We are visiting Bald Head Island in the “off season”- early March. Unfortunately, this appears to be the only grocery store on the island which is concerning because the quality of the goods here is not great. Moldy shredded cheddar hanging in the prepackaged cheese section, moldy soft butternut squash (a few of them) in the fresh produce department, and chicken breast that What is three days beyond the Best Buy date. luckily for us, as I was putting it into the basket I realized there was a rancid smell coming from it. Well I understand it’s hard to get goods in the off-season shipped over to an island, it seems like poor business to have moldy and spoiled food out for sale. It doesn’t even seem like they ever have any managers or anybody checking food and expiration dates . It’s incredibly worrisome that it’s the only market on the island. Just a heads up for anybody visiting in the off-season to check expiration dates and thoroughly inspect any of the food to make sure it’s not moldy or off. I do hope the local restaurants aren’t using their food products for their menus. I hardly ever leave poor reviews, but it’s incredibly disappointing for the price you pay to stay on the island, even in the off-season, to be severely limited with grocery items and then have to worry about expiration dates and rancid food.

It is very convenient and the staff is friendly. When we vacation on BHI, I am certain members of our group are there at least once a day! There is a variety of choices (they even carry "Stadium Mustard" - a staple in many NE Ohio homes!). Sure, prices are a few dollars more than you would be paying at mainland stores, but really that shouldn't be too much of a shocker; if you have forgotten something in the supplies you brought, you're going to be happy the market is there, regardless.

Great local store. Has all the groceries you would ever need, although a bit pricey.Cafe inside is great. We got breakfast for our whole crew to bring back to our house. The staff and food was fantastic. Great staple of the island.

This place is run down and has nothing. What produce, meat and fish that they do have is dismal.not selections d bad quality. What a shame. The only grocery on the island. They could upgrade and charge so much more and make a killing. What a disappointment. Thankfully there are people now providing personal shopping off island who will deliver directly to homes. And it turns out to be less expensive even with added fees.

If you are staying on Bald Head and you need provisions, this is it. But it's got an amazing selection considering how small it is. Some very fancy offerings along with comfort food classics. Huge wine selection.

This is the cutest little market! Their prices as you would expect, being on an island, are high but overall not too bad. They have a nice selection of wines and produce. They also have a cute little souvenir shop where you can buy everything Bald Head. The two fast food eateries adjacent are excellent and well priced.

Shopped here while on vacation. Naturally the prices are higher than those on the main land.We ate lunch here too. The quality of the food in the little cafe was sub-par at best. My burger wasn't even warm and the cheese didn't even melt. The staff had an "over it" attitude.We bought one of the take and heat pizzas and I emailed to ask about ingredients in the pepperoni (my husband has an allergy) and received no response. The ingredients weren't listed on the pizza which makes it a dangerous game for someone with allergies.They're the only grocery store on the island so they've pretty much "gotcha" on that. I know good and well given the prices and location, they could do much better. Very disappointing.

The grocery store part gets 5 stars. The restaurant part should be avoided at all costs unless you enjoy paying top dollar for low quality food. I work on the island and frequently stop in and every time I eat there it's a disappointment. Every. Single. Time. The buns are always stale, the chips are chewy from sitting under the lamp for so long, and the customer service is abysmal. If your order isn't prepared the way you ordered it you're treated like it's your fault and it's an inconvenience for them to correct it. You're better off going outside to city wok or Mike's bites across the island(only open durning summer). Seriously some of the worst quality and worst service I've ever experienced.

They have everything you would need if you didn't pack a single grocery. Not the most helpful staff. They aren't much more expensive than a whole foods. Local beers, ice cream, good pizza and plenty of fresh produce.

Wide selection, especially given that they have to ship everything over. Pretty much everything you need, they have. We were particularly happy with the specialty goods, including cheeses and beer varieties. Prices aren't THAT much higher than the mainland.The in-store pizza place, called Copper's, should be good but isn't. Maybe we went there on a bad day. Wood-fired pizza should be thin and crispy; what we got was thick and chewy with too much cheese.

This store is wonderful. We have been coming here for many years and watched the island And the store grow. Our family looks forward to and enjoys breakfast and lunch at the market. You can’t beat the pick 3! And they always have what we need. Claude is always around to say hello and is so pleasant.

The market was okay. It met our basic needs. My sister and I are dairy-free, and prefer to eat organic, and there was little there to accommodate things like that. We brought kitchen essentials across the ferry in a 27gal tub and we'd probably do two next time-- that was way easier than we expected. And then got perishables and other basics at the market so it worked well. Sure, some things are noticeably more expensive, but you're on an island so it makes sense. Eating out options are really limited so we cooked more than we expected to. It was nice to have the market as a place to bike or cart up to to grab a few things when we needed it.

Not a large place but seem to have some of everything. Butcher shop is amazing. All of the food you buy there for cooking in your kitchen always is high quality. Plus there is also a grill and the food they serve you is excellent and in large quantity, as well as low priced. Recommend highly!!

This grocery store is fantastic - it fits the island like a glove. They have what you need and a comfortable little cafe on site that serves breakfast and lunch. In the summer on the side porch they sell gourmet ice cream. They keep the temperature nice and cool in the summertime and the staff is very nice. The owner is first class - he and his wife live on the island. I am very thankful that there is a Maritime Market.

Food at the cafe is OK. The staff were extremely rude both at the cafe and in the market every time we came. As fellow reviewers have stated, customer service jobs tend to work better if your attitude is even in the neutral zone rather than a clear disposition of "I don't care to be here." The volunteer stockers however seem to be much more friendly.

Bald Head Island is very small; the only way to get here is via ferry; there's only one grocery store on the island. Add those factors together, and they equal limited selection at exorbitant prices. But I will say, however, the staff members are lovely and the fresh salmon fantastic! Fish and meat counters close early, and fresh vegetables sell out quickly, ie, go in the morning. Ditto 2 years later with the additional information: don't buy fresh vegetables on Sun. Lettuce was quite wilted.

For the only game in town they are not too expensive and have a good selection. The in-house cafe is a good deal with good food. The wine selection is pretty good. And if you want souvenirs the clothing is a great price. Nice embroidered wind breaker was 23.

This is a great little market. They have a great selection of the basics mixed in with some local favorites. They also have a nice beer and wine selection. Every time we go to BHI we love spending some time in the market. Just be prepared to pay a little more... it’s not cheap.

We’ve been coming here for 30+ years and are so thrilled to have an option for custom scratch made cakes on the island. Esther Wong at the market made a beautiful and delicious “strawberry shortcake” 8 inch 4-layer cake for a family birthday celebration. What a great addition to the market!

Very nice staff. And very well stocked grocery store they have everything you need, so that you dont have to go back to the main land to get what you need. However you are going to pay more for shopping here just because it is on a island. For example a normal mountain dew and main land is 1.95 on the island it is 2.65.

While in Bald Head Island, this is your local market. Here, you will be able to find all your pantry basics, and some tasty treats.Expect higher prices, after all this is an island 🏝 🙂
