It's not a clean place to stay at. The room I was in had cockroaches on the bathroom wall and on the floor under the bed. After seeing the cockroaches on the wall, I loaded my stuff up and drove 6 hours home. Needless to say, Avon motel charged me for 4 nights and didn't offer me a discount for the 2 nights I didn't stay. So, if you don't mind seeing and sleeping with cockroaches this is probably a good place for you. I will never stay at this location ever again.Noteworthy details: I would not recommend this motel.

Place to lay your head if you plan to spend most of your time outside. Obvious lack of amenities. Don't stay here if you are expecting the Four Seasons, this isn't it. What it is is a retro vibe beach motel. Think 1970's road trip in the station wagon with 4 kids!. You're going to save money. Rooms are clean. Price is right. Service good. Location good. Short walk to beach, it is not ON the beach. Got a grill for cooking. Rusty chairs on the breezeway add to the ambiance. I liked staying here even though the wife appreciates the finer things! Towels hanging from the railings, fishing poles leaning against the walls outside, AC units humming away. Felt like traveling with the circus. Again, I enjoyed it.

Great little motel. Smaller room as to be expected, had a little fridge, coffee make and microwave. Very clean, clean smell. Had a broom which helped to manage sand. Pet friendly. Next to a ton of great restaurants, bakery, coffee shops, shopping. Never used the car after we arrived. Beach is at end of road. Peaceful and beautiful beach with garbage cans.Would suggest clothes line to dry wet items.We would come back for another long weekend.

For what it is, it's as expected: a budget motel. The location is PHENOMENAL. Was a bit dismayed that they have a price sign out front for 99/night and I paid 129/night online. Never saw an option for anything else. Door jamb had a broken seal. Water pressure was met. Beds were comfy and room seemed clean. Didn't love that the sink was outside the bathroom, but that's me being picky. Overall, would stay here again.

One lady, a little younger than the rest was very sweet! She tried her best to help us after we were told at the property that we had to be 21 after booking 2 months prior. One older lady was very rude, almost as if she was disgusted by us and resented that we even wanted to be there. I understand that we have to be 21 but you could have at least tried to help us knowing that we were stuck. I hope that in the future you can be more professional.

There were roaches. The nest was outside, probably under the building, because they were huge. I had to buy roach spray and roach traps. I told the lady at the office, but she told me there was not a lot she could do. She told me they have the building sprayed from time to time, but having 3x 1.5 inch roaches in your 200$/night room is not nice!

Our room was very nice. It was a 2 bedroom studio apartment. It was well stocked with necessities for cooking and cleaning. It was on the beach. The access to the beach was the best. It was a long walk to reach it. Other than that, overall it was very nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again. Rates were very reasonable compared to other places I checked on. I had a very enjoyable time.

This place was absolutely disgusting. We left and our ankles are covered in fleas. Our dogs (who traveled with us) are completely infested after our stay here. The mattresses were absolutely disgusting. Covered in stains and smelled horrendous. We only stayed here because it was a last minute trip. We had to sleep on top of blankets they provided due to being completely grossed out. If I could give this place negative stars I absolutely would.

Cons: It looked clean upon entering, but walking around barefoot revealed dirty floors, the shower curtain and shelves were not cleaned completely, the linens were stained, pull-out bed was badly stained and we were not provided sheets for it, and the mattresses were not very comfortable. There were lots of cockroaches on the porch area, although we did not see any inside. My family was not pleased with the woman working inside the office; she acted as though we were an inconvenience to her when simply trying to check in. We booked through a travel site, so were also mislead about the accommodations inside the room. I would be sure to call the property to receive accurate information on the rooms.Pros: The AC worked well, the location was good with close beach access (walking distance), and the room was pretty spacious.

I booked last minute and it was 100 dollars cheaper a night vs other motels. I was not expecting it to be as nice as it was. They are pet friendly and it was absolutely a wonderful experience. Everyone was exceptionally nice. I asked why they were so much cheaper and they responded, the owner refused to gouge the prices because of corona. He believes in doing the right thing. The rooms were clean and we saw no bugs like other reviews. It’s like coming to a home away from home. I will make more trips to the outer banks just because of the hospitality of Avon Motel. Besides, the beach is right behind the motel. The entire reason we came to begin with. The best mini vacation I’ve ever had. Thanks to you guys. You really make a difference.

Stayed for three nights Fourth of July weekend. In room 3. It has a nice location, great beach, and decent price. Walk to the beach is less than five minutes. The room seem decently clean and smelled good beside underneath the bed. Not very loud or crazy music blasting like other reviews.On the last night I saw two big cockroaches outside of our room. Multiple flies and I woke up itching a lot. I’m thinking it was most likely from mosquitoes from the beach but unsure. Booked a queen room- The door had a big gap underneath it. I heard some of the rooms were newly renovated, however it looked like our room hasn’t been touched since the 70s ( beside the flooring in the bedroom.) The bathroom was gross with soft floors and the door wouldn’t shut all the way. The actual bed itself was very springy and seem to push my significant other and I towards the middle.

Price was good, location on the beach was great. Even upon first glance, the room seemed clean and pleasant. Unfortunately, during our first night, we discovered we weren't alone in our room, and it turned out to literally be a roach motel. In all, we had to send 5 cockroaches to the afterlife, and before we checked out, had to individually inspect every article of clothing and our bags before loading up the car to insure we didn't bring any freeloaders back home. They're relatively inexpensive, but as they say, you pay for what you get.

