Everything ya need for camping, biking, frisbee golf, kayaking, you name it all at new or second hand prices. Staff is very knowledgeable and there’s even a small coffee / gelato shop in the back for some pick me up if ya need it. Right by the riverside greenway it’s a good stop if ya need something. I have been shopping and consigning at Second Gear since they were located next to Harvest Records. Staff has always been friendly and efficient. Like any second hand store, what you find will vary from day to day. I can also say, they are selective (in a good way) about what they will take for consignment.

Such a great shop. We were looking for a baby hiking carrier and DMed them on Instagram to see if they had any. Within a few minutes, they sent us a link to what they had in stock. We popped over, tried one out and bought it for such an amazing price! They had so many other nice things in there too. Definitely recommend checking them out! Thanks for the amazing service!

Huge second hand store for outdoor gear. Didn't feel like second hand at all. Great customer service. Various levels of discount on like new products. Plenty of dressing rooms available. Gelato place also inside in case you're interested in a sweet treat.

I have repeatedly had some of the rudest and most condescending experiences w retail staff at second gear that I have ever had in any retail setting. FTR, I have shopped at second gear many times at their various locations over the last decade or so, and I've gotten decent products at occasionally really good values, but the reason I have gone to second gear is because I cannot afford to buy high-end gear at full sticker price. Almost every single time I have asked an associate for help finding a lower-priced item to fit my budget, regardless of whether a lower-priced option is available in stock, staff has been dismissive and condescending and aggressive in trying to upsell me to something higher-end. I get that cheaply made or well-used gear is obviously not going to last as long or work as well as something newer and more expensive. Just because I can't afford top-dollar does not mean I am not experienced and knowledgable about my outdoor interests. If you can afford to spend top dollar, just save yourself the rude service and go to REI instead. If you can't afford it, try Sierra online or maybe just craigslist and save yourself the insulting attitude of elitist snobby gear gurus.

Second Gear is my go to shop for everything outdoor. They always have a great selection of consigned clothing, gear, and equipment. They also keep a good rotation of new items in too. Second Gear is incredibly fair with taking consignment which makes it such a good option for selling your old gear or clothing. They have monthly nonprofit partners too! I love that they recently added their online shop with makes it even easier to find what I'm looking for. Be sure to sign up for their email list for special coupons to and know when all the best sales are! I will always shop Second Gear first for myself and for gifts! Thanks for being here guys!

We have two young sons, (1 1/2 and 2 months old) and were looking for child carriers for hiking. We almost bought a cheep Amazon carrier, but my wife heard of this place so we went to take a look. We were thrilled to find an excellent quality used Kelty that was $10 cheaper than the Amazon product! We even found another smaller Kelty for our 2 month old to grow into.The staff was friendly and helpful enough. Will definitely look here if we ever need anything for more adventures!

Ryan and Mitch are great guys at the Asheville 2nd Gear store. They went above and beyond to help me with a consignment issue. This is a great store to shop in for anybody. It's clean and well organized. Parking is good-front and back of the store. The location is very easy to find.

The customer service here is the bomb!! Everyone I talked to over the phone was super friendly and helpful. I was looking for replacement SUP fins that were sold out everywhere in the country except here. They went above and beyond to get the fins shipped to me and they arrived a quick 4 days later in AZ!!! Thanks guys :) you rock!!

I haven't visited the physical store, but I have bought several backpacks and other items online. It was an amazing surprise, the items were in perfect shape, exactly as described, the prices are great and shipping is both fast and quick. I am going to check this store before any other whenever I need something in the future in the future.

Been there twice in a month now and purchased items. Both times i felt the staff (which are overwhelming in numbers) are looking over me constantly like I’m going to steal something. Very uncomfortable vibe. Good stock though.

Fantastic place to score deals on well-used-but-life-left, gently used, and even a lot of new gear!!! Definitely NOT a pawn shop or a PlayItAgainSports... SecondGear is more for the outdoor enthusiast into hiking, kayaking, biking, snowstorms, etc.

I was visiting Asheville and visited this store with a full packing list for the Camino de Santiago, which I will leave for in about a month. I found incredible gear and the staff were so helpful. Jake took a lot of time to help me go through my list and provided me excellent recommendations. He was so patient and kind! I couldn't recommend Second Gear more!!

I’ve had some outstanding help from staff members here. They are happy to help you and if something isn’t working, they will replace it. I had some hiking poles that stopped adjusting properly and a staff member replaced them for me. Glad this shop exists in Asheville! Also, great outdoor used shoe selection.

I went to Second Gear to begin my search for hiking equipment. I had no intention of buying anything today, I just wanted to look around. Because of the knowledge and great customer service from Jack, I now have almost everything I need to spend a week on the AT. He answered all my questions and gave me some great advice based off of his camping experience. I spent a lot of time hiking with a pack during my 22 years in the Marine Corps, but it was really nice to get some solid recommendations from Jack today. Thanks!!!

This is such a great place! I went hunting for rafting gear for my boyfriend and had no clue what to get and Colt showed me all the best things and was just incredibly helpful and patient with me not knowing anything about rafting loved my experience can’t wait to come back! Found a ten dollar rafting paddle! Like what a great price!!

I love the concept of this store, but they don’t really pull it off. I purchased a sleeping bag liner and used water 1 liter water bladder from second gear last week and they are both faulty. The sleeping bag liner had a broken zipper, and the bladder a leak. Sure, they’re used, but I’d hope that a consignment store would check for defects before selling. And sure; I could have checked more thoroughly, but sometimes it’s hard to find defects until you put them to use (such as the leak in the bladder lining!) After returning home, I looked these products up online and realized I could purchase them new, full price, for cheaper than I paid at second gear. Whaaat? Wish I’d had my phone to look up the equipment and compare prices! Really disappointing to see the price gouging, as I’d hope for better deals as a second hand shop. Might just be a slip that I got two faulty pieces of equipment, but I think the prices aren’t truly a discount like you might expect from a second hand store. ReGear (in Boone) has much better prices with the same concept, though a drive for many in Asheville. Regardless, I won’t be returning: I’ll look online for used pieces.

My family loves Second Gear. We visit every single time we got to Asheville or the surrounding area, which is quite a lot! They have an wide selection of products, both new and used, all affordably priced. They are dog friendly and carry many different types of dog products as well. You can also consign gear there, which is a good way to give a new life to your old outdoor supplies.
