahi mahi tacos should be a regular menu item. The farro with root veg is an excellent winter side with layers of flavor. The beets with goat cheese & pumpkin seeds are tasty and have nice textural differences but may be well-served to have the ingredients layered more - perhaps in another serving vessel. Alex did an outstanding job serving us. We highly recommend Speckled Trout and will be back soon!