I was a little worried with the reviews I read. However I was pleasantly surprised! The room was updated. The air conditioner was set on a cooler temperature before we arrived. There were 2 beds, one was in its own room. Mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and toaster. 3 if the best things were a broom and dust, out door showers, and laundromat! The beach access was a few steps down the drive. For the money you could not beat this place. My family and I will definitely be going back!

I am not one to write bad reviews. I am in no way picky about my room. As I’m only in it to sleep and shower. So I don’t expect much at all.Upon our arrival we found a note with our key attached to the office door. Which we expected, as We arrived towards the end of a hurricane.Upon entering the room the smell of musty mold instantly burned my nose and eyes.We unloaded our belongings anyway and thought, it’s the beach of course there will be a musty smell.We left our room for dinner and returned several hours later.When we turned in for the night it was a bit hot and stuffy so I reached to turn the AC up.Wow!!The moldy smell got really bad. So I grabbed my phone for a flashlight to get a better look at the AC unit.To my disgust I saw BLACK MOLD in the vents.It looked like it had not been cleaned all season.There was no one in the office to request a new room or complain. Therefore We had no choice but to stay in the mold infested small room.I can say the bed was comfortable. The room was clean despite the mold smell.I still had one of the worst nights sleep in a hotel room.My eyes burnt and my throat hurt for days. I had a massive headache. My eyes were swollen for the remainder of my vacation.The next day when the staff arrived.I told them my issue. Showed her pictures of My ac unit. She apologized and said she’d have to contact the manager for a refund. Claiming they just had them cleaned. Sorry Avon Motel you got ripped off by the cleaning crew. As mine was not clean at all.I was issued a refund.When she entered myPayment and then refund she entered the wrong amount.She charged me 10 times what the cost was. Ugh.. more frustration. She said she’d correct it. I signed the papers and left. I waited two days for the refund. Called the hotel and never received a return call so I had no choice but to call my bank to get my money. I was on vacation with NO money due to her error. Luckily my bank was able to credit me the refund in a dispute with the hotel.I’m sad the hotel was in such poor shape.It’s location was perfect walking distance to the pier and many shops in town. The staff was friendly. The price was reasonable.They just need a whole new cleaning crew.I am sad to say I won’t ever stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone. Ever!Hope you get this issue fixed Avon Motel.I’ve been home a few days and I’m still sick from the mold ..I only spent a max of 12 hours on the moldy room.

I was a bit concerned seeing a lot of mixed reviews for recent visits by others but, our place was clean with no issues at all. I noticed that recent updates with painting wasn't professional but that doesn't bother me because it's not home. I did not see any cockroaches but, we did find dead flies ..lolWe were on the second floor in a cottage though so, that could have been a plus. The only real issue we had was with the people downstairs which seemed like two families together on vacation as they were so noisy we thought it was the cottage next to us. Our last morning I opened the door to a rush of pot smell. I don't care who does it but, respect of the people around you is important. The people below us didn't even respect the property as they filled one trash can and let it fall out and overflow with an empty one still available. Overall I would stay here again.

They were very nice & flexible on our reservations. We had to rearrange our trip because of a hurricane, & they were super about getting us different dates.

Great little spot for a reasonable price. I booked last minute too. Close to the beach, the bar, the food, and the gift shops. I stayed in room 20, which is pretty nice sized. Room to sleep six people and a kitchenette with double sinks and there's an oven, toaster, microwave, and blender. The little porch is seperate from the others so that was nice too.If I had one ask it would be for curtains..Blinds are great but I like to close the curtains at night.

I love this place, stay here every year, however ,while quiet some of the older rooms have horrible beds. The air conditioning smack beside the bed wasn't pleasant, not to mention the light that shined from the outside right into your window all night. Left my vacation very sleepy. Just afew new beds and perhaps darker blinds and its fixed. It always clean and the staff is great. First not so great experience in 17 years and it won't stop me from coming back. The beach is right behind the motel which is a perk!

Kristen, the desk clerk was friendly, and helpful in getting us checked into the motel, and recommended nice places to eat. We were able to view the room prior, and very happy to see no bugs, very clean, and everything worked, and provided alot of towels. We stayed for 2 nights, which was very reasonable price, and it was not a long walk to the beach. We will return. Thank you for making my first visit a great one. We weren't looking for the Ritz, just a nice, safe place to sleep, shower, and watch a little TV. You're there to explore, and connect with your family on the beach, and fun events around you. So breathe in the beach air, and thank God you can have the time while you can.

I spent one night here back in early May and enjoyed it just fine. The room and bathroom were clean and the shower had great water pressure. My only gripe is that the AC (which is a window unit) was not blowing cold air and the ceiling fan, even at its highest speed, barely helped, resulting in the room temp being higher than the temp outside. I left a message with the front desk in the early evening to see if there was a way to resolve the problem but nobody got in touch with me. The couple staying next door to me was also having the same issue. I took advantage of the cooler night air and used the Gideon Bible to prop the window open. This is a budget motel and I knew that walking in so take my complaint with a grain of salt but I don't think that having a properly functioning AC unit is too much to ask. Working AC= five stars.
